TRIGGER WARNING: A LOT MENTIONING OF BLOOD
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β IT WAS DARK on the streets of Mystic falls and only the music of the bonfire in the distance was disturbing the silence of the peaceful woods.
Violet Montess was walking through the dark, her phone pressed to her ear while she argued with the first boyfriend she ever had, this had been before Elena's incident with her parents.
Violet was frustrated because he had already everything planned out up until college and he couldn't understand why she didn't want to plan for the future.
"Alex, I don't want to- where are you anyway -?", Violet exclaimed while she walked down the empty street.
The boy gave her only short responses and the girl exhaled deeply, "I'm hanging up now."
Violet felt the wind picking up and a felt a shiver was running down her spine. The girl turned around to get back to the bonfire but when she turned, she let out a small scream as she came face to face with a stranger.
Violet quickly got ahold of herself again and started panting while she tried to regain her breath.
"I'm so sorry", the man immediately apologized to her. Violet's eyes immediately scanned him over. He had black hair and wore a dark leather jacket, a white shirt and blue jeans. He had piercing ice blue eyes, a sharp jaw line, a devilish smirk and absolutely perfect teeth.
"I didn't mean to scare you", he flashed her a small smile before he introduced himself, "I'm Damon-"
"I'm Violet-", the girl answered him hesitatly. "Not to be rude or anything, Damon- but it's kind of creepy that you're out here in the middle of nowhere."
The man still smiled while he answered her, his voice smooth, "You're one to talk. You're out here all by yourself."
"It's Mystic Falls. Nothing bad ever happens here", Violet told him honestly and squeezed her eyes shut because she knew that shd had jinxed it now.
There was silence between them and Violet didn't want that to last until when mother came to pick her up, so she spoke, "Go into a fight with my boyfriend."
Damon gave her a curious look, "About what? May I ask?". Violet shrugged while she looked at him, "Life. The future- he's got it all mapped out."
"And you don't want it?", the stranger questioned her with a frown on his face. Violet sighed slightly, "I don't know what I want."
"Well, that's not true- you want what everybody wants-", Damon stated while he met her eyes.
A smile made it's way onto Violet's face and he'd eyebrows were raised, "What?- mysterious stranger who has all the answers."
Damon chuckled before he held his hands up, "Well, let's just say I've been around a long time. I've learned a few things."
"So Damon, tell me. What is it that I want?", Violet smirked while she questioned him and Damon took a couple steps towards her. "You want a love that consumes you. You want passion and adventure and even a little danger."
Violet had to look up to meet his eyes and she still smirked at him while she questioned, "So what do you want?"
Suddenly there was a honk in the distance and Violet spun around, spotting the car of her mother that approached them. "That's my mom."
When the dark haired girl spun back around towards Damon, he looked down into her yes, his face very close to hers.
"I want you to get everything you're looking for. But right now, I want you to forget that this happened. Can't have people knowing I'm in town yet-", He smiled down at her while Violet stared into his blue eyes.
"Goodnight, Violet."
When Violet opened her eyes she realized that she was sitting at the edge of her bed, her hairbrush in her hand.
This was happening a lot since her transition. She was having flashbacks. And this one had her completely shocked. She wasn't aware that Damon and her had meg before, because he had compelled her to forget.
The dark haired girl finished brushing her hair before Elena called her and told her to meet them outside.
Violet climbed into Ethan's car and they then drove over to the Salvatore mansion, where Stefan was waiting for them.
When no one was standing outside, Elena, Ethan and Violet entered the mansion. Everything was quiet and peaceful until they suddenly heard the loud voices of Stefan and Damon coming from Stefan's room upstairs.
The three exchanged curious looks while they made their way upstairs and when they entered Stefan's room, Elena immediately questioned them, "What's going on?"
Her eyebrows were raised while they watched the two brothers interact with each other.
"Just having a little disagreement about the process", Stefan told them while he continued to stare at Damon.
