A Chapter| Chapter Twenty Five

sorry for the minor spoiler but i'm sick of getting hated on. LILA DOES NOT STAY PREGNANT. the entire reason i put this part in was to show how serious protection is because i've seen a lot of people talking about the pull out method, which is just as dangerous and not completely accurate. i'm not a fan of pregnancy plots either and that's not at all what this is, it's barely mentioned before lila has a miscarriage, another thing that i wanted to talk on because from a young age i've seen my mother have two and it's affected her, as well as me, even now, years later. i try to include important topics in my books to help educate the readers that might not be getting that form of knowledge at home or within schools. so, im very sorry for the spoiler for those of you that were planning to stay, but getting rude comments criticizing me and my writing, as well as throwing a fit saying they are gonna stop reading is really upsetting to read because i just wanted to include something that i have had to experience into a book to hopefully help prevent for others as well as showing how important it truly is.thank you.

"You get any sleep?" JJ asked as he joined Lila on the porch, guilt in his eyes as he messed with his pockets.

"No, not really." Lila answered honestly as she nodded for him to join her, a sad smile.

"Worried?" the blonde boy asked as Lila nodded.

"More then worried.." she trailed off, picking at her fingers.

"Rafes a idiot." JJ spoke as Lila sighed.

"JJ-" she began before he cut her off.

"No, don't start with the whole I don't understand thing. I don't understand, not in the way you do but anyone that leaves the girl he so called loves, especially if it's you, is a idiot, he's a coward."JJ spoke as the both of them stared out at the trees, staying quiet for Kie and Pope, who were still sleeping inside.

"Yeah." Lila said, because she agreed, because she knew he was right, "I know you're right."

And it was silent, the only noise of the early birds chirping and chickens from a few neighbors over. Lilas mind was racing of her boyfriend and her two best friends who she had no clue if were safe. While JJ bounced his leg, guilt building up in him to tell her what he knew.

"Hey, uh, Lila?" he asked as she hummed, glancing over at him, "Look, it's not a big deal at all, really so don't panic."

"What did you do?" Lila asked as she turned to make eye contact with a worried look, watching as he slowly pulled his hands from his pocket.

"You went through my bag?" Lila asked as she yanked the stick from him, hiding it under her leg quickly as if he hadn't already looked at it.

"No, no, I did not go through your bag-" he began before he cut himself off, "Okay I kinda did."

Lila sighed as she put her head in her hands, thinking as if things couldn't get worse, JJ now knew something she was trying to hide.

"What are you gonna do?" JJ asked her as Lila stayed silent, "Do you- does he know?"

"No, he doesn't know... no one does." Lila said as she slowly exhaled while turning to look at him again, dread and humiliation in her eyes, "It's not like i'm gonna keep it. It was an accident, i'm just waiting until we're not all on the run."

"I won't tell no body." he said as Lila gave him a look of disbelief.

"Don't pogues have to tell each other everything?" she asked, holding the positive stick under her leg.

"Yeah, we do." he stated as she gnawed at the side of her mouth, "But I think this can be a exception."

"What do you think I should do?" Lila asked him honestly,, "Honestly?"

"I can't tell you what to do with your body, Lila." JJ stated as Lila shut her eyes with a shaky sigh, "But whatever you decide.... I'll support you."

"Really?" Lila asked with a sad laugh as JJ grinned.

"Yeah, who else is gonna look out for the flower child?" JJ asked as he scooted closer as the two laughed.

"Thank you, JJ." Lila said as she gave him a tight lipped smile as he nodded in a welcome, "I wish I could say I know how Rafes gonna react."

"No one ever knows how Rafes ever gonna react." JJ started as Lila agreed, biting at her chapped lips.

"Sometimes I wish there was a way to do things differently." Lila stated at JJ gave her a confused look, "Change the way my story went."

"How would you change things?" he asked as Lila sighed and turned her head, opening her mouth before she was cut off.

"Guys?" Popes voice spoke up, standing at the doorframe before Lila could answer, "See anything?"

"Nothing, just the average bird couple passing by to mock their perfect lives." Lila said as she stood to her feet, tucking the test into her back pocket.

"He's pinched for sure, man." JJ said with a sigh as he flicked the lighter in his hand.

"No, they wouldn't still be patrolling if they caught him." Pope stated with a shake of his head as Kie and Lila made eye contact.

"You know, we were in that car, they're probably looking for us too." Kie stated as Lila sighed stressfully, running a hand through the greasy locks.

"Well, if we're gonna be outlaws we might as well help John B." Pope said, surprising Lila at his sudden courage to break the law.

"So, find him before they do?" JJ questioned with raised eyebrows, "Pope?"

"I'm gonna get gas for the boat." the darker boy stated as he grabbed the keys.

"Hey, you be carful. Okay?" Kie asked softly to him as Pope stared at her.

"Meet me at the dock at three. Don't be late." Pope stated, ignoring Kie completely as he looked back at JJ. Lila looked to Kie confused as she scoffed and following him outside.

"Come on." JJ nodded for Lila to follow as the two waited on the porch, watching Kie attempt to talk to Pope but failing miserable before he speed off. The sound of helicopters were heard as the three looked up seeing one lower to the ground.

"Who the hell is that?" JJ spoke up as Lila crossed her arms over her body.

"Home sweet home." JJ stated as they pulled up to his house, the same one he'd told Lila to stay far away from multiple times.

"Do you want me to come? Because i'll come." Kie stated as she looked at JJ in the passengers seat while Lila unbuckled her seatbelt from the back.

"Nah, this will only take a second." the blonde boy stated as Lila shot over the seat to grab his arm with a worried look.

"You sure you wanna do this?" she asked him worried as he nodded.

"It'll be fine." JJ stated, hiding his emotions, despite her seeing them completely before shutting the door with two final forced smiles.

"You sure you don't wanna go see your moms?" Kie asked Lila as she distracted herself from worrying about JJ.

"I wanna see my moms more than anything." Lila stated as Kie gave her a sad look, "But they wouldn't get it, all they'd see is what Ward has already told them and then that would just get me on the wrong side, and I can't be on the wrong side ever again."

"You never were on the wrong side." Kie said as Lila laughed sadly while looking down.

"Yeah, aside from the fact that I'm
a idiot and in love with a guy who physically hurt all my friends... ten points for Lila." she said with a sigh and avoided eye contact until Kie reached back and grabbed her hand.

"You're human, humans do what they want no matter what because we can't always help it. Non of us would be sane right now if you hadn't come to the obx... you know that?" Kie asked as Lila gave her a sad smile, squeezing the girls hands.

"Thanks Kie." she said with the slightest bit of break in her voice but squeezing her hand back harder.
