[let's ignore that he's hot and accept he's an ass in this story, lol]
After she had spent the rest of the day at the Samcro clubhouse it was time for Cleo to get home. Jax explained that he would stay at the house with the kids for another few days until him and Tara found a solution for the problem.
Cleo had a feeling that Tara wouldn't accept the break up and do everything to get Jax back; that's why she felt a little jealous about the fact he was still staying with her, especially overnight when the kids would be asleep anyway. They would have lots of time to talk and that had triggered Cleo's nervousness.
She knew her mom wasn't home yet from the diner, meant she had nothing to distract herself from the craving she was feeling. She really wanted to get her addiction under control now that Jax and her had an actual chance but she simply couldn't.
The familiar nausea kicked in on time, her body knowing exactly what she needed. It bothered her greatly that she couldn't resist. Her grip around the steering wheel got tight enough she could see the skin over her knuckles turn white.
Jax would probably end things with her before they even really started if he would find out; but she couldn't do it on her own. She couldn't get clean without help from the outside. For others it were only painkillers and other pills but for her it was everything.
The brunette ran straight inside once she parked her car in her usual spot on the street in front of the house, rushed into the bathroom and got what she needed out of the small cabinet over the sink. A few different kinds of pills were crushed quickly with the help of the bottom of the cup with the toothbrushes in it.
She quickly lined the white powder up, bend over the washing machine and snorted the two lines, a groan of relief coming from the back of her throat as she leaned back against the old green tiles.
"Fuckin' perfect", she muttered sarcastically to herself as she made her way to her room to lay down in her bed to enjoy the little high that would kick in soon, wiping away the blood that was dripping from her nose with the back of her hand. No matter how good the high felt, she started to hate her addiction more and more.
──
It had been a horrible night for the brunette and more than once she was afraid her mother would catch her snorting their stock of painkillers and coughing syrup; another thing she was slightly addicted to.
The next morning she had told her mom that she felt sick and couldn't come to work, which wasn't entirely wrong but also not the whole truth. The young woman did feel like shit, but she would use her day off to visit her brother and ask for his advice, maybe even his help.
Besides her father, Enrico was the only one who knew about her problem and had tried many times to get her away from the stuff. Maybe now it was the time to take his help.
The drive seemed to take hours today until she finally parked her car next to a few bikes. She wasn't even out of the car and knew already that it was a quiet day at the Mayans clubhouse.
Looking at the clubhouse, a deep sigh slipped over her lips. Her visits here were cut short most of the time since she had broken up with one of the members a year ago; she had her reasons why she stayed out of his way but she missed coming here more often and spend more than fifteen minutes here.
With a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach, she put on her sunglasses to hide her bloodshot eyes and the dark circles and slowly walked towards the door. Her body was screaming to turn around and feed her addiction more but she needed to do the right thing. Somehow she felt a lot shittier today than she usually did after taking this much, which could only mean her body was craving a bigger dose.
"Hey Cleo, haven't seen you around in a while", Angel said as he was just coming out the door before she could get a hold of the door handle. "Enrico is inside if you're looking for him. How are you?"
"Angel, hey. Yeah, it's been a while", she smiled briefly and wrapped her arms around him as he gave her a big hug. He was Enrico's best friend around here and she had spent a lot of fun nights with the both of them, especially the club parties had been always fun. "I'm good, thanks. I hope you're doing good, too."
"That's good to hear. Wouldn't mind having you around more again", he told her honestly after he let go of her and studied her somehow concerned. "You sure you're fine?"
Cleo nodded eagerly, a little too eagerly. Her head was giving her a hard time today with the throbbing headache that seemed to get only worse.
"Just a little tired, that's all. You have to leave?", she asked, pointing at the black backpack that was hanging over one of his shoulders.
"Yeah, sorry. Next time when you come around give us a call before so I don't plan anything." He kissed her forehead, playfully bumping his shoulder against hers as he walked off, making her chuckle softly.
After his bike roared to life, she heaved a sigh and went inside only to find her brother sitting on the couch with a Croweater halfway on his lap.
"Not what I wanted to see today but okay", the brunette grinned as she walked over, embracing Enrico in a hug after he got on his feet quickly. From that moment on the Croweater wasn't important anymore.
"Hey, I didn't know you were coming. Is everything okay?", he asked, a lot more concern in his tone than usually. Since Cleo had broken up with Adrian she didn't come by often anymore. That's why he was instantly worried that something had happened.
"Yes, well, kind of", she told him with a sigh and wrinkled her nose. "I need your help, Enrico."
Enrico nodded briefly, put a hand on her back and gently shoved her towards the bar. After he ordered the prospect to bring them two beers, he sat down next to her and studied the brunette with a look full of concern.
"What do you need, bug?", he asked.
The nickname always managed to bring a smile to her face. Enrico called her bug since she can remember.
"I met someone. He's a great guy but I don't think he'll accept my addiction, especially because of his two kids. He can't have a junkie around them", Cleo started to explain and scratched her forehead, thinking about how she could keep it from her brother that her new boyfriend was a Son. "I can't do it on my own, the drugs have too much power over me already."