"You're still not on board with the animal plan", Violet stated while Damon shook his head. "Nope- I say top off the proverbial Band-aid and let it bleed. You're a vampire, Violet. Be a vampire."
Violet looked at Damon with frustration in her eyes while Stefan pushed past her and took Elena's hand in his. "Ready to go?"
The dark haired girl had just turned towards the door when Damon spoke up once more, making them all turn around to him.
His eyes were fixed on Violet while he spoke, "Vampires eat people - that's part of the natural food pyramid. Trust me, you're gonna be miserable."
The dark haired girl grabbed her bag from the chair and gave Damon one last disapproving look before she followed Ethan out the door.
It didn't take them long to get to their destination that was located a little further into the woods and they immediately spread out their stuff.
"It's like the starting line of a race, right? So you just push off with every ounce of strength you have", Stefan explained fo them while they stood nect to each other.
"Yeah, we were both cheerleader. We sucked at track!", Elena chuckled to herself while she positioned her body infront of Stefan's.
"Just concentrate- you can do it!", Ethan told them while he came to a stand behind Violet.
The girl felt his body heat behind her while she positioned herself. His hands suddenly found their way onto her hip and she immediately felt her skin tingling.
She quickly turned and started whispering in his ear, "I can't, Ethan. All I can think about is youe hands on my body."
The boy immediately pulled his hands away from her. "Oh okay."
"No- I didn't say take them off", Violet smiled before she leaned with her back against his chest.
The two watched how Elena suddenly vamp speeded to one of the larger trees in the distance.
They immediately started cheering for her and when the brunette came to a stand infront of them Violet quickly hugged her. "You did it!"
Violet had just pulled back from the brunette when she suddenly felt very sick to her stomach. The dark haired girl immediately placed her hands over her stomach before she vamp speeded over to the next tree and started vomiting up blood.
After a moment she felt how Elena was holding her hair back and a hand that was patting her back softly while she spat out all the blood that was left in her mouth.
As soon as her mouth was empty, the girl turned back around to her friends, the fear visible in her eyes while the blood was dripping down her chin. "What's happening to me-?"
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β VIOLET WAS SCARED of the situation she was currently in, but the problem that Damon possibly blew up the town council was a bigger one right now.
The girl approached the bar of the Mystic Grill, when she saw Damon sitting at one of his usual seats, a bourbon in his hands.
"Did you do it?", was the first thing Violet questioned Damon when she came to a stand next to the man.
Damon immediately pointed at the seat next to him, the drink still in his hand, "That seat is taken."
Violet immediately frowned at him, "But there's no one here."
"I'm gonna pretend there's someone because the alternative is just too damn depressing", Damon stated while he gave her a pointed look.
Violet gave him an annoyed look before she walked around him and sat down on the other chair. Her eyes immediately finding his again, "Did you set off the explosion that killed the town council?"
"Am I wearing my 'I blew the council up' T-shirt? Why does everybody keep asking me that?", Damon questioned her sarcastically, a frown on his face.
Violet raised an eyebrow at him,"Did you?"
"No!-", Damon exclaimed before he raised his glass at her. "Anything else?"
Violet hesitated for a small moment, but she was really desperate for help. "Yes, actually. Something is wrong." Damon didn't look at her while he squeezed his eyes shut.
"I can't keep any of the animal blood down", Violet stated while she searched for his eyes that suddenly met hers. "Well, there's a shock."
Violet sighed in annoyance while she shot him a glare. "I think I need your help."
"Of course you do." Damon stated a little bit arrogant while he moved his hand around. "Pick your meal- You got Asian fusion- Mexican, or what about some good old American comfort food?"
Violet felt herself being grossed out just by the way he was talking about all this people, like they were a buffet.
"No- I can't- No human blood", she immediately shook her head and was taken back when she saw Damons annoyed look. "I have to at least try to get through this without hurting anyone."
Damon suddenly down his drink before he sighed, "Fine- Come on."
He then stood up and grabbed her by her arm, dragging her after him without saying anything else.
They entered the bathroom and Violets eyes grew big while she watched him how he locked the door behind them, "What are you doing?"
