Large and in Charge..and Rather Horny
"Here, let's head down this street," Jacob suggested leading the way through the streets of New York. After watering Freudrick the Plant, Tegwen made sure that the plant would be fine in her absence for she left with the two men. Although, she was awfully tempted to stay behind and just pass out in her bedroom. But Newt had kept his promise to help her, so she figured the least she could do was help the man in return. The sooner she did, the sooner he would be able to leave and her life could return back to normal. Or as normal as it was going to get.
She trailed behind the men, slightly shivering from the cold, winter night air. She wrapped her arms around herself tightly and observed the shops with all the fine China and jewelry around them, completely unaware of Newt stealing glances at her every so often over his shoulder. Her mind was occupied with her plant, trying to figure out what kind it was as she had never come across it in any of her books. The excitement of discovering a new type of plant certainly lifted her spirits and helped her ignore the cold.
Newt thought about offering his scarf to Tegwen as he saw the woman shivering behind them, he would have even offered his coat, but he knew she wouldn't take it from him. She wouldn't even take his hand to help herself off the ground, so it was safe to say she wouldn't accept another kind gesture.
He turned back to Jacob, who was walking beside him. "I was watching you at dinner," he informed the man.
Jacob glanced over at him with a questioning look. "Yeah."
"People like you, don't they, Mr. Kowalski?"
The man looked confused by the sudden question but gave a little shrug. "Oh well..I'm..I'm sure people like you too, huh?"
Newt looked over his shoulder again at Tegwen to see her fumbling about with her coat.
"No, not really. I annoy people."
"Ah," Jacob said unable to come up with a better answer. He glanced back after noting Newt turn around several times to look at Tegwen. "You two know each other...before this whole mess?"
The man kept his voice low to keep Tegwen from hearing their conversation, but Tegwen was already occupied as she was muttering to herself about something.
"We went to school together," Newt told him.
"Aw, that's nice-"
"And I nearly killed her," Newt finished.
"That's not so nice! Why'd you do that?" Jacob questioned.
"It was an accident, one I could have prevented but...it was all my fault."
He gave no further explanation, leaving Jacob wanting to question plenty. But seeing the hurt expression on the man's face, he decided not to pursue it. Newt took it upon himself to change the subject.
"Why did you decide to become a baker?"
Tegwen had narrowed it down to two categories that Little Freud the Hungry could fall under when she crashed right into Newt's back. In a slight daze, the woman looked around, wondering why they had come to a complete and abrupt stop. Following Newt's gaze, Tegwen was able to note all the shiny pieces of jewelry that littered the ground, from diamonds to coins. She raised a brow as Newt followed the pieces and came upon a jewelry store to find his niffler.
Jacob looked to her but she grabbed the man by the sleeve of his coat and pulled him along to follow.
Newt stood in front of the glass peering inside the shop with a look of disbelief.
"Finestra," Newt said holding his wand and breaking the glass so he could enter the shop and chase after the creature. Jacob looked around nervously, knowing that it looked as though the group was robbing the place. He turned to Tegwen to see her watching the act in amusement as the niffler escaped Newt's grasp several times.
"Aren't you going to help him?"
"I mean, I could," Tegwen answered. "But I'm not entirely sure how. I think I'll let him manage this one."
"I guess you have a point there and...you're bleeding!" He pointed out.
Tegwen furrowed her brow before looking to her sleeve, only to see it stained with red. She looked incredibly confused as she didn't remember getting hurt. Pulling out her wand and lifting up her sleeve, Jacob had a worried expression, but it quickly turned to Newt's suitcase that began moving about. One of the locks clicked open while the two magical beings were preoccupied.
With a deep breath, Jacob walked over and closed the latch on the case before letting out a heavy sigh.
"Oh, it's jam!" Tegwen cried out with a laugh. "Freudrick broke a jar of it, must have dipped my sleeve into it. "
The giggling was interrupted as Newt and Niffler crashed through a window, bringing shattered glass to spill everywhere. Newt landed on the ground while the Niffler took off to escape, but Newt raised his wand again.
