CHAPTER FORTY NINE
โโโโโโโโโโเนโกเนโโโโโโโโโโ
AENORA AND JAELYX HAD FLOWN into Kings Landing successfully unnoticed. The two landed Vyr and Bluefyre in the hidden hills behind the Red Keep, hoping no one would see them. It was kind of hard to hide a dragons. Vyr was large and very recognizable, Bluefyre was bright and tended to let out loud whimpers.
"Mother, are you sure you want to do this?" Jaelyx asked in Valyrian, as he helped her from her dragon.
"I have to try to talk to Aegon. I'm hoping his mother is the only reason he hasn't come to me," Aenora explained.
Jaelyx gave her a simple nod before he handed her a cloak.
Aenora wrapped herself in the black cloak and did her best to tuck her silver hair away in the hood.
She didn't know how this would end. There was a good chance Alicent succeeded in turning Aegon against her. And if so, she knew what she would be forced to do. She'd have to follow through with her promise.
Aenora and her son found their way into the castle through one of the many hidden entrances.
The fear she felt as she walked through the dark halls was not for herself but for her son. If they were to be caught she knew Jaelyx would rather fight than be captured, and although Jaelyx was a skilled fighter there were more guards than he could take.
When Jaelyx heard footsteps he came to an abrupt stop and pushed Aenora behind him. The two hid in the shadows and watched Ser Criston Cole and Ser Erryk walk by.
Jaelyx made sure the two were out of sight before they continued down the hall.
A part of Aenora wanted to turn back, but she came too far to do so. Her son would do whatever she wished, whether that meant turning back or continuing on.
It wasn't long before Aenora and Jaelyx heard Helaena and Aegons voices coming from one of the chambers around the corner.
"There are two guards," Jaelyx informed.
Aenora looked at the guards before giving her son a nod to kill them.
Jaelyx said nothing as he walked into the torch lit hall and towards the guards.
The guards heads turned to him and immediately their hands reached for their swords.
"Who are you?"
"Take off your hood."
Jaelyx did as he was told and removed his hood, revealing his silver hair. Both guards looked at one another unsure of what to do, but the prince gave them no time to react. Jaelyx drew his sword and in a single swing their heads went flying.
Jaelyx would remember these two men. They were the first people he's ever killed. He wouldn't forget them. Not for the rest of his life.
Aenora stood over the men's bodies, stunned. She wondered if this came easy to her children.
Jaelyx was the first to enter the chamber, making sure there were no other guards.
There weren't. Only a surprised Aegon and smiling Helaena.
"Brother, sister." Aenora said as she took off her hood.
"Nora," Helaena was quick to go to her sister.
Aenora embraced her sister. She was relieved to know Helaena hadn't been turned against her. Helaena may be a little... odd... but Aenora loved her nonetheless.
"What're you doing here, Aenora?" Aegon questioned.
He grabbed Helaenas arm and pulled her away from their sister.
Jaelyx watched the boy intensely, waiting for him to make any movement towards his mother. Though, Aenora knew he wouldn't. Aegon wasn't that stupid. Especially after Rhaenelles threat to take his eye. He knew not to test Aenoras children.
"I wanted to speak with you, little brother." Aenora moved closer to him. "You and I both know I am the rightful heir. I want all my siblings at my side as I rule the realm. I'm asking you to bend the knee, Aegon."
"You declared war against me by killing my grandfather. I am Viserys's eldest son. The moment I was born I replaced you as the heir. I am the king now," Aragon said.
Aegon sounded exactly like his mother. She had her claws deep in him. Aenora knew he thought he was right and in some ways he was. It was tradition for the eldest son of the king to be the heir. But Viserys named her. It was hers to take.
Aenora wasn't going to beg him nor was she going to agree to anything he should offer.
She straightened her posture and folded her hands together.
"Fine, but don't say I didn't try, little brother." Aenora said.
"I think it's best if you leave, sister." Helaena frowned.
Aenora nodded as she turned to take her leave.
Jaelyx stayed for a moment as if he were debating killing Aegon right there and being done with all this bother.
He decided against it.
As Aenora and Jaelyx walked down the hall from which they came, she thought. Anger filled her. She lost all of her siblings.
"Go to the dragons," Aenora told Jaelyx.
Her son gave her a worrisome look, "Not with out you."