Damon then quickly bit into the palm of his hand, "Giving you what you need." He then held his hand infront of her face, "Drink."
"What?", Violet questioned him, a frown on her face.
Damon sighed once more, "You're a new vampire, Violet. You need warm blood from the vein. Maybe this will do the trick. Or not, but just don't tell Ethan."
Violet felt her while body aching for the blood that he was holding right infront of her face. It was like a magnet that was drawing her in, "Why not?"
"Blood sharing is kind of personal", Damon stated before he nodded towards his hand to encourage her.
But Violet was still hesitating, "What do you mean it's personal?" Damon gave her a pointed look, "Just drink."
Violet hesitated for one more moment but after a second the hunger she was feeling over took her whole body and she quickly grabbed Damon's hand.
Sinking her teeth into the palm of his hand she felt herself falling into his body. The feeling was kind of a rush, it felt so good, she didn't want to stop.
The two stumbled backwards and Damon's back hit the wooden bathroom stall behind them his hand on her head.
Violet could feel the warmth of his body against hers while she was still drinking blood from his veins. His left hand stroking through her hair and small groans escaping his lips.
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β VIOLET STILL FELT like death when she was walking through the church where the memorial for the council members was happening.
The girl felt like she was running on low energy. Her eyelids were heavy, her stomach was still growling and she felt like shit.
"Violet?", a voice suddenly questioned her from the side and the dark haired girl looked into the direction it came from.
Her eyes fell into a girl with black hair and blue eyes and she immediately recognized her, "April Young."
A small smile spreading over her face before she suddenly remembered that her father had also died in that explosion.
The girl immediately stepped over to April and pulled her into a tight hug, "I'm so sorry for your loss."
April's voice was quiet, "Thank you." The two pulled back from each other before the girl spoke once more, "They want me to speak. But I don't know what to say."
Violet sat down besides her on the bench, "Well, you can say whatever you like. Maybe talk about your love from each other."
April slowly nodded her head before Violet placed a reassuring hand on her arm.
Violet felt a shiver running through her body when she felt April's heartbeat against her skin. She the only thing she could think about was the blood that was rushing through April and Violet immediately yanked her hand back.
April gave her a confused look before Violet stood up quickly, she could feel the blood coming up her throat. "I'm sorry April. I have to go."
And with that Violet hurried to the nearest bathroom she could find. The girl had just locked the door behind her when she spun around and immediately vomited blood into the toilet.
Violet felt like she was about to die when the blood was running out of her mouth. She was scared because she couldn't control what was happening to her.
Violet was coughing and gasping for air while she had her hands tightly locked around the edge of the toilet.
When the surge was finally over Violet slowly got up onto her feet and walked over to the sink.
The dark haired girl then immediately grabbed her phone from her pocket and started dialing Damon's number.
After a few moments Damon picked up and Violet felt how she experienced down kind of relief. "Damon- please help me. It's happening again. I'm at the church-", Violet immediately begged when she heard that he has answered the phone.
The man didn't hesitate, "I'm on my way." Violet could hear her voice, it was breaking while the tears were rolling down her cheek, "Damon, please- could you bring me a new dress- mines covered in blood."
"Yes, I'm already on it. I'm also bringing a blood bag", he answered her.
The dark haired girl had just hung up the phone when she suddenly felt another surge coming.
She grabbed onto the edge of the sink while the blood started spilling out of her mouth. The blood splattered against the mirror infront of her while she started coughing and gasping for air.
The girl felt how she started crying again, it felt like she was dying all over again.
She tried to calm herself down while she waited for Damon. After a few minutes she called him again, "I'm here- I'm here. Where are you?", the man immediately questioned her.
"I'm in the basement bathroom", Violet spoke quietly into the phone while she tried to clean the floor.
Suddenly the door handle started wiggling and Violet felt the panic rising inside of her. "Is that you at the door?"
"Not yet", Damon answered. She quickly grabbed another piece of paper and started whipping away the blood from the sink.
