That's a question Bridget Miller ; wife of Tommy Miller has been asking herself for the past 20 years. One moment, everything was perfect... Until it wasn't.

September 26th, 2003. The day that everything changed. The day everyone lost everything. The day the world turned upside down and tore itself apart. Cordyceps — a fungus know for infecting insects only — has mutated and became capable of infecting humans, turning them into aggressive creatures.

The believers saw it as humanity's doomsday. The final judgement. The others saw it as the beginning of an endless nightmare. And they were right. 

20 years later and they're still living in a nightmare. The world is in shambles. No one was spared. Infected people were running everywhere. And the longer they were left alive, the more dangerous they became. People are doing everything it takes to survive. 

Tommy Miller, his wife Bridget, and his older brother Joel also had to do the most horrible things in order to survive in this world. Which led to their fallout, years later.

"𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭."

And this is what Tommy, and Bridget did. Just a few years after the outbreak and the birth of their twin daughters, they joined the Fireflies. Freedom fighters for some. Terrorists for others, especially the FEDRA. 

However, Tommy, and Bridget saw things differently as they were actively trying to create a vaccine to save thousands, if not millions of lives. But after a few years, they left, realizing that they weren't doing the right thing. Indeed, they did exactly what they swore to never do again.

2023. Joel Miller, still living in the Boston QZ met Marlene, a member of the Fireflies who asked him to smuggle a young teenage girl across the country to Salt Lake City. This young girl, named Ellie Williams, is immune to the cordyceps brain infection. Marlene believed she could save the world.

It's only a few months later that Joel and Ellie arrive in Jackson, where Tommy, Bridget and their daughters have been living for a few years already. However, the joy of their reunion will be short lived. Indeed, Joel asks Tommy to take Ellie to Salt Lake City, not believing he could do it alone. Tommy reluctantly agrees to do it, before Joel finally decides to take Ellie himself, realizing that he would NOT abandon her after everything they've been through.

But they won't be alone as Hope Miller — Tommy and Bridget's daughter —, ends up tagging along, wanting to help her uncle save the world. However, the world is far more cruel than the sixteen year old teenager thought. Between having to run for her life, to fighting cannibals, her time with Joel and Ellie will leave its scar.

Just like her parents she wants to save the world. They failed. She won't. No matter what it takes.

This story is FINALLY here after working on it for MONTHS ! You have no idea how excited I am for you to read this story ! I first watched The Last Of Us earlier this year and became OBSESSED with it and after that, I played both games that are AMAZING ! That's why I'll be adding a few elements from the game in this story (first time I'm doing something like this so let's hope it turns out well !)
