❝ someone's a little impatient. ❞
SPENCER REID FINALLY exited the offices of the BAU and entered the parking garage alongside hotch. it was getting pretty late and they thought it should be time to get home. spencer had still been waiting for the text from olivia, saying she made it home safely. as he walked closer to his car, he saw the familiar vehicle right in front of him. it was olivia's car. he stopped in his tracks and began to stand still, trying to remember if it actually is her car or not. of course, hotch noticed spencer's paused movements. "reid?"
"liv. that's liv's car." spencer pointed to the grey vehicle parked before him. hotch glanced at the car and then back at spencer, "i thought she already left."
"she did, but she never texted me if she was home or not, which she already should be by now." spencer told him. he walked closer to the car, noticing the shiny object that was on the ground. he remembered what olivia said to him the day they ran into each other at the park.
the late december breeze sent chills down their spines due to the cold temperature. olivia and spencer were seated on a park bench together as liv was explaining her rings and why she wears them on her finger. "this ring was actually given to me by my mom on the night of my senior year prom." she said, holding up her hand as she pointed to the dainty, golden ring that had a heart on it. "i didn't have a date, so anna decided to drop hers to be mine. and my mom, anna, and i have matching ones."
"that's actually really sweet." spencer smiled.
"yeah, i always keep this ring on my finger. it's one of my most prized possessions and i hardly ever take it off." she told him.
spencer turned around to see hotch staring at him, and then he turned back around to pick up the ring. "this is liv's. she told me that she rarely ever takes it off. something has to be wrong."
"are we sure that it just didn't fall off?" hotch asked. it was very rare, but his tone of voice suggested a hint of frantic emotion, despite how stern his voice still sounded.
he shook his head, "no, she's had this ring for years. if anything, it would be harder to take off due to her finger probably being accommodated by the size of ring and the fact she got this when she was a teenager, and she's now a grown adult." spencer's voice was slightly raised due to the devastating thought of olivia being in danger.
he took out his phone from his pocket and called liv's number. she usually always picks up when spencer calls, but after three attempts, she didn't answer. then, he decided to call anna. he thought maybe there was a chance she was with her. after five rings and another two attempts, she didn't pick up. "liv and anna aren't answering." he told hotch.
"okay, let's get back upstairs. call garcia and tell her to meet us at the round table along with everyone else." hotch sternly requested, walking back to the elevator while spencer followed and called the team.

her eyes started to slowly flutter open as olivia was gradually regaining consciousness and little strength. the first thing she noticed was her dark surroundings, a few hanging lights from the ceiling being the light source. olivia tilted her head back to get the hair out of her face before actually realizing she was sitting on a chair, her arms and legs tied to it with ropes. she tried to vigorously shake her wrists from the ropes that was tied down to the arm rests of the chair, failing. she shut her eyes a bit, exhausted and cold.
she heard a few chuckles, "wow, someone's a little impatient."
the voice was familiar, but she didn't want to believe it. she opened her eyes, her gaze finding devin wyatt, who was only a few feet away from her. a knife was in his hands, his eyes fixated on it as his fingers would run through the blade. "i honestly can't believe i fooled a team of FBI agents, who study behavior for a living." he snickered, "like c'mon, me? really? i'm especially surprised that your little boyfriend didn't catch on, considering how smart that man is. by the way, you did good. he is quite the man."
"you've got to be kidding me, devin. what are you doing?" she shook her tied down wrists again, causing devin to point the knife at her direction. "stop doing that, you're gonna get rope burns. and also what does it look like? i've kidnapped you."
"let me go." she demanded.
"since you asked so nicely, i guess." he sarcastically replied, continuing to play with the blade of his knife with his fingers.
"why'd you kidnap me? what, are you gonna kill me?" olivia asked. devin groaned in annoyance, "oh my god, can you please stop talking? or so help me god, i will kill her."
her head shot up at his statement, "kill who? who are you talking about?"
"anna." he shrugged his shoulders as if it should've been obvious who he was talking about. olivia's eyes widened and she could've sworn she felt her heart stop, "you have her? let her go! she doesn't need to be in this."