Suddenly there was a knock at the door. Violet felt her heart sinking, "Sorry, there's someone in here!"
She then lowered her voice, "Damon, hurry!" The girl turned on the water and tried to clean the blood off the sink.
Only now she realized that her arms were completely covered in her own blood and her skin was as pale as it was before her transformation.
Suddenly she coul hear Damon's voice outside of the bathroom and she immediately opened the door a smidge.
"Damon, thank God!", Violet exclaimed relieved before she immediately grabbed the black dress from his hands.
"Sorry, I spilled coffee all over my dress", Violet immediately apologized while she looked at the man that was sitting on the couch, waiting.
Violet then immediately retreated back into the bathroom and quickly finished cleaning the sink.
"Everything okay in there?", Damons voice questioned her after a while and Violet hurried even more. "Yes, just a minute!"
Violet immediately started stashing the bloody towels in her bag before she started cleaning the toilet.
The dark haired girl then flushed everything down the toilet before she stepped outside into that hallway.
She smiled at the man that stood on Damon's opposite, "I'm so sorry that took so long."
The stranger gave her a small toothless smile and nodded, "No problem."
Damon then focused the man's attention back onto him. "Well enjoy your stay. We love visitors, and the scenery is to die for", Damon stated before he suddenly gasped and made a shocked face. "Funeral pun- too soon."
He then gave Conner one last look before he lead Violet away from him.
The two made their way outside and hid behind a large tree. Violet's eyes scanned Damons body while she questioned, "Did you bring a blood bag?"
Damon gave her a sarcastic look while he raised an eyebrow and let his gaze wander around, "You wanna say that a little louder?"
He grabbed the blood bag from his bag, "Here." Damon handed Violet the blood bag and the girl immediately yanked it from his hands before she started drinking. She was starving.
Damon leaned with an arm against the tree, his hand above her head while she gazed into his eyes and drank the blood bag.
Before she could even swallow the blood she suddenly stated coughing it up again. Damon had a shocked look on his face, "Violet-"
"No, I can't - it tastes like-", the girl started whimpering while Damon whipped the blood quickly off her chin. Her eyes then found his, "What's wrong with me?"
Damon gave her a helpless look, "I don't know. Maybe you're rejecting the transition."
Violet's eyes filled with fear when she questioned him, "I'm dying, aren't I?" Damon immediately shook his head, "No, you're not dying. You just need to drink from the vein."
Violet shook her head at him, "No- no. I can't, Damon. Maybe- maybe I'm better off dead."
"Don't you think like that", Damon grabbed her by her shoulders and stared deeply into her eyes. "Violet- you'll be fine."
The dark haired girl slowly nodded her head at him. "Okay?", Damon questioned while his eyes dropped down to her lips and the moved back up to her eyes.
"We should get back inside", Violet immediately stated before she slipped out of his grasps and hurried back inside the church.
The ceremony was just about to start when Violet made her way down the filled rows.
The dark haired girl was starving and he'd body was shaking while she sat down besides Matt, Ethan and Jeremy.
Adrian immediately gave his sister a worried look, "You okay?"
Violet was so close to just ripping someone throat open, but she just stared straight ahead and tried to control herself, struggling against the urge.
"Hey, April was looking for you. She wanted help with her speech", Jeremy suddenly told Elena, who sat down besides Violet. The brunette frowned, "Where is she?"
Jeremy shrugged, "I don't know."
Violet gave Elena a curious look, the brunette seemed to be completely fine and Violet just couldn't fathom what was wrong with her.
Suddenly the dark haired while could hear Stefan's voice, "What are you doing here Tyler?"
"Being sensitive to the community's loss", Tyler answered him. Stefan raised an eyebrow at the Hybrid, "With a hunter out to get you?"
Tyler shrugged carelessly, "I'm not letting a hunter stop me from being where I'm supposed to be."
"Also, if he shows his face, I'm going to kick his ass", Caroline assured Stefan before the vampire searched for a free seat.
