𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐈𝐌𝐋𝐘 𝐋𝐈𝐓 𝐑𝐎𝐎𝐌 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐑 𝐃𝐎𝐑𝐌, Jane leaned against the pillar of Mal's bed, a shadow of doubt clouding her face. Mal lay sprawled on her bed, lazily sketching in her notebook, while Evie hummed softly, stitching away at a new dress. Elizabeth sat beside Evie at the table, doodling absently, occasionally glancing up with a small smile.
"Mom said, if a boy can't see the beauty within, then he's not worth it." Jane spoke sadly, sighing. "Can you believe it? What world does she live in?"
Mal let out a laugh, "Auradon."
"Mal, do you like?" Evie asked, holding up the dress she was working on. As she held it up, Elizabeth looked at it in awe, running a hand along it.
Mal looked up from her notebook, nodding. "Yeah, it's cute. Brings out your eyes."
"I know." Evie smiled back.
Going over and sitting down on Evie's bed, Jane sighed as she continued. "I'll never get a boyfriend."
"Boyfriends are overrated." Mal replied, causing Evie to raise a brow.
"And how would you know, Mal?" Evie questioned. "You've never had one."
Mal looked up at Evie, rolling her eyes. "It's 'cause I don't need one, E. They're a waste of time."
Sitting up in her seat, Elizabeth shrugged. "Yeah, but it's nice sometimes. To have someone there for you." Elizabeth said, closing her notebook and looking over at Mal. Jane nodded, pointing at Elizabeth.
"See, she gets it!" Jane sighed. "So, what was he like? Was he short? Was he tall?" Jane began listing, continuing on as she wondered what it'd be like.
Elizabeth laughed, shaking her head. "He was. . . charming. And surprisingly, really sweet. Not what you'd expect from a guy like him."
Before they could ask more, Evie gasped suddenly, clutching her head. "Oh no, Chad's homework! I completely forgot!" She scrambled to grab her backpack. "This is not good; I promised I'd help him!"
Mal raised an eyebrow, leaning back with a smug grin. "And that, Evie, is exactly what I'm talking about. This is why boyfriends are a waste."
As Evie hurried to find Chad's assignment, there was a light knock on the door. A girl in a pink and blue dress, her short, dark hair bouncing with each step, peeked in with a bright smile. "Hi, guys! I'm Lonnie. My mom's, um, Mulan?"
Everyone stayed quiet as they looked at the girl, Evie dropping the backpack to the floor as she took out Chad's binder. "No? Anyways, I love what you've done with Jane's hair. And I know you hate us and well, you're evil. But do you think you could do mine?"
"Why would I do that for you?" Mal questioned.
"I'll pay you 50 dollars." Lonnie replied, holding up a sack with coins in it. Immediately, Elizabeth stood from her seat, grabbing he sack out her hands with a smile and a small hum.
Smiling, Elizabeth looked over at Mal. "Great answer." Elizabeth smiled, "Evie and I need to buy more materials."
Evie nodded as well, standing up and placing a hand on Lonnie's shoulder. "Let's see, I'm thinking, we lose the bangs, maybe some layers, and some highlights!"
"Yeah, yeah. I want it cool." Lonnie interrupted, looking over at Mal. "Like Mal's."
Evie furrowed her brows, looking over at Mal as she looked up at the three girls. "Really? The split ends, too?"
Mal threw her pencil down, glaring at Evie. Looking as if she was ready to decline, Elizabeth smiled, shaking the sack of coins. Rolling off her bed with a scoff, Mal grabbed her spell book. Sitting back down on the bed, Mal opened the book as she placed her finger on the page.
"Beware, forswear, replace the old with cool hair." Mal read out before closing the book and flicking her finger — watching as Lonnie's hair immediately grew out. Going over to in front of the mirror, Lonnie touched at the hair, Evie coming beside her and placing her hands on her shoulders.
Nodding, Evie sighed. "I know. I know. It looks like a mop on your head. You know what? Let's cut it off. Layer it . . ."
"No, no, no, no. I love it."
"You do?" Elizabeth questioned, walking up to the other side of her.
"It's just. . ." Lonnie trailed off.
Looking down, Lonnie took her hands and gripped onto her skirt, ripping it down the side. "Now I'm cool."
"Like ice."
Jane then walked up to the mirror, standing in front of Lonnie, Evie and Elizabeth. Hesitating for a second, Jane grabbed onto her dress, ripping it as well before she gasped. "What did I just do? Mom's gonna kill me!"
The four girls laughed at Jane's instant regret.
Jay exclaimed as he came into the dorm room where Elizabeth, Mal, Evie and Carlos all gathered. Doing multiple poses, Jay showed off his tourney jersey. Carlos nodded with a whistle, laughing at Jay.
"Did your plan work with Jane?" Jay questioned as he leaned against Mal's bed pillar, looking down at her as she flipped through her spell book. "You going over to see the wand?"
Mal looked up, glaring at him. "Do you think that I would be going through every single spell in this book if I hadn't completely struck out?"
"Someone's in a bad mood." Carlos muttered, causing Elizabeth who was sitting on the floor beside him to hit his arm. "What?" Carlos whispered, shrugging.
Mal looked down at him, shaking her head. "My mom's counting on me! I can't let her down!" Mal replied, flicking Carlos' head.
"We can do this. . ." Jay said, standing back up straight. "If we stick together."
Everyone looked over at Jay, quietly taking in what he had said. "And we won't go back until we do." Mal replied, looking around at the others. "Because we're rotten. . ."
"To the core." Everyone finished.
Evie then nodded, "Oh, yeah. I found out that Fairy Godmother blesses Ben with the wand at coronation and we all get to go. I have nothing to wear of course." Evie sighed, the other's looking at her with raised brows.
"What?" Evie questioned, looking at Mal who sat with her jaw dropped.
Just then, there was a knock on the door, Elizabeth getting up from the floor. Opening the door, Elizabeth's eyes widened to see Ben — a smile plastering on his face when he saw her. "Hey, Lizzie." Ben smiled.
"Ben, hi."
"I didn't see you guys today. I was just wondering if you had any questions or anything that. . . you needed?" Ben questioned, looking at Elizabeth, then the others now standing a little ways behind her.
Looking back at the others, Elizabeth slowly shook her head. "Not that I know of."
"Okay! All right. Well, uh, if you need anything, just. . ." Ben stammered, backing up from the door. Mal nudged Elizabeth's shoulder, causing her to look at her, seeing her brows raised.
Quickly, Elizabeth looked back at Ben. "Oh. Wait!" Elizabeth said quickly holding her hand out, causing Ben to walk back up to the door. "Um, is it true that we all get to go to your coronation?" Elizabeth questioned.
"Yeah, the whole school goes." Ben smiled, nodding his head as he stood with his hands held together in front of his chest.
"That is just, beyond exciting. Okay!" Elizabeth smiled, a mix of both real and fake excitement in her voice. "Do you think it'd be possible that the five of us could stand in the front row next to the Fairy Godmother, just so we could really soak up all that goodness?"
Ben sighed, holding his hands out before clapping them back together. "You know, I really wish you could. Up front it's just me, my folks and my girlfriend."
"And your girlfriend?" Elizabeth repeated.
Ben nodded. "Yeah, I'm sorry."
"Okay, yeah. Thanks!" Elizabeth said, quickly closing the door despite Ben's attempt at talking. Elizabeth turned around with a sigh to face the other's; a smile plastered on Mal's face.
"I think it's time that Bennyboo got himself a new girlfriend." Mal smirked.