"of course she does. she's the only person you care more about in this world other than that hot boyfriend of yours. and i can't get to him, because he probably would've seen that from a mile away." devin rolled his eyes. "but i can bring her here so you can see her, though. i'm not that much of a monster, okay?"
devin left the room for a few minutes, olivia growing impatient and anxious as a few tears dwelled her eyes. she could hear the screaming of anna getting closer and closer. her and devin entered the room olivia was in, anna trying her hardest to get out of his grip. "get off of me, you reek of alcohol! both rubbing and drinking." anna commented. devin made an offended face, "oh, i do not, i smell wonderful! stop it."
he pushed anna to the ground, on her knees in front of olivia, and wrists tied together. she already had a few bruises on her face and hands which olivia can only assume she fought back. tears threatened to spill on her face as liv looked at her best friend, "i'm so sorry." she whispered.
"don't be." she assured her. devin pulled out another chair and began to tie anna to it. afterwards, he grabbed a video camera and its stand and placed it in front of them.
"let's send a message, shall we?"

spencer paced back and forth in the BAU conference room as the rest of the team walked through the door. penelope took frantic steps, clutching onto her laptop as she set it down at the table, ready to take any orders she can. the others remained standing. "what's going on?" jj asked, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. it was 2 in the morning and everyone was just about to get sleep.
"we have reason to believe that olivia has been abducted." hotch informed them.
the team's confused expressions fell to a look of disbelief and a heartbroken one. the room was silent for a second before penelope spoke up once she processed the information. "what? oh my god, my poor sweet angel." she mumbled.
"garcia, can you track olivia's phone?" hotch requested.
she immediately opened her laptop, her fingers hitting the keys, "of course, sir."
"and we have no idea who might've done this? has she made any enemies recently, or was this the work of an old one? or maybe she was just targeted by a new person in her life?" emily questioned.
the clacking of penelope's keys on her keyboard stopped and she froze, causing their attention. "liv's phone stopped tracking her location the second she stepped inside the parking garage." derek noticed a notification from the corner of her screen, "what's that?" he pointed.
"i- i don't know." penelope answered. as she was about to click on the notification, she shared her screen on the bigger one in front of them.
the notification was an invitation to a website sent to penelope's email. she clicked on it, the first thing popping up was olivia and anna tied down to chairs in a dark, empty space. "oh. . ." penelope muttered, her eyes starting to get glossy.
"hey, can you guys see me? can you guys hear me good?" the young adult, devin wyatt, asked them on the screen.
"oh my god." jj commented.
devin continued, "i'm just gonna assume you guys can hear and see me, and if not, then this is really embarrassing and i apologize." he chuckled.
spencer can feel himself growing furious. his fingers subconsciously started to press into the palm of his hand, as his his other one was still holding onto the ring he found. of course. how could i have not known? he was right in front of me this entire time. i should've arrested him when i had the chance. if something happens to liv or anna. . ., he thought.
"by the way, i can't hear you guys, so don't even try bothering to talk to me. however, i will call you guys from time to time. is that cool?" devin said.
"garcia?" hotch said. she automatically understood what his orders were without him needing to say it. "he's using multiple proxy servers. it's like the website doesn't even exist, but that doesn't make sense because it's right in front of us, but i can't find anything on it. i don't know how he did it." penelope explained, a tone of worrisome in her voice.
"i'm gonna call you guys now, but don't even try to trace the call, it's on a burner phone. looking at you, ms. garcia. you're doing great, though. women in STEM, am i right?" devin's taunt freaked penelope out, but derek placed a hand on her shoulder to comfort her. how could someone even make jokes at a time like this? that question ran through everyone's heads.
then the answering machine that was placed in the middle of the table started ringing. they waited a bit before hotch was the one to answer. "devin wyatt?"
devin grinned a bit, "oh, aaron hotchner? hi, look, i think you're great, but you weren't exactly the person i wanted to talk to. no offense, though. do you think you can put the pretty doctor on the phone? dr. reid, are you there?" the team's attention shifted towards reid who had his jaw clenched. he looked at hotch, signaling to let him talk to him. he shook his head a little before speaking to devin again, "he's not here."
"aaron hotchner." he scolded. "don't lie to me, i know he's there. you can't fool me like i did you. i just wanna talk to him. the entire team can listen to our conversation if you want."
hotch caved in, stepping aside to let spencer talk to him. "let liv and anna go." he demanded. "wow, a man who goes straight to the point." devin said. "you know, if you and olivia don't work out, you know where to call me." he teased.
"what do you want?" spencer asked.
"i want to torture olivia." he answered, causing spencer to tense up. as if devin can see right through him, he said, "relax, not physically. or maybe i will torture her physically later, who knows? but anyways, i want her to know how it feels when she gets a loved one taken away from her, just like when she killed my father. i want her to suffer as much as i did when that foster home abused me and she abandoned me there."
