ELEANOR FLIPPED THROUGH AN OLD GRIMOIRE. She was riding in the back of Bonnie's car as the Bennett girl drove her and Caroline to the witch house. The Chetwood girl reached the end of the book and tossed it on the seat beside her in defeat. "I've been researching all night, and I can't find anything on how to break a Sire bond."
"Have you ever heard of one being broken?" Caroline asked, raising her eyebrows at both her and Bonnie.
Bonnie shook her head, and Eleanor responded, "Nope." She had only come across a few Sired individuals in her life, and she never really followed up on them, partly because they were insufferably in love with their Sire.
They entered the abandoned witch house, and the place gave the Chetwood girl the creeps. She did not like the idea of thousands of dead witches eavesdropping on whatever they were trying to do there, especially when they hated vampires. Luckily, Bonnie assured her that the ghosts were gone.
"So this is where you brought Jeremy back to life?" the Forbes girl questioned as they stepped inside. The blonde was being very hesitant and careful. When Damon had set foot in the house, the witches had rendered his daylight ring useless until he got out. They did not take kindly to vampires.
"Yeah," the Bennett girl confirmed. "Sorry, I know it's creepy, but we needed a private place around here to do the spell."
The brunette nodded in understanding as she looked around as if she was expecting someone to pop out at them at any moment. "There's no chance it's haunted by the hundred dead witches who were horrifically burned to death in this very spot, is there?"
"They're not here anymore, and they made it clear they were never coming back," the witch assured her with a small chuckle as she began to get herself settled in the middle of a room.
"Right." Caroline nodded slowly as she took a deep breath. Both of the vampires were still very tense. She doubted that old and salty witches would like two vampires entering their home. "You pinkie swear?"
Bonnie was casting the spell, and all of a sudden, the wind began to pick up in the room. Everything was moving and blowing around and Eleanor and Caroline backed up a little bit toward the corners of the room. "Bonnie, I don't like this," the blonde girl exclaimed, but then, someone appeared in front of the Bennett girl, holding her hands.
Eleanor's eyes widened in shock when she saw who it was, having not seen the person in almost a year. "Oh, my God. Is that yourβ"
"Grams," the girl finished, cutting her off. Tears started to well up in Bonnie's eyes as she stared at her grandmother that had been dead ever since the night in the tomb. "I can't believe you're here!"
"Now stop your crying, we don't have time for tears," the woman ordered before turning to the girls standing on the other side of them room. "Nice to see you again, Caroline. Eleanor." Her stare went colder at the sight of the older girl, and Eleanor understood why.
She replied respectfully, "Hi, Ms. Bennett."
"A fine mess you've made, honey. The witches told you there'd be consequences to bringing Jeremy back and you did it anyway," Grams reminded the Bennett girl.
Bonnie sighed, remembering what happened, and Eleanor recalled the resistance that the witches had put up to bringing the Gilbert boy back to life. She would be eternally grateful for it, though. "I didn't have a choice. I love him and I...I couldn't just let him go."
"I understand, but you cracked open the door to the other side. There's an old witch over here. She took advantage of it. She took advantage of you, honey," the woman explained to her granddaughter, giving them an explanation to how all of these ghosts were passing over to their side and interacting with people. "When you did that spell to send Vicki Donovan away, she wedged the door wide open, giving a free pass to anybody with unfinished business."
"How do you know this?" Bonnie questioned, wondering how her grandmother was so wise, even after she died.
Grams shrugged with a small smile. "Witches talk. Even on the other side. Who do you think makes all the rules?" Witches were gossips, in Eleanor's experience.
The younger Bennett questioned, "What does the witch want?"
"That's Original vampire business, not yours. I don't want you getting in the middle of that," Sheila informed her. "I'm here because you upset the balance of nature, and it's your duty to set it right. You need to close that door."
Once Grams had gone, they went over to the Salvatore Boarding House to look for the necklace that would help them get rid of the ghosts. Caroline got on the phone with Elena about something.
"Elena caught Jeremy kissing Anna," the Forbes girl announced before Eleanor even got the chance to ask what was up.
Bonnie and the Chetwood girl had the same reaction, only Eleanor's part was also because she had no clue how Jeremy could be kissing Anna since she was dead, unless they were talking about a different Anna. "What?"
"I'm sorry," Caroline breathed out, and Eleanor pieced together the fact that since a bunch of ghosts were wandering around town, it made a lot of sense for Anna to be one of them.
The Bennett girl's face dropped as her shoulder slumped, staring at the ground in disbelief. "He kissed her?"
"She's got a foothold now, so she probably thinks that she's here to stay," the vampire explained to her, and it was so obvious that she was ready to kill that girl again, and to be honest, Eleanor was too. "But we're going to find that necklace. Okay?"
A little later, Elena called them to inform them that she was pretty sure that Anna had stolen the necklace so that they could not send her back. So, they all hopped in the car. While they drove, Eleanor got a text from the younger Gilbert. "Jeremy's got the necklace. He's going to meet us at the witch house."
"Okay. What's going on up there?" the witch questioned when she saw the silhouette of a car off the side of the road. She slowed down, and they gasped when they saw that she car was crashed into the tree. The Chetwood girl's mouth dropped when she saw Tyler's mother unconscious in the front seat.
Bonnie slammed on the breaks when the ghost of a tomb vampire walked in front of the car. Other tomb vampires started making their way toward Mrs. Lockwood's car, probably seeking revenge for her burning them alive. "Bonnie? I'm going to get out of the car."
The Bennett girl's eyes widened. "What?"
"I'm going with her, and you're going to drive the hell away from here," Caroline informed the girl, shooting her younger friend a supportive glance that told her that she was going to help.
Bonnie scoffed, "No way! I am not leaving you!" But Eleanor was already halfway out of the vehicle.
"Bonnie, you've got your ghost boyfriend drama," the blonde girl said to the driver as she opened the door to follow Eleanor. "Elena has hers. And right now the mother of mine is about to be ghost bait. So go and send them all back to the other side, okay?"
And then they kicked some ghost vampire ass.
They walked back to Eleanor's apartment since they agreed that it was a good night for a sleepover, and as they reached the door, Caroline noticed that something was up. "Hey, you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I was just hoping someone would come to visit me today," Eleanor replied. All of the ghosts were gone, meaning that there was no chance that she was going to see Laurence again.
"Your brother," Caroline guessed correctly, her expression turning into pity as they stepped inside the apartment. "Maybe he's moved on past the Other Side, and that's why he didn't come back."
The Chetwood girl shrugged. It was very possibly, considering it had been five hundred years since he died, but there could also be other reasons. "Or maybe he resents me for getting him killed or for becoming the thing he hated the most."
"I'm sure that's not true," the Forbes girl told her with a frown, and Eleanor dropped her jacket and jewelry onto the kitchen counter.
"I wouldn't blame him," Eleanor sighed. She was a vampire, and they had been raised to despise and kill vampires. She ran a hand through her hair and just walked toward the bathroom. "I'm going to go take a shower."
