chapter 1" Only a mother but not wife"

Welcome to you all in the first chapter. Hope you all will enjoy it.

Eva POV...

"Mom, I will not wear this dress!" I said to her again, but as always, she didn't even glance at me.

The dress was beautiful. It was an off-shoulder bodycon dress with a deep neckline.

I didn't hate the dress, but I'm not into these types of dresses. I usually wear jeans and T-shirts.

I don't know where my mom wants to take me. Yesterday, I graduated, but she wasn't present there. I didn't complain much because it didn't bother me much now.

I was confused about where we were going.

Today happens to be the very first time she is taking me somewhere with her, and that's not all; she also bothers to dress me well.

It never happened before!!!

I was very uncomfortable in this dress, but having no other options, I remained quiet.

"Let's go, honey," she chirped.

I didn't know why she was so happy today, and her behavior was all nice. It's quite weird!!!

I nodded at her and followed her.

"I want you to behave your best there... If I get any complaint about your behavior, you will see my worst," she said, gripping my wrist tightly, which might cause a bruise later.

Tears were forming in my eyes and edging to fall out, but I controlled them and nodded at her.

After a few minutes of driving, we arrived at a lavish restaurant.

I looked at the building; it was so tall and huge.

"Behave, Eva."

My mother gritted her teeth, and I immediately looked down. My mother started to walk, and I followed her. As we entered the restaurant, a man approached us.

Looking at me, he asked, smiling, "Ma'am, how can I help you?"

I tugged a strand of hair behind my ear, feeling uncomfortable with the way he looked at me.

"We are here to meet Mr. Knight," my mother said, smiling.

"Oh, follow me, ma'am," he said and started to walk.

We followed him.

Mr. Knight, who is he?

Why are we here to meet him?

I was thinking about the meeting when I heard my mom's voice.

"Mr. Knight, it's nice to see you."

Her extra sweet voice didn't go unnoticed by me. I looked ahead and saw a man's back facing us. We were facing his back, but by looking at his posture, I could tell that he was standing as if he owned the restaurant.

His shoulders were broad, and he was standing so straight. He was probably taller than 6 feet. He turned after hearing my mother's voice.

He was the most gorgeous man I had ever seen. My eyes were fixated on his face as he looked at my mother. He put his hand in his pocket, and his broad chest rose towards us.

God! Is he for real?

I shamelessly checked him out, but as our eyes met, I looked down and gulped. I blushed with embarrassment. God, how could I?

I was so ashamed of myself. I had never behaved this way before. He looked at my mother and nodded.

"Mr. Knight, meet my daughter, Eva," she said, holding my shoulders and presenting me like a showpiece to him.

He looked at me from head to toe, as if analyzing me. I looked down, feeling uncomfortable under his sharp gaze.

He took a deep breath and again looked at my mother, nodding. It was as if they were communicating through their eyes. I didn't understand a single thing...

"I hope you like her," she said, grinning a lot.

Like her!!!

What does she mean by that???

Before I could ask anything or he could say anything, his phone rang. He excused himself, and I turned to my mother, who looked a little tense.

"Mom, what do you mean by 'like her'?" I asked her. She looked at me and then smirked.

"You are going to marry him, honey," she said, holding my wrists.

I looked at her in shock. I had just graduated yesterday! I had dreams!! I wanted to fulfill them! I can't get married! How could she! Wait! With whom? 'Him'?

Before I could ask her, she said, "Stop running thoughts in your useless brain! And yes! It's him," dropping a bomb on me. Before I could ask her any further questions or deny this, he made it back to us.

I looked at him in disbelief, showing how this man could want to marry me. Look at him!! And look at me!!!

"Mr. Knight, you like her...right?" My mother asked again.

How desperate!!

"I want to talk to her" For the first time, I heard his voice. It was so deep, manly, and husky! His voice alone could make anyone weak in the knees. My mother nodded, grinning like a fool.

I wanted to shout at her. How could she just decide to marry me off? And that too, to a person I never knew.

As my mother went away, he looked at me as if he was burning a hole through my body. I shifted uncomfortably.

First this dress, and now him.

I glanced at him, but then quickly looked down. I didn't want him to know my inner state, and I didn't want to look into those deep eyes.

"Miss Williams..." he said, taking my name. It sounded different from all the others who had said it.

"Please have a seat," he gestured to the chair in front of him. I silently sat down.

"Do you have any questions regarding this marriage?" he asked me coldly.

I wanted to ask, but I was debating with myself whether to do so or not. But in the end, I decided to ask.

"Wh-Why do you want to marry me?" I nervously asked him. It was the most important question I wanted to ask.

He released a long breath and then spoke.

"I have a daughter," he dropped a bomb on me. I looked at him, wanting to ask many more questions, but he started speaking again.

"I just want a mother for my daughter, and that's why I am marrying you," he said.

As soon as the words left his mouth, all my dreams of being loved shattered. I looked at him in disbelief.

"Look, Miss Williams... I know you graduated yesterday and you have dreams. You can fulfill them, and I will support you financially as much as you want. But in return, you have to be a mother to my daughter. After the marriage, nothing will change. You will just be her mother, not my wife..." he explained. Taking a minute pause, he emphasized the particular sentence.

"A mother, but not a wife."

"Okay," I replied.

"Only a mother, but not a wife."
