THREE PERSONALITY TRAITS →

Inquisitive - Lue always wants to know how something works, or why it acts the way it does, and isn't shy about asking someone to get answers. Her questions are blunt at times, but they show her keen mind and vast knowledge that she attained from books. This also applies to when she meets a new person. She will ask them all sorts of questions, some of them might coming out rude, but she's simply curious and doesn't mean them to.

Learned - Lue never attended school, her family being too poor to afford it, but her father taught her how to read, and that was enough for her. Although she herself doesn't own any books, wherever she had been employed as a nursemaid, she borrowed many books from them and spent all of her free time reading. Everything interested her, from the maths, to the sciences, to history, to fiction and poetry. It is all from books that her vast knowledge comes from.

Rash - Lue tends to do and say things before really thinking them through. She lets her emotions get the better of her, be them positive or negative ones. For example, she once slapped a male in the face for looking at her a little too long. She also, more than once, has hugged or kissed people who are merely strangers out of delight. Her rashness also causes her to get into many scrapes. A few times, she has tried to conduct a scientific experiment that she  read about in books, but doesn't make sure that she takes all of the safety precautions before she does so. Her charred apron is proof of that.

THREE LIKES →

Books - In Lue's opinion, books are the greatest gift given to mankind. She never gets bored of them, and can literally spend all day reading one. She finds them all fascinating, no matter if the book is about mythology, philosophy, or mechanics. She treats them with more respect than she does people.

Answers - Lue needs answers to everything, and she won't stop until she gets them. Even if it means doing something herself, like conducting an experiment, or taking apart a pocket watch and putting it back together. She's never satisfied when people tell her only half answers, or even not to worry her pretty head over it, and will find them out herself.

Activity - Lue always needs to be doing something any point of the day. It's not so hard for her, because she's usually always reading or thinking, even if the latter isn't obvious to people. This leads her to never being bored, because she will always make sure to find something to do, whether it's indeed reading, or writing down her thoughts about something, or getting into one of her countless scrapes.

THREE DISLIKES

Not being taken seriously - Because she's a female, as well as a female from the lower class, many people don't tend to take Lue seriously. They always tell her to just do her job as a nursemaid, to sew, and bake, and look pretty. It infuriates her to no end that that's all that people thing females are good for.

Crass people - Lue can't stand people who lack sensitivity towards others, as well as refuse to see something from someone else's point of view, even when they're clearly wrong. Many scientists and famous people who she has read about were able to avoid blunders, both big and small, by admitting that they were wrong.

Arrogance - Many times, Lue find those who are arrogant the most unlearned and unaccomplished people. She then wonders what makes them so arrogant, since in her eyes, they have nothing to be proud of and make them feel that they're better. And even those who have accomplished a lot, it doesn't give them an excuse to let it go to their heads.

HOBBIES →

Reading

Conducting experiments of all different types

Writing down her thoughts

Figuring out how things work

FAMILY LIFE → Lues's family is very poor, living in a decrepit two room house for six people. Ever since she was nine years of age, she has been going out to different upper class families, and has worked as their nursemaids. It is from those people that she borrows books from, never too shy to ask. Despite their extreme poverty, the Leland family is happy and always optimistic. When Cedric Crestwell arrived at their house, and laid out his proposition, Lue agreed, not for the exquisite gowns and lavish balls she was told about, but for the chance to marry a wealthy man. She would then be able to help support her family.

OTHER → Many, many people have told Lue that she's too smart for her own good. She takes it as a compliment.