"leave anna and my team out of this! just hurt me, since i'm the one who wronged you." olivia yelled.
"liv?" spencer didn't say anything else, knowing that because of his personal relationship with olivia, he could potentially be removed from helping. "oh my god! you are so annoying, shut up!" devin yelled back. "as i was saying, i thought it'd be fun if i kept the BAU updated on this fun journey. see you in a little bit, my favorite agents."
with that, the call ended. spencer turned around and ran his fingers through his hair, infuriated about the current situation. he started to pace back and forth again. hotch looked at garcia with some hope that maybe, she was able to track the call or the website. but she shook her head, his eyes shutting in disappointment.
garcia searched for more information on devin, hoping there can be anything she and the team can use to find them. the website was still running on the screen, but devin must've muted his side as no sounds came out. spencer's eyes glared at the screen, watching devin walk closer to olivia with a knife in his hand. the knife was playing with her hair as she stood incredibly still, as if she was unbothered. but spencer knows olivia. probably better than he knows himself. he knows that she's scared, and he can't do anything to stop her from feeling that way.
"devin wyatt." penelope read from her screen, giving the team new information about him. "he is a chem major, and is actually doing really well in school. he kind of has the ideal life right now, it seems. but a few months ago, he was prescribed antidepressants."
"jj, prentiss." hotch called. he wanted the both of them to go to devin's home and search for anything that may help them. they definitely didn't think devin held liv and anna at his house, it would've been too easy, and they know devin isn't stupid.
all the while, devin continued to play with olivia's hair, using the knife in his hands. "so, what's the hair routine? i'm not gonna lie to you, your hair is kinda soft." he spoke.
"devin, if you let us go now, you won't have to be in prison any longer than you need to be." olivia told him.
"funny, that's what anna said to my father before you shot him to his death." he recalled before sighing. "it's getting a little bit boring, don't you think? i know i just spoke to my favorite agents, but let's give them show!"
he walked near where the camera was and looked down at his computer that was streaming the live video, and unmuted himself. instead of walking back towards olivia, he went in anna's direction. he would slap and kick her making olivia jump every time. a few tears would trickle down her face as she would plead devin to stop. he then looked at the camera, grabbing a gun from a nearby table. he pointed it at olivia, pressing the trigger, but missing on purpose. the sudden movement made everyone jump. "next time, i may not gonna miss."
then, the stream ended completely.
spencer couldn't take it anymore, he was incredibly frustrated. there was nothing he wanted more in this world than to have olivia and anna here safely and devin rotting in prison. out of anger and impulse, spencer pushed a file that was on the table to the ground. it startled the other team members quite frankly.
"reid," hotch stated. "clear your head."
he walked out of the conference room to the steps leading to the bullpen with derek following. he's known spencer for many years. hell, they were practically like brothers, and not once has he seen spencer so full of anger in the way he is right now. "kid!" he called out.
"he's going to kill them, and it's going to be my fault." spencer stated. "i should've known devin wasn't innocent. i think i realized it earlier, but it shouldn't have taken me this long. this shouldn't be happening to liv, or anna. i lo-" spencer stopped himself. it wasn't the best time to display his feelings for olivia, especially in front of someone else. it was more of a spur-of-the-moment thing the phrase almost popped out. however, he still continued as if nothing happened, "i- i can't lose her." he said, in a softer way than his other words.
derek could see the pure devastation spencer was trying to mask. he's seen spencer show attraction to a few girls in the years that they've known each other, but with olivia, it was different. on olivia's first day, derek just knew that something would click between her and reid. and if not that day, then eventually. even though olivia is in the circumstances she's in, he couldn't help but to feel a little proud of olivia and spencer. he was never one to admit his feelings, especially romantic ones. he was always shy and awkward around others. but liv brought him out of his comfort zone in the best way possible. morgan could never thank her enough for that. which is why, he, too, wanted to find devin wyatt and make him suffer for what he's doing to olivia and anna.
spencer felt like everything in his life was crumbling apart piece by piece. after all, his worse fears were coming to life. the exact reason why spencer didn't even want to be friends with olivia in the first place was coming to life. he was just starting to believe that maybe, just maybe he wasn't bad luck. that maybe his life was finally going to seem at least the littlest bit joyful. everything about this brought him back to the idea of maeve. this is exactly what he feared would happen. he knew he should've just continued to not be so close to olivia. maybe if he stayed true to his original thought, her and anna would probably be at home, safe, and not fearing for the future of their lives.
"reid, you're not gonna lose her. we're not about to let that happen, i can promise you that." derek told him.
