Chapter 8

I expected changes, but only assumed life would still be normal. I suppose I should already be used to life, the ups- the downs.. The high, and the lows.. The constant changes, and twist for seeming to appear randomly- with no real reasoning. Yet, I doubt I will ever expect, the unexpected. Even if I were to, where would the fun be in that?

As we walked to the woman's home, she was rather silent. Even her own steps seemed to be quiet. As if no sound was even emitting from her.

Personally, I didn't mind my steps. Not that I was being loud on purpose, but I saw no reasoning to do so. It wasn't like anyone was following us, or so I believed. I looked behind myself many times to make sure of this, but I still saw nothing. As I looked around, I noticed many people inside of their homes. Some stood at the windows seeming to stair at the woman and I. Some seemed to have faces of disgust, others seemed to be intrigued in what they saw. As if we were interesting in some way. Some even seemed to be hiding behind their curtains as they watched. tried to act as if I didn't notice, but this was an obvious mask that even a small child could notice.

It began to rain gently, "ÀŒ¡çâ řâç¡Œ," The woman whispered quietly. Instantly, metal appeared over both of our heads. It appeared in a rectangle-like shape, but was bent at the ends working as an umbrella of sorts. "We'll be there soon, this'll work in the meantime," She said, breaking the silence.

"Oh, okay,'' I said looking up at the metal plate.

The woman turned right, walking down a small paved path that ended at a large structure. It was made of steel and was dome in shape. Yet, near the top, there seemed to be a metalic tree spreading out.

"This is your home?!" I asked surprised.

The woman nodded. "Yes, this is it," She responded.

"Wow, it looks really cool," I said looking at it. It definitely wasn't anything you'd see on a stroll through town. It looked more like a sculpture that would have taken many years to create than a home.

"I'm glad you like it," She said smiling slightly, still walking towards the structure. When we eventually reached the structure the woman turned to a large rock. The rock was very smooth and light grey in color. It was an oval like shape, but was placed on an angle. "ĶŒni Jeâס," The woman whispered. The odd boulder then begins to float about ten feet (3.048 meters) in the air. A key floats out from underneath it then appears and goes into a lock that was placed in an odd looking hole under a different stone. It turns, then a sound of metal on metal is heard. Then, slowly a door appears, slowly opening.

"Well- that's one way to open a door," I muttered looking at the door that was slowly opening.

"Indeed," She responded walking into the entrance. I quickly followed, not wanting to get wet.

Once we walked inside, the metal we were using as an umbrella disappeared. As if it was never even there.

I looked back to see if the door had shut, it had. Even on this inside it seemed hard to tell there was a door there. There was no imprint, or even an indent from where it would be outlined.

As we walked down the hallway, lights began to flicker on. Seeming to be motion centered. An intercepted hallway came next. Two rooms sat across from each other, both having chalkboards with a name on each. The first, the one to the left- read, "Steven," In a messy like handwriting. One that'd seem like a younger child would have made. The right read, "Mom," but this handwriting was much neater. Seeming to be made by a parent. It was cursive, and seemed to stand out among the others.

In the middle of the two rooms, there sat a clock. It seemed older, and made of a dark wood. It was mainly rectangular in shape, but had a curved like top. The actual clock-like object sat under the curved section. Under the actual clock, was a golden stick. At the end of the stick it looked to be circular. The golden section was at constant movement. Going from right, to left. The clock read, 9:45.

"Steven should be sleeping by now, so we'll have to be quiet," The woman whispered, as she looked over at the left door.

I nodded, "Okay, I'll try," I whispered.

"We have a guest room you can stay in while you're here. It's large and furnished, so it should be habitable until then," She said walking down the hallway.

"That sounds- perfect. Thanks," I whispered, following them.

She didn't respond, and continued to head left from the original hallway, walking past many doors. The interior seemed just as metallic as the outside, every step sounded as if I was stepping on a metal floor. Yet, the inside didn't look very metallic. It looked more wooden than anything.

The woman then stopped at a door. "You'll be staying here for your stay," She said, then opening the door.

The inside of the room looked rather normal. It had a twin sized bed, and the sheets were a light blue. The walls appeared the same as the rest of the house, it being a fake wood. It had white carpet that appeared to have been vacuumed that very day. Even having a dresser set off next to the bed. There was a wooden desk in the corner, yet this looked like it was made of actual wood. It was a lighter color than the fake wood, and it looked rather fancy, as if a famous poet like Shakespere himself, would have sat down to work on their next masterpiece. On top of the desk was a shock to behold, the one object that had started the entire mess... The spell book.

"You knew where it was?" I asked, looking over at the book. The book still seemed rather large like it had been earlier, but it seemed like it had gotten smaller, as if done specifically to have helped me carry it.

"I did, the hiding place wasn't too difficult to find. Honestly, it was a rather terrible place to hide it," She said, sounding as if I had done some sort of crime by doing something ever so simple as that.

"In my defense I did it in the heat of the moment, I wasn't thinking much. More of just running," I said shrugging.

She nodded slightly, seeming to understand but not care enough to respond to this answer. "Class starts tomorrow at 8, be ready by then," She replied, walking out of the room and leaving. The door shutting, as she walked away.

I quickly went to the spell book and opened it. I turned through it, looking to see if anything had been removed or added. Everything seemed to have been in place. As if nothing had touched it. There didn't even seem to be dirt on it. I sighed in relief. A part of me was worried, the fact that people wanted my head on a stick wasn't very pleasant, but another part of me rang a completely different tune. It wanted- adventure..

A/N: Hey everyone, I hope y'all enjoyed this chapter. I'm sorry it has taken so long, this time I don't really have an excuse. Time sorta just flew by without me realising what was going on. I should also mention the art pieces at the bottom of the chapter was the structure they went in. I was worried I wasn't explaining it well, so I asked some people  to make it for me. I tried a few times to do it myself, but I was at a failing streak so I sorta gave up. Any who, see you in the next chapter.