"Accio!"
The sound of sirens in the distance caused Tegwen to turned her head from the scene.
"Um gentlemen, I think it's best that we get going..." She said turning back, only to see Newt shaking the creature violently to dump all the contents from its pouch. "Quit shaking it like that!"
Newt paused for a moment and looked in her direction, along with the Niffler.
"I am trying to teach him a very valuable lesson, he shouldn't be taking things that do not belong to him," Newt said before the shaking commenced.
"Well, you don't have to shake him to get your point across! There are other ways-"
"Should I tell him to go stand in a corner and make him think about what he's done?"
Jacob looked back and forth as the two argued like a married couple over making decisions with their child. The Niffler seemed grateful as the shaking had come to an end, but they had other matters to attend to.
In a matter of seconds, patrol cars pulled up to where they were, and officers jumped out of the car with their guns drawn.
"They went that way, Officer..." Jacob said pointing in another direction.
"Hands up!" One of the policemen yelled.
Newt shoved the Niffler into his caught while Tegwen raised her hands to the sides of her head. She heard a few squeaks and muffled grunts, only to turn her head and see the Niffler sticking its head out.
"What the hell is that?"
However, they weren't discussing the Niffler but the lion coming from the left of them. She let out her own little squeak and moved behind Newt.
"Lion," Jacob said under his breath.
"You know, New York is considerably more interesting than I'd expected," Newt said in an amused tone. With the police preoccupied with the lion stalking towards them, Newt made a grab for Jacob and Tegwen before disapparating from the scene.
Arriving closer to Central Park, Tegwen crashed to the ground as she slipped on the ice upon their arrival. Rather than attempting to get up right away, the woman just remained on the ground letting out a painful groan.
"Mother of Merlin," she said holding her side.
Newt and Jacob knelt down beside her taking an arm each and helping her up to her feet.
"You're really bad at Side-Along, aren't you?" Newt said with a small hint of a grin. She gave him a look.
"Next time, just allow me to do it, if I do it myself I'm fine, it's when other people do it that-"
"Is that because you're a control freak?" Newt questioned. Her eyes widened and so did Jacob's trying to figure out what the hell Newt was doing, if this was man's way of flirting, he was going about it all wrong.
"Control freak?!" She repeated as Newt walked away from him. "Hey, don't you walk away from me!"
"Sorry, I can't hear you from all the way over here, Twiggy," he called back. Her jaw dropped as she followed after him to argue.
"Yeah, I can definitely see why people would think you're annoying," Jacob sighed with a shake of his head.
Tegwen was about to give Newt a piece of her mind as they crossed over a bridge but she was silenced by the sight of an ostrich running past them looking absolutely terrified. Immediately, Newt didn't waste any time pulling out a helmet and handing it to Jacob.
"Put this on," he instructed the man. Jacob looked to Tegwen but the woman shrugged in response.
"Why...why would I have to wear something like this?"
"Because your skull is susceptible to breakage under immense force," Newt explained casually. He saw Jacob's eyes trail over to Tegwen, wondering why she didn't get one. "And she's incredibly hard-headed."
The sound of rumbling in the distance prevented Tegwen with coming back with a witty response as she and Jacob looked at each other while Newt ran off in a direction.
The zoo was half empty when they arrived on the scene, Newt provided Jacob with a breastplate and instructed the man to place it on as well. The man looked as though he was about to enter a battlefield.
"Now there's nothing for you to worry about," Newt told him.
"Tell me," Jacob began, " has anyone ever believed you when you told them not to worry?"
Newt glanced over in Tegwen's direction, but the woman didn't vouch for him as she folded her arms over her chest.
"My philosophy is that worrying means you suffer twice," he said before they made their way to the entrance of the zoo.
"Why is this creature here?" Tegwen asked.
"She's in season, she needs to mate," Newt explained.
"And she is capable of finding a suitable mate here?"
"I don't think she's all that picky right now," he admitted bringing her to grimace.
In the distance was a massive creature in size, resembling a rhino with a huge horn and a bulging head, the creature had a hippo cornered.
