Naughty Newtin' Niffler

Tegwen stood with a blank expression as one of Mary Lou's three children attempted to hand her a leaflet. Not wanting to be bothered with the foolish propaganda that the foul woman was spewing, she swatted the paper away from her, only to hear the older girl let out an irritated huff. Glancing over at the child, while removing her eyes from the creature for a second, she flashed an apologetic look.

"Sorry, I already have loads of them at home," She told the girl before looking back to the stairs, only to see the creature having a field day among the coins in the beggar man's hat. She saw Newt lunge for it and as Mary Lou's daughter went to see what Tegwen was looking at, the woman quickly shoved the child to the ground, causing the girl to scream out. The crowd became distracted as they looked to see what had caused the child to yell, but Tegwen moved fast away from the scene.

Hurrying up the stairs of the muggle bank, she stopped herself a couple of steps up, debating whether or not to get involved. She took a step back down and paused for a moment. She could easily just walk down the steps and continue on her way to get lunch. Nothing was stopping her, except for the annoying voice at the back of her head, urging her forward. Not to mention, her stomach was cursing her for depriving her of food for so long.

Taking another step down, it seemed her stomach was in control of her actions until a hand rested on her shoulder. She let out a shriek before a hand covered her mouth. Turning her head, she sighed in relief but still could feel her heart pounding in her chest as she identified the person beside her.

"Merlin's beard, Tina, you can't go sneaking up on people like that!" Tegwen told the woman as she placed her hand over her chest and took a deep breath.

"Sorry," Porpentina Goldstein, otherwise known as Tina, flashed her an innocent smile. "I wasn't expecting to see you here, but I'm so glad you are. You saw that...didn't you? That thing...with that man? He's acting rather strange."

"Uh," Tegwen ran a hand through her hair. "I don't know what you're talking about, Tina. I'm actually on my way to lunch, um...you got something on your-

She tried to point out a mustard stain on Tina's upper lip, but Tina grabbed her by the back of her jumper and began moving forward.

"I know you saw it," the woman said pulling her along. "And I'm recruiting you to help me."

"My specialty is Herbology, I'm not an Auror like you, remember? If you're going after someone-"

"I'm not an Auror anymore, remember?" Tina smiled at her.

"Oh dear," Tegwen sighed as she dragged up the stairs and into the bank.

At first, neither woman spotted Newt and Tegwen sighed in relief.

"Oh look, nothing to see here, we should be going-" She tried to leave again, but Tina held her in place.

"There," Tina nodded her head. "There he is."

"I don't see anyone!" Tegwen announced looking everywhere but in the direction of where she saw Newt moving about. He seemed to be inching his way towards something, but she quickly looked away.

"Look with your eyes, Tegwen!"

Tegwen shot the woman a look, causing Tina to become slightly red in the face. "Er...you know what I meant. Just..you can't miss him, I mean, look at him."

The two women were hiding behind a rather large pillar, watching Newt race about in search of the niffler. Tina was right, it was hard to miss the man causing a scene in the bank, which was why she was so curious as to why other people weren't growing suspicious of his actions. What he was doing traveling with a niffler, Tegwen didn't understand, but she didn't want to question it either. She just wanted to get out of there before there was any sort of interaction between them.

"He's probably just an odd fellow, with a very weird looking dog, Tina, no need to get worked up over it. But really, you have something on-"

The two witnessed Newt reach a man and suddenly, Newt disapperated from view, taking the muggle with him.

"Just an odd fellow?" Tina turned to her.

"A rather odd and dumb fellow," Tegwen muttered under her breath. "Tina, I really don't think-"

The alarm in the bank went off, making Tegwen's eyes widen even further. "Son of a banshee, what is he doing?"

Tina took the lead, running to see if the guards were able to get him, but she came back running into view and grabbing Tegwen's hand. She pulled her outside of the bank.

"There," she pointed out Newt standing with the man outside, leaning against a wall.

They could see him wrestling to put the niffler back in the suitcase while the muggle man appeared to be in a state of shock.Suddenly, Tegwen could see Newt pull his wand on the man, figuring he was about to obliviate him to handle the mess, however, the muggle was not going down without a fight as he proceeded to lift his own suitcase and smack Newt upside the head with it.

She let out a happy squeal, clapping her hands together, earning a look from Tina as the muggle man took off.

"What?"Tegwen said. "It was a nice shot."

"Meet me in that alleyway over there, I'll handle this," Tina said before walking off.

Tegwen stood on the step for a minute by herself. "You have mustard on your lip," she said quietly to herself. She began to head in the opposite direction of the alleyway, knowing that Tina was fully capable of handling the situation by herself. All she had to do was get the man to the Woolworth building and everything else would be handled.

"Yes, everything will be just fine," she nodded going to take a step in a different direction when her inner guilt let her stuck in place.  "Why? Why do I have to have a conscious?!"

Upon arriving at the alleyway as Tina had instructed her to do, Tegwen took an extra minute before to cover her face with her hair so that Newt wouldn't recognize her. When she looked at Tina, the other two were just staring at her with bewildered expressions. She was fully aware that she looked absolutely ridiculous in that moment.

"Wh-what are you doing?"

"It's rather chilly, don't you think?" Tegwen said disguising her voice, which sounded just as stupid.

"Uh..." Tina had no clue as to what was going on with her friend. But she didn't want to question it in that moment, she had other matters to attend to, such as taking Mr. Scamander in and locating the No-Maj that had taken off after witnessing far too much. "Alright, we're going."

"So you have this all handled right? No need for me to stick around? Great, that's great. Well, I'll just be on my way to grab some-"

Tina rolled her eyes reaching forward and grabbing Tegwen by the wrist.