As soon as everyone has taken a seat, Carol Lookwood stepped forward, "Before we being the mass, we'd like to open the floor fo anyone who would like to share a memory about late friends on the town council. I know that April Young wanted to say a few seconds about her dad. April?-"
There was no response and Carol Lookwood looked around the room, "April, are you still here, honey?"
April didn't show herself and Carol decided to animate other people, "Is there anyone else who would like to share a recollection or a memory of Pastor Young?"
There room was silent before Elena suddenly stood up from her seat next to Violet. "Come on up, Elena."
In that moment Damon entered the hall. He dipped his fingers into the holy water that stood by the entrance and moved his fingers up to his head and then down to both of his shoulders. A smirk broke out on his face while he whispered to himself, "I don't know why that always makes me smile."
He then sat down besides Stefan and watched Elena, who was now standing on the stage at the front.
"When I talked to April earlier she was kind of nervous about coming up to speak and now I'm up here. I'm kind of nervous too. The worst day of loving someone is the day you lose them."
Violet's grip suddenly tightened on the bench she was sitting on when she heard droppes of blood falling into The water bowl at the entrance.
"Do you smell that?", Caroline whispered and everyone started listening in. Suddenly Violet heared Ethan's voice, who was sitting on the other side of the room, "Blood."
"Nobody move", Damon instructed them while they all looked straight ahead. "Don't turn around, it's a trap."
Violet felt the sweat dripping down her forehead as she fought against her own body.
Suddenly Elena sat down besides her, her speech was finished and Violet hadn't even heard the half of it.
Elena then immediately wrapped her arms around Violet and the girl still struggled. "The blood- I can smell it. There's so much."
The brunette sighed deeply before she spoke, "Okay, you can do this! Just remember what Stefan taught us - focus, push back. Come on, you can do this."
"What's wrong with her?", Matt suddenly questioned Elena and the brunette girl gave him a helpless look. "She's hungry- she hasn't fed."
"So get her out of here", Matt stated but Elena shook her head. "I can't - There's someone watching us."
"I'm gonna go rip his head off now -", Violet could hear Damon's voice. But Stefan immediately engaged, "You do that, and you risk exposing all of us."
"Oh, I think the risk will be slightly diminished when I, you know, rip his head off", Damon stated confidently and Violet knew that he had this arrogant smirk on his face.
"Elena, I'm losing it!", Violet stated while she grabbed Elena's arm tightly and squeezed it desperately.
"You have ten seconds before I go old-fashioned on the new guy", Damon piped up once more. Elena shook her head to herself, "Don't do it, Damon. Please!"
But Damon didn't listen, "Three, two, one, bye." Just as Damon was about to go, Matt interrupted them, "Wait- wait- wait- Violet , feed from me. It's okay, everyone will think you're upset. Just feed from me."
Matt slowly took Violet from Elena's embrace and pressed her against his body.
Violet could immediately feel his warmth and hear his heartbeat. The blood was rushing through his veins and Violet couldn't bring herself to feed from him until she heard Matt's calming voice in her ear, "It's okay- you're okay- I'm here."
The girl then slowly sunk her teeth into his neck and drank until the urge to drink wasn't there anymore. After that the girl pulled back and gazed into Matt's eyes. "Thank you."
Matt immediately covered his neck with his shirt and Violet whipped her chin with the back of her hand.
"I can still smell the blood- it's gotta be April. We have to help her", Elena stated while she exchanged a look with Stefan who was sitting across the hall.
The man slightly shook his head, "We can't risk it."
"Fine, then I'm -", Elena wanted to argue but was interrupted by Tyler, who was suddenly standing on stage.
He was standing behind the podium, "Excuse me- I just wanted to say a few words about Pastor Young. Back in first grade, I was a brat who couldn't be bothered with team sports. Didn't care much about anything that didn't affect me. But he was the one who made me understand how important it is to be part of a team. A community. Giving yourself up for the sake of-"
Suddenly a shot went off and Tyler immediately went down. The stake had it him tight into his abdomen.