"Jaelyx, do as I tell you. I promise I will be there soon," Aenora said as she touched his face.
Jaelyx nodded.
Aenora left her son there and began racing through the castle, looking for the woman she hated more than anyone.
She ran from one side of the Red Keep to the other, but somehow managed to avoid the maids and guards who walked the halls.
The familiar heat of rage consumed Aenoras entire being once again. Alicent would regret ever going against her. She may not meet the same end as Otto, but her end would just as painful.
When she reached the quarter of the castle she was sure Alicent would be in, she searched every room until she found the right one.
In the chamber at the very end of the hall, Aenora found Alicent.
She quietly entered the chamber and shut the doors behind her, locking it.
When Alicent turned and saw who had entered, she was utterly shocked.
"Princess," Alicent said.
For a moment, Aenora stared at her. There was only one thing she thought about and that was killing her.
"You fucking bitch!" Aenora shouted as she lunged at the woman.
When the two made contact they fell side ways into a wooden chair, breaking it into pieces.
Aenora and Alicent wrestled eachother for dominance. For a second Alicent had the upper hand until Aenora hit her in the ribs, knocking her off balance.
Aenora flipped them both over and reached for the knife she hid in her boot. But as she was turned Alicent had time to grab ahold a piece of the broken chair. She plunged the sharp end of the piece of word into Aenoras side, making her cry out in pain.
But, there was so much adrenaline and rage coursing through the queen, she could take it. Aenora pulled the wood from her side and threw it across the room. And with the knife she had grabbed, Aenora stabbed Alicent repeatedly until she stopped fighting back.
Some would say that taking revenge on those who've wronged you gives you no satisfaction, no relief. But that simply wasn't true for Aenora. She felt free, finally.
Aenora got up from the ground, covered in blood and pieces of flesh. She got out of that chamber as fast as she could and ran. When the adrenaline started wearing down she could feel her wound. As she ran through the halls, she held her side.
She was losing blood quickly and her vision was blurred.
Aenora ran to what used to be Rhaenyra old bed chamber. She moved the bed that hadn't been touched in years and exited through the hidden door.
It was sheer mental willpower that kept Aenora running. She needed to get back to her son and dragon. She couldn't die. Not yet.
When Jaelyx spotted his blood covered mother running slowly up the side of the hill, he ran to her.
He asked no questions before picking her up and taking her to Vyr.
She had enough strength left to place herself in the saddle but Jaelyx helped anyway. He strapped her in and ripped a piece of his cloak to place on her side.
"I'm okay, sweet boy." Aenora smiled weakly at him.
Jaelyx knew she wasn't but there was nothing he could do there.
He jumped from Vyr's back to the ground and ran to Bluefyre.
The two dragons took off into the sky and flew as high and as fast as they could.
Above the clouds it peaceful, quiet and calm.
And it was all interrupted by a string of fire shooting up from below them. Sunfyre came quickly after the fire, shooting up as fast as an arrow with his mouth wide, aiming for Bluefyres neck. There was not enough time for anything to be done.
Sunfyre and Aegon killed Bluefyre and Jaelyx.
Aenora watched as Jaelyx and his dragon fell from the sky until he disappeared into the clouds. Her voice was weak and broken as she cried out for her son.
Sunfyre aimed for Aenora and Vyr next. But Vyr was faster than any living dragon. He lost the golden dragon in the clouds with ease. His mission wasn't to fight, but to get his rider back home.
"My son," Aenora wept.
Her heart felt as if it was ripped for her chest and trampled on. She's never felt a pain so horrific, so painful. It was worse than Daemons betrayal. It was worse then losing her mother. She wanted to die right there.
Vyr landed on the beach when they arrived on Dragonstone. In those six years Aenora spent locked away from her family, she told Vyr that one of things that brought her peace was the ocean. The sounds, the scenery, everything about it gave her a sense of serenity.
Aenora climbed off of Vyr but only made it a few steps away from him before she dropped to her hands and knees. Aenora could hear her youngest daughter yelling for her from above the hill, but she had no strength or will left in her.
She placed one of her hands on her stomach, "I know you're a girl, I've felt it in my bones for weeks. I will never meet you, but I shall name you. Daenerys. Your name is Daenerys and I promise you will live in another lifetime."
Aenora fell onto her back dying, gasping and heaving for air.
And with her dying breath she said, "Take me away, Vyr. Take me far far away."
