Chapter 7: Judgements
Mirae eyed each one of them, as they gaze at her with hopeful eyes. Here goes nothing.
"I'm not being bias here, just honest criticism. Well, let's start with Hoseok." She initiated. "I don't see much mistakes, instead, I saw passion and perfection with the way you dance. No wonder you're the main dancer of the group. I can tell that you're very strict when it comes to dancing, which is good. Keep up the good work." And Hoseok felt relieved and thankful.
"Thank you, Mirae! I'll work harder." He beamed, in which was returned with a nod from her.
"Now, let's move to Seokjin." She then took a deep breath before facing the male. "I can see some mistakes that are occasionally done, however, I'm impressed on how you smoothly fit in during the process. Sometimes you're off beat, but all in all, you've done a great job. I admire your determination in dancing, you're amazing. Keep on practicing and I'm sure that you'll improve even more."
"Thank you, Raeya." Seokjin smiled. "I'll take note of that."
"You're welcome, Jin. Now, let's move to Yoongi." She now gazed on him. "You have the moves and groove in you, but I do understand that it's not what you're fond of. Just keep that consistent performance level and you'll do great." She uttered, and Yoongi felt delighted to hear a compliment from her.
"Thanks, Raeya. I'll remember that." He nodded in satisfaction.
"Okay, next is Jimin. Just like the old times, you are still fluid and smooth with your movements. I like how your expressions matched the dance, and also how you pour your efforts into it. Keep that attitude in performing, and you know the rest." She then gave him a knowing smile and a wink, that he reciprocated with a chuckle and thumbs-up.
"What about me, noona?" Jungkook excitedly asked, his innocent, doe eyes are pleading.
"You're one talented maknae, Jungkookie." Mirae spoke. "Your movements are quite powerful, but I love how it matches every beat. You look pretty adorable in my eyes, though the dance is somewhat intimidating." She chuckled, which made the youngest blush from the compliment.
"Me next!" Taehyung exclaimed, raising his arm.
"Your skills are outstanding for someone who is not part of the dance line. You can cope perfectly and your expressions are on point. Your aura is complimenting the song, which makes you attractive while you dance. I'm pretty sure you'll soon be part of the dance line if you keep on working hard." She encouraged with a kind smile.
"Don't worry, noona! I'll be part of that line too." He nodded in determination, receiving a chuckle from Mirae.
Now, Mirae faced Namjoon, who gulped nervously, yet still kept his poise. Hesitantly, Mirae smiled awkwardly at him.
"Not being offensive but...." She paused. "You're aggressive." She frankly said, which totally offended Namjoon.
"What do you mean?" He asked, behind his black glasses are furrowed brows.
"Well, some of the movements that don't require much power, you executed it aggressively. You're off beat sometimes, including the subtle mistakes that are low-key noticeable. Just practice a little moreβ" But she was cut by Namjoon.
"Are you telling me that I'm the worst?" He irritably asked, which startled her a bit.
"You didn't even let me finish. What I'm saying is thatβ" However, Namjoon felt completely humiliated in front of his co-trainees, especially someone unprofessional is the one giving the reviews.
"No! You don't know how much I've been through just to reach this point. Not because you're some kind of assistant choreographer, you can always be right with your judgements." He spat out as he breathe heavily, as if the burden was now passed on Mirae.
"With all due respect, Mr. Kim Namjoon." Mirae coldly stated and that was something the other members suddenly realised, she looks scary and intimidating. "Stop acting as if I degraded your whole existence with what I've said. Don't act like a child, this is not daycare." She nonchalantly said, making Namjoon stiff. "First of all, I'm not the one who applied in this position, I was scouted. Second, I may not be professionally licensed, but atleast I have the experience of a professional choreographer. Third, I hate it whenever someone halts me while I'm speaking, so learn to show respect. Lastly, I was about to tell you that I'm still impressed on how expressive you are while dancing, that made you look charismatic, but now I felt like you don't deserve that compliment." She ranted before walking away to the corner where her things are.
Namjoon was left dumbfounded while staring at her back. He would lie if he says he wasn't intimidated, but his pride is still telling him to ignore it so he went to the other corner. The members just watched them with mouths slightly agape. After a few minutes of awkward silence, Jimin and Yoongi decided to walk over where Mirae is currently sitting. She's checking her phone after receiving a text message from her classmate. When she saw the two approaching, she set her phone aside to accommodate them.
"Uhm, noona." Jimin called in which she responded with a hum. "We're sorry in Namjoon-hyung's behalf for what happened."
"You don't have to apologize for something you didn't do, Jimin." She blankly, yet still kindly, said.
"He wasn't really like that. Maybe he was just tired from the practices." Yoongi sighed. "Also, we only have a week left before our debut, he's just being tensed. He's been waiting for this day to come ever since he started his training, so I hope you just let it pass." He timidly asked while glancing back at Namjoon, who is busy with stretching.
"Tiredness will never be an excuse to be disrespectful." She stoically spoke, staring at Namjoon. "All of you are tired, it's obviously seen, but did any of you complained when Sungdeuk-nim scolded you for not giving your best? No, right? Right!" She answered aloud, and the other members gulped as they glance at Namjoon, whose jaw is protruding as he stiffly stood in front of the mirror.
That sight made Mirae smirk, knowing what Namjoon's real deal is on why he's being like that towards her. She's a kind-hearted person, but she also knows how to defend herself when someone's degrading her.
"If you're all really eager to debut as wonderful artists, you should learn to accept honest criticisms. You're not going to perform at some small parties, but in front of audiences while being on the stage." She spoke while glancing at each, and lastly, staring at Namjoon. "And you should always be ready to accept criticisms, because you'll receive more hurtful comments from more unprofessional people, sooner or later." And that softly left her lips, which made Namjoon sigh.
She's right, and Namjoon knows that. People can leave bad comments to them, with or without their consent. Probably, even worse than what she told him. Somehow, guilt exalts in Namjoon as he gaze at her, who is now busy talking to Hoseok about the choreography. She's not a professional, but she knows how to be one. She may not know what he had gone through, but she knows what he'll be facing soon. Maybe he judged her too soon. Maybe he was wrong to even think she'll never be more of what they need. And maybe, he was just seeking for something that she only gives to the other trainees. But, what is that?