"What has gotten into you today?"

"I'm hungry!" Tegwen spat but before she could do anything else, Tina had already taken them from the alleyway.

Arriving on the corner of Broadway, Tegwen stumbled slightly as she landed on the curb. Tina's grip had loosened at the last second, and the woman would have fallen into the street if it weren't for Newt grabbing her by the sleeve.

"Are you alright?" He asked.

The sound of his accent suddenly made her feel like she was back home, it was almost comforting, but when she realized who was speaking, she quickly pulled her sleeve away from him and kept her gaze focused on the ground.

"I'm fine, just fine."

Tina wasted no time in pulling Newt along by his coat, much to Tegwen's relief.

"Come on," the woman said gruffly as Newt seemed to be dragging his feet. He kept turning his head to glance over his shoulder to get a better look at Tegwen, but she had trained herself to operate while keeping her gaze on the ground before her.

"Er, sorry but I have things to do, actually," Newt informed Tina.

Crossing her arms over her chest, Tegwen listened as Tina hassled Newt for information pertaining to his visit in New York. Newt claimed he was there for a birthday present, to purchase an Appaloosa Puffskeins as the only breeder in the world lived in New York.

Tegwen scoffed under her breath as they entered the Woolsworth building as Tina told him they had shut down the breeder because breeding wasn't allowed in New York. She remembered when she had told her fathers about that during one of the Christmases she had traveled home. The two couldn't stop laughing, claiming that MACUSA was way behind and needed to get with the times. She expected them to say that as they weren't fully aware of all the problems the states were facing at the time.

She didn't really tell them either and it was one of the times that she was just thankful that her fathers didn't take interest in the news, instead they busied themselves with their work. Dad was a quidditch referee and Tad brewed some of the finest teas in the area. If the majority of their worries came from a bewitched quaffle or a torn tea bag, Tegwen was sure they could live with that.

Entering the building, it was crowded as usual as witches, wizards and elves went in all sorts of directions.

"Well, I think you've got if from here, Tina, I'll just be going over there-"

"You're a witness!" Tina reminded her. "Now stop fooling around."

Reaching the elevator, Tina pushed Newt and Tegwen inside causing Tegwen to nearly crash into Red, the goblin. Red knew the woman enough to know that she wasn't a talker and instead turned his attention to the newcomer and Tina.

"Hey, Goldstein."

"Hey, Red. Major Investigation Department."

"I thought you was-"

Tegwen made a face as Tina called out the department again in order to drown out the goblin. She peered down to see Red's face and shook her head, warning him not to ask.

When they arrived Tina looked determined until they walked in and were facing Madam President, Seraphina Picquery, herself.  Tina seemed full of confidence until Madam Picquery faced her with an angry glare.

"You are no longer an auror," Madam Picquery announced causing Tegwen to flinch as Tina automatically lost the battle. There was no sense in arguing beyond that point. "Get out."

"Yes, ma'am."

They headed back in the direction of the elevator when Tegwen tugged on Tina's sleeve.

"I should be going," she said in a hushed tone. "I'm-"

"You're a witness, come on, I need you," Tina's voice was begging her.

"I need food."

"I have food...just come with me."

"I swear if you're lying to me..."

Shifting uncomfortably in the elevator, Tegwen was nearly pressing herself against Red in order not to stand so close to Newt. So far, she had been lucky, he made no attempts at having a conversation with her. When they arrived at the dingy closet space called the Wand Permit Office, her stomach let out a huge growl that filled the silence.

Everyone glanced over at the woman until she clapped her hands together and was the first to hurry out of the elevator.

"Food!"

Fortunately, Tina did have a snack bar for her to much on, while she kept herself busying, practically staring at several file cabinets in order to avoid Newt while Tina questioned the man about his wand permit.

"GOLDSTEIN! GOLDSTEIN!" A voice rang out, belonging to the ever pompous and most annoying, Abernathy.

Tegwen grabbed one of the permit papers and held it over her face while Tina ducked down to avoid being seen.

"Goldstein, did-" The man stopped as he noticed Tegwen standing in the corner.

"Ms. Gittins, what are you doing down here? Is she harassing you as well?"

"Gittins?" Newt repeated, his eyes widening.

Tegwen lowered the paper. 'Uh..no, I was just trying to enjoy my lunch in silence and the Wands Permit office seemed to be the best place in the building."

"You wanted to eat lunch down here?" He said with an incredulous look on his face.

"I really like the smell of the paper?" She tried to lie but failed miserably. Everyone was giving her an odd look before she hid her face behind the paper again. "Mmmm...paper." She squeaked.

Abernathy shook his head before his gaze fell back to Tina to question her further.

She peeked over the paper to see Newt staring right in her direction before Abernathy turned to him for questioning.

"Where'd she pick you up?"

"Me?" Newt appeared confused until he looked Tina's direction. She had a desperate look on her face, begging him not to say anything.

The silence was enough for Abernathy to continue on until Mr. Graves arrived.

Tina looked just a little too excited to see the man as she placed the suitcase on the desk as she explained that Newt had brought in a creature that had caused all the commotion at the bank. Mr. Graves glanced in Tegwen's direction as she lowered the permit from her face and stared at the suitcase.

When she realized he was watching, she quickly shoved the rest of the bar into her mouth and made it look like she was trying to say something while pointing at the suitcase. Opening it up, there was a moment of silence before Mr. Graves shot the woman a look.

"Tina..." he sounded highly disappointed before he left the room. Curiosity pulled Tegwen forward to look into the case, only to see pastries settling inside.

Her stomach growled even louder bringing up a very important question.

"Can I eat one of those? Or two?"
