Chapter 1

A/N: (Author's Note, a hamlet is a tiny group of people, usually smaller than a village. Consisting of less than 100 residents, usually having 30-50 people).

My name is Carter... I just turned thirteen a few days ago, even though- turning thirteen, nothing exactly changes; sure, I'm now a teenager, but that doesn't really do anything for me. It simply pushes you even closer to your death bed. That may sound negative- but to me, it's more of common knowledge... Every day, I simply wait for that day to come- what else do I have to wait for?

I live in a small hamlet in England. It's named, "Sagertio." It was named this, for a reason... It's more of- lore I suppose you could say.. A legend states that back then, Sagertio was a group of wizards and witches.. They were said to be the most powerful of wizards and witches, they had knowledge of many spells. They even used magic that was considered banned, you may be curious of their purpose.. Their purpose was rather dark to say the least, they used their abilities to kill. In their opinion, people who didn't use magic were pathetic. They considered these people weak, and simply a waste of space. Wizards and Witches, from all different countries tried to take the group down. Yet, all their efforts seemed useless. By attacking, Sagertio learned new abilities and spells. They used the others simply as guinea pigs, taking the things they liked, then killing them once they weren't of worth. Eventually- they disappeared. Some believe they simply made their own planet, to be able to study for their entire lives without having to deal with the conflict they created. Some others believe they're still alive, simply hiding in plain sight. Yet, one odd thing happened when they disappeared- all the spell books disappeared. With that, so did the witches and wizards' magic. The reason our community is called Sagertio, is because many believe that they once lived here.

There really isn't much in this small hamlet. There is a mini mart, yet it's food is mainly spoiled- meaning it's hard to get good foods in our hamlet. Many simply grow their own food. There is also a bakery, it always smells wonderfully.. Yet, it's prices are outrageous. It must be hard to sell things with such little people here. A few homes: that are scattered around the hamlet. Most of them are very small, yet- they're still comfy. The families are usually small, consisting of one or two children, then the parents. I was never exactly close with any of the kids, mainly because most of them are rude. It's not their fault though, their parents tend to be a bad influence. It really is sad to see. There is one outlier to this though. Near the edge of town, there is a family who lives in a mansion. Their last name is Pecunia, meaning money in Latin. Like most homes, I'd seem It would be robbed. Yet, this one, like its very presence, is an outlier. They have armed guards who watch over the property. With large walls surrounding it, it makes it hard just to get inside. They have three maids, and one chef who supposedly graduated top of her class in the college they went to. There are two parents, and a daughter. The dad is a scientist who won a Nobel Prize in his field. At least he brags that he did. The mother is said to be a skilled teacher. So their daughter gets top notch learning and comfort. Many also mention that they're probably criminals, and that's how they obtained their wealth- it's a popular theory in our community. With no officers, there was never an investigation.

There's also a mayor's building, it isn't used anymore. It's more of a run down place, where many smoke and vandalize. Usually breaking the building to distract themselves from their fiery rage. The major died a few years back, no one wanted the job. Why would they, our community is extremely poor. We don't even have a school. Schooling usually goes to the mother, but some are too drunk to even write. Most of the time when this happens, other adults will help with education. There is no police in this hamlet, I suppose the locals enjoy this fact. With no form of government, it means no taxes. It's more like an anarchy...

The last building is the library. The library is probably the largest building in the entire hamlet. It also seems to be the oldest. It's made of a dark wood, and has painted glass. It has books with practically anything you could possibly imagine. I spend most of my time there, it's the only entertainment I could find. The stories in it tend to put me in a trance, one where you don't have to think about the things happening back home. It works well, and time really does pass by quickly.

Honestly, life has been quite boring here to say the least. Yet, I make the most out of it. After all, dying a boring life- isn't very fun.

A/N: (Author's Note) Hello, I hope you enjoyed chapter one of my story! I enjoyed writing it, so I hoped you enjoyed reading it. When I first began writing this book, I wanted it to be a choose your own path story. I decided otherwise, only because I thought I'd have more creative freedom this way. I believe my idea was correct based on how I wrote this chapter. I've been extremely excited for this story, to say the least. I just love writing, and I hope I'll be able to finish this story. When I write stories, I tend to struggle at finishing a story. Mainly because I'm terrible at endings. I don't like ending a story on a cliff hanger- mainly because I usually feel guilty for making you guys wait for the next book to arrive. Especially because I'm a slow writer. To give reference, this chapter probably took an hour or two. When I write, I first make a draft. This draft consists of ideas, and how the story will go in little detail. I then research, such as in this chapter. I needed a location near, or at the sea, and had lore. Sagertio is obviously not a real city, but I look for real life equivalents for reference. My third thing on the list is to actually write the chapter. My 4th step is to find all grammar, and spelling mistakes. I check a chapter about one, up to four times. Which sounds like a lot, and it probably is- but it works out for me in the long run.