First of all, Enrico was more than relived to hear those words coming from his sister. Her addiction had worried him since he found out about it but he also knew that a junkie needed to want help; otherwise they would always push people away who wanted to help them. That's why he gave up telling her what to do. Instead, he had kept an eye on her and made sure she wouldn't overdose.
Hearing now that she wanted his help, that she came to him, meant more to him than she could ever imagine. In his mind he had failed her by leaving her with their father and watch her getting addicted to drugs because of his influence.
But of course he was alarmed to hear that she had met someone. Did he know the guy? And if not, was he treating her the right way? If he wouldn't, he would take care of it personally.
"You know I was only waiting for you to say that, to ask for help", he said with a proud smile on his face. "I'm here for you, bug, and we'll get you away from that shit. But first I want to know more about that guy. Do I know him?"
"Thank you, Enrico, you have no idea how much you're helping me with that", she hardly whispered, tears brimming in her eyes. He could've easily said no after all the times he tried to help her. Every single time she had pushed him away and told him to leave her alone when it came to her addiction. She was more than thankful that he would help her now.
At his other question, she grew quiet for a while. God, how she hated to have secrets. Especially with her brother.
"Uh, no, I don't think you know him." The lie slipped over her lip as if it was nothing, causing her to feel guilty even more now. But she couldn't loose him, not Enrico. "He's a little older, ten years. He has a four year old and the younger one is only ten month old. They're amazing kids and he's treating me good."
Enrico watched her talk and how her face lit up when she started telling him about the man she had met; that was a good sign. He wanted his sister to be happy, she deserved that. But he still wanted to meet this so called guy.
"Good, because if he wouldn't treat you good I'd have a talk with him", Enrico said dead serious. "So, you don't have a problem with him having two kids already? What about the mother?"
"I can take care of myself", she smirked slightly, yet she found it cute to have her brother's back. "No, like I said, they're amazing. And the mother, well..", the brunette sighed and took a sip of the beer, thanking the prospect with a nod.
"What? She's a bitch?", he inquired, raising a brow.
"Kind of, yeah. Called me a whore and talked to me like I was trash, told me that he's hers. But I won't let a chick like her push me around", she shrugged.
"Be careful, alright? I know you can dish out and defend yourself but don't underestimate a jealous woman", Enrico told her firmly. It was good Cleo had talked back but he was still worried about his little sister. Women could be worse and more dangerous than some men when it came to jealousy.
The brunette was about to answer when a familiar voice echoed in the room as the door to the clubhouse opened. She stood up quickly and kissed her brother's cheek.
"Listen, I have to go. Can I call you later? Talk about how were doing that rehab shit?", she asked, smiling weakly.
Enrico frowned suspiciously but knew he wouldn't get an answer now about her weird behavior. Did she want to leave because of the others? They were like family to her, it wouldn't make sense. This was definitely something he would ask her later about.
"Yeah, sure", he nodded and grabbed her wrist before she could storm out, causing her to turn around to him again. "I'm proud of you, Cleo."
She swallowed the new tears forming in her eyes at his words. "Love you, Rico. See you later", she mumbled, her lips trembling slightly when he told her he loved her, too.
The brunette said a quick hello to the others, only to be stopped in her tracks by no other than Adrian, her ex boyfriend.
"What do you want?", she snarled in a whisper. The grip of his hand around her wrist was tight as he dragged her outside while the others greeted each other. "And let go of me!"
She snatched her wrist out of his grip and almost hurt herself by doing so. Rubbing over the slightly hurting spot, she sighed deeply.
"Are you here because of me?", he asked bluntly.
"Why in the hell should I be here because of you? You do know my brother is part of that MC, too, right?", she scoffed at the much taller man.
"Don't be a bitch", the man barked, getting the brunette to flinch slightly. "Why aren't you answering my calls?"
She hated herself for this reaction. That man still had the power to trigger her, scare her. If her brother knew about his actions during their relationship he would kill Adrian with his bare hands; that was the main reason Cleo never said a word about it.
If Enrico would loose his shit and kill Adrian, that would get him killed, too. And her brother's temperament was worse than hers and her father's together, which meant something. When it came to her or their mother Enrico didn't know any boundaries and could turn into one dangerous man.
"Because we broke up! What is it you don't understand about that? You're lucky enough I haven't said anything to Enrico", she whispered loudly. "But if those calls don't stop I might will."
Adrian spit on the ground close to her converse sneakers and snorted a laugh, taking a step closer. "Please, we both know you would never risk loosing your brother. But──", he paused, leaning down so he could whisper in her ear." ──just in case you do tell him one day, be sure I'll kill you before he gets me."
Her breath hitched in her throat that suddenly felt unbelievably dry. She hated to be so vulnerable and scared around him, that wasn't like her at all. All the abuse she had to go through because of him had done something to her, teached her a lesson to be more careful.
"Fuck you", she muttered under her breath and rushed over to her car without another word to him.
"I'd rather fuck you, princess", he called after her, shaking his head in amusement. Man, he enjoyed being able to scare her. In his eyes that meant she was still his little bitch. Sure, if Enrico would ever find out, his days would be numbered but for now he wasn't going to back off; she was still his woman.
