Chapter 2: Iced Americano

"Good morning, sir! The usual?" Mirae asked with her signature dimpled smile to the regular customer, who nodded in agreement.

With that said, Mirae diligently brewed the coffee that the customer usually requests. It was her daily routine. Work at the cafΓ© in the morning and proceed to studying in the afternoon after her shift. It was a good thing that she's just attending online classes because she could work without any problems with it. After all, living alone in an apartment while paying bills is what she regularly experience for the past four years of her life. After sealing the cup, she handed it to the customer with tissues and creamer.

"Thank you, sir. Have a nice day!" She cheered gleefully, that never failed her customers to be fond of. With that said, when she checked his payment, a tip was given to her just as always.

The next customer went in line and just like before, Mirae greeted him with a smile.

"Good morning, sir! What can I get for you today?" She asked to the male who quietly eyed the menu before returning his feline eyes to the girl who is patiently waiting.

"Iced Americano, please." He simply said, noticing it's what fits his budget the most and that it suits his tastes.

"Would you want it to be to-go or dine in?" She asked while jotting down his order in a receipt.

"To-go, please. Thank you."

And with that, she worked swiftly as she noticed how the line starts to add its length with the regular and non-regular customers she has. While the barista is busy, the male checked his wallet to prepare for his payment. However, this must be an unfortunate day for him because the money he has wasn't enough to pay for the coffee. He was sure that he has enough money a while ago, until he remembered that his co-trainee asked for a few. It made him panic that he didn't notice the female already heading towards him to serve his coffee. Meanwhile, Mirae noticed the panic of her customer which made her worry.

"Is everything alright, sir?" She asked, and the male could not lift his head to face her from the embarrassing situation. He cannot just cancel it, the coffee is already in front of him.

"I-I... Uhm... I checked my wallet... And I-I don't have enough money..." He confessed timidly while sliding all the money he has on the table, towards the barista. "I'm really sorry, I forgot that I spent some of my money-" But he was cut momentarily by Mirae's words.

"It's okay, sir, I understand. Don't worry, it's on me." She kindly offered to the male, who was surprised at her sudden gestures.

"N-No. I'll pay for it-"

"I insist. Besides, it would be rude to decline an offer, right?" She softly smiled and it indeed made the male blush at the kindness he's receiving from such stranger.

"Thank you so much for your kindness... Mirae." He said after checking her name pin located evidently on her apron. "I'll come back and make sure to repay your kindness. Mark me as your new regular customer." He smiled, his gums were evident and it made Mirae smile even more before writing something on a paper.

"You're welcome, sir. Have a good day!" She greeted, and the male greeted back before leaving the female to attend her new customers.

Even though it was to-go, the male decided to look for a vacant seat and settle himself there. He then placed his coffee on the table, but something caught his attention. There was a small sticky note on the opposite side of the cup, so he took it. It confused him until he saw what was written on it.

"Smiling suits you well, so continue to flaunt it! Fighting! - MR"

It made the male grin unconsciously as he glance back to the kind barista, busy with the orders but her smile never left her lips. With that sight, the male took out his notepad and pen to write down his thoughts and ideas. It was indeed the right choice that he considered entering this cafΓ© for coffee. It was like, something is pulling him inside the moment he saw a glimpse of it. And he didn't regret anything, especially meeting a girl like her.

"Where have you been, hyung? I was about to ask you about the lyrics that I wrote." Namjoon asked to his co-trainee whom he had been with for the past year.

"I went to a cafΓ© to buy some coffee." He smilingly answered, lifting the cup with his hand to show the younger, who hummed in response. "I also wrote something, so check it as well."

However, something is oddly strange. Namjoon noticed that the other male is happily staring at his cup of coffee, that's actually not so special on Namjoon's behalf.

"You look happy today, huh?" Namjoon teased which made the older to chuckle as he remembered his embarrassing story with the kind barista.

"You know that cafΓ© I went to, it serves really good coffee. You should visit it when you have time."