"Oh that poor thing," Tegwen muttered under her breath looking at the poor hippo. Newt pulled out a small vial and pulled the top off with his teeth. "What's that?"
"Erumpent musk...she's mad for it."
The smell was absolutely horrible causing Jacob and Tegwen to gag as the man splashed some on his wrists and handed the bottle to Jacob. He headed in the direction of the beast, in hopes of saving the hippo from a very scarring experience.
They watched as Newt set his case down and oh so seductively, he opened it.
"What in Merlin's beard-" Tegwen's eyes widened as Newt began letting out several loud grunts, wiggling his body, and stomping his feet. He rolled his body about performing the mating ritual of the beast.
"I'm really disturbed right now,' Jacob said. "I don't know how to feel about it." He turned to Tegwen, waiting for her to agree, but the woman had a wide smile on her face as the erumpent turned to face Newt. Newt and the erumpent began to circle each other almost dancing about.
"This..this.." She began only to see Newt roll on the floor and the erumpent copy his actions. Its horn was glowing a bright orange and it rolled closer to the case. "This is probably the most precious thing I've ever seen in my entire life."
She didn't realize that Jacob was going to take a whiff of the container of musk when something jolted out and knocked the musk in his hand, spilling down his front. A wintry breeze passed over them as Tegwen noted a fish on the floor. They looked over to see a seal glancing over in their direction.
However, the Erumpent had taken to the scent and immediately ignored Newt's "advances" her eyes were now set on Jacob.
The Erumpent went racing for him as Jacob took off abandoning Tegwen's side to run. Before she could react and reach for her wand, Tegwen felt a tug on the back of her coat. She turned around as Newt ran after the creature and Jacob, only to see the hippo chomping down on her coat.
"Excuse me, but do you realize how lucky you are? Do you know what could have just happened to you and you want to go and make enemies?!"
She went for her wand again, only to have the hippo push her into the small pool of water. The freezing water felt like pins and needles entering her skin as Tegwen pushed herself to the surface. If she thought she was cold before, there was nothing that could compare to the cold she felt in that moment.
Instantly, her body was reacting to shut down to conserve her body heat, as she pulled herself out. Her hands shook but she kept a firm hold of her wand. Her movements were jagged but she was able to perform the complicated little wave to produce the Hot-Air charm. As soon as her clothes were damp but not freezing, the woman pushed herself up to her feet and looked in the direction of the hippo.
"We should have just let the erumpent have her way with you!" She huffed before running off in the direction where the men were. She heard a loud bang in the distance and continued running when she came upon the lovely display of Potential Erumpent Mating on Ice.
The Erumpent had hit the ice and slipped, skidding towards Jacob, while Newt ran down the hill towards the ice. He slid across with the suitcase open, just in time to swipe across and have the erumpment slide right into the case.
Tegwen sighed in relief and Jacob looked close to passing a bowel movement in his trousers.
"Good show, Mr. Kowalski!" Newt said happily.
"Call me Jacob," the man said before the two shook hands. Suddenly, they heard clapping in the distance. They looked to see Tegwen clapping her hands.
"Take a bow! Encore!" She continued clapping with a cheer.
Jacob smiled and bowed while Newt shook his head with a laugh. They made their way across the frozen lake before meeting up with Tegwen.
"That was amazing!" She said wiping her hands over her face. "If you could have seen it all from where I was standing it was just... Gah!"
"Gah?" Jacob repeated.
"It means she was excited in Twiggy," Newt said before noting Tegwen's damp status and her violent shivering. "What happened to you?"
"Uh...the hippo wanted swimming lessons."
The group laughed before Newt looked around.
"Well, two down, one to go."
He opened up the suitcase and offered Jacob to hop in first. The man went in, this time sucking it in to enter with more ease. Tegwen went to step in when she felt the warmth of Newt's hand grab hers.
"What are you doing?" She asked him, looking up.
"Well, I can't have you go falling," He said. "Now come on, down you go."
She thought about protesting but instead used to his hand and climbed down the steps until she was in fully.