The people were rushing out of the room, screaming and crying while Violet and the other's immediately rushed over to Tyler.
Caroline immediately pulled out the wooden stake and Tyler groaned in pain. "I'm gonna kill that bastard."
"Damon is way ahead of you. Stay here, I have to help", Stefan told the Hybrid, but Elena held him back. "What about April?"
"I got it. Go!", Caroline immediately assured Stefan and the brunette man hurried out of the hall.
"I have to call an ambulance!", Carol stated while she watched Caroline and Tyler. The blond immediately shook her head, "No, he's fine."
"The whole town just watched you get shot! I'm calling an ambulance", Carol immediately explained to them, still in shock.
Caroline suddenly looked around, "Elena?" Her eyes then met Violet's and the dark haired girl immediately nodded, "It's okay, I'll stay with him." Caroline thanked her and after that she was gone.
Tyler was soon transported with the ambulance and Ethan joined him and remained in the hospital until Tyler was free to go.
While the two cousins were waiting on Tyler's paperwork, the rest of the group had gathered by the high school.
"Stefan, what are we doing here?", Damon questioned his brother while he walked towards the group that had gathered on the grass.
Stefan walked slowly through the group and handed them all a lantern, "We're finishing the memorial we didn't get to have earlier today. We need to start healing, Damon. We've all lost so much, especially recently. We think we're numb to it. We push it away, we make a joke out of it, ignore how we feel. Never just let ourselves grieve."
"So you're lighting lanterns?", Damon questioned him with a frown on his face.
Stefan nodded his head, "Yeah, yeah, we need to do this." Damon shook his head while he scoffed, "What we need to do is find out who the hunter is and what he knows about the death of the council. We've more important things to be doing right now than this."
"Not tonight, we don't." Stefan answered him before he grabbed the lighter. "This is for my Uncle Zach- for my friend Lexi- and for Alaric", Stefan stated while he lit the lantern.
He then handed the lighter over to Matt, who lit his own. "This is for Vicki." Then it was Caroline's turn, "This is for my dad and Tyler's."
After that Jeremy stood up and grabbed the lighter from her hands, "This is for our parents, for Vicki, Anna, Jenna- and Alaric."
Jeremy then went to give Damon the lighter, but the man waved him off and frowned, "Now way- I'm not doing that."
He then turned around on his heel and walked back to his car and Violet gave the other's a look. "I'll be right back."
The girl then jogged after him and just as he was about to climb into his car, she caught up to him.
The girl was a little out of breath when she spoke, "I remember everything - one of the highlights of my transition. Remembering everything that you compelled me to forget."
She could see how Damon stopped in his track, so she continued, "Like how you and I met first- you were a stranger that told me he wanted me to get everything I wanted from life. Damon, why didn't you tell me?"
Damon turned around to her, his eyebrows raised in question, "Would it have made a difference?"
Violet remained silent while she just stared at him and Damon nodded, "Didn't think so."
The dark haired girl sighed deeply before she spoke, her arms crossed over her chest, "You asked me to make a choice, so I did. If you're gonna be mad than take it out on me, not on Stefan or Ethan or anyone else."
"Are we done here?", Damon gave her a quick glance and Violet remained silent before he got into his car and drove off.
The dark haired girl remained there for a few moments, but after a while Adrian joined her, followed by the other's, who all still had their lanterns in their hands.
Elena then handed her the lighter and Violet spoke, "This is for my dad- Alaric - Jenna- Everyone that we've all lost. Everyone that this twon has lost- and apparently for me, I guess."
The dark haired girl then lit the lantern and let it fly into the sky, followed by the other's.
The dark haired girl then glanced at Stefan and smiled slightly, "Thank you, Stefan."
( AUTHOR'S NOTE ) . . . .
hey guys! thank you for all the love this book is receiving so far! i just wanted to let you know that i don't want elena to be sired to damon. in order to write my book this way i have to give some parts of elena's story line to violet. i know some of the readers will find that uncreative but it makes sense to me.
enjoy reading!