"Really, hyung? Where is that cafΓ©?" Namjoon queried while checking the other's notes. "Hey, these are so nice! Woah, Yoongi-hyung, these can be added to our album!"

"Thanks. The cafΓ© really gave me a lot of ideas and inspiration. By the way, it's located two blocks away from the company building. It's just small and simple, but I assure you that you'll feel comfortable there."

"Don't worry, I'll visit the cafΓ© later this afternoon. I want to see what made you so happy after leaving that cafΓ©." Namjoon smirked but Yoongi just scoffed and left the male, who is chuckling at his hyung's blushing face.

Afternoon came and as promised, Namjoon is preparing to leave the company building to visit the cafΓ©. He indeed needed a drink to keep him awake. Awake in the middle of the sun rising, if you may conclude. As he ascends to the address written on a piece of paper given by Yoongi, he notices how nice and quiet the neighbourhood is. And finally, he arrived to the almost filled cafΓ© and the bell rang once he entered inside. The aroma of the coffee beans scented the room, and the vintage vibe of the interiors suits him well as he loves the comfortable feeling of it. It does feel homey, and the fact that it says in the name of the cafe.

"Good afternoon, sir! Welcome to El Casa De CafΓ©. May I take your order?" The bubbly female asked as Namjoon quietly scanned the menu.

"One Iced Americano, please." He politely said and the girl jotted it down. "I'll drink it here as well." He added and received a nod from the barista.

"One Iced Americano, coming right up!" And the girl made her way to the bar to make Namjoon's order.

While doing so, Namjoon roamed his eyes around to examine the place once again. There was nothing fancy nor special, but it does give off comfort. However, his survey was put in halt when a little boy suddenly appeared beside him. Tiptoeing to reach atleast the counter, he succeeded and his eyes were searching until he called the attention of the barista who is currently walking towards them.

"Hyeonie-noona, where is Aeya-noona?" The boy curiously asked in which the barista frowned sympathetically.

"Her shift was already done two hours ago, Hangyeol. Why don't you come back again tomorrow a little early?" The 'Hyeonie-noona' answered, that made the boy's gleam to fade. "By the way, here's your order, sir! That'll be β‚©7,000."

Namjoon paid his drink and thanked the barista before looking for a vacant seat. He found one near the huge glass window where he can see the passers-by going to their whereabouts. However, his attention was taken when he saw the same boy at the counter, sitting at the seat next to his table. He was accompanied by the barista and she left him with a cup of chocolate with a piece of pastry, before leaving him to go back to work.

"But we promised to drink hot chocolate together today..." Hangyeol mumbled like a brokenhearted teenager, even though he looks in between nine to ten years old. "If only Aeya-noona was here, she would probably praise me with my clothes."

That's when Namjoon noticed the little boy's attire. He's wearing a decent button-up blue shirt and denim shorts. He sat there, alone and sulking, so Namjoon decided to go and sit with him. It's a risky idea, but he couldn't see himself letting the boy grow sadder.

"Hello. May I sit with you?" Namjoon kindly asked, but the boy looked at him with suspicion. "Don't worry, I'm here to drink my coffee as well. It seems that you don't have anyone with you, so I thought you would like some company?"

"But that seat is for Aeya-noona." He stated and right before Namjoon could answer, a call from a feminine voice caught their attention.

"What are you doing?" The voice questioned and the boy looked behind Namjoon's shoulder.

Intrigued, Namjoon spun around only to see a familiar pair of eyes. His eyes were fixated on hers, as they both stare at each other.

"What are you doing? Why are you talking to my brother?" She repeated, and Namjoon blinked as he realized it's the barista so he bowed in apology.

He went back to his seat and continued to drink his coffee with a little bit of embarrassment in his face. On the other hand, the barista eyed him before going back to the counter. For sure, she'll tell her bestfriend slash co-worker, Mirae, that a weirdo just made her day even weirder.
