The Date Virgin
Keith looked out at the city from his small apartment balcony. The sun was setting just beyond the horizon, giving an orange glow to the office buildings and Starbucks'.
He rhythmically lifted his tea bag in and out of his mug, lost in thought.
"Hey Keith"
Keith's neighbor stepped onto the balcony next to his, shuddering slightly at the cool night air.
Keith smiled.
"hey. How was tonight's line up?"
Lance propped his elbows against the railing, so he was also staring out at the beautiful city.
"oh my god it was the worst date ever"
Keith raised an eyebrow.
"oh really? Even worse then that opera singer?"
The taller boy shrugged.
"okay okay maybe not that bad but still"
Keith and Lance have been neighbors for two years now. Every night, Lance has a new potential husband or wife to take out on a date. He's very popular, considering he's a doctor and is probably loaded.
Ever since Lances first date in the new city, when he came onto the balcony in despair, Keith has asked him what's up. And they have raved about the awful candidates that Lance has courted.
Keith leaned his hip against the railing so that he was facing his neighbor.
"Really? what did this one do?"
Lance sighed and cracked his knuckles.
"well she arrived at the restaurant an hour early, which is weird. She proceeded to take at least thirty minutes to decide what kind of salad she wanted WHICH SHE DIDNT EVEN EAT. When I tried to make conversation she just kept mentioning how much she liked my shirt. And when it came to the bill, she saw the waiter coming and ran to the bathroom. Turns out she was waiting outside for me cause she wanted to catch a movie. AND IM NOT EVEN HALFWAY THROUGH THE STORY!"
Keith clamped his hand over his mouth, hiding his laughter.
"oh my god your dating game is shit."
"you can't say much." Lance indicated. "I have a new date every night. I don't think you've ever been on a date ever.
It was the shorter boys turn to shrug.
"maybe I just haven't met a guy who's worthy to date me."
"well you can hardly spend your whole life cooped up in your apartment."
Don't offend my apartment life. Keith rolled his eyes.
"based on the way your love life is going, you'll probably be here to keep me company."
Lance laughed. Wow does Keith loves it when lance laughs. His eyes scrunch up and his cheeks tint pink. His smile spread across his face like butter and it just blows him away.
"ouch. Low blow."
The smaller boy smirked.
"still" lance said delicately. "every guy should go on a date. Even if it is with a tone deaf violinist."
The brown haired boy slapped his forehead with laughter.
"oh my god I remember that date! When she insisted on playing for you in the middle of a restaurant oh my god............"
Lance smiled to himself.
"At least you haven't experienced any bad dates"
"Yeah but I haven't experienced any good ones either"
Lance furrowed his brows a bit, and smiled. "you've just given me an idea."
His friend raised his eyebrows.
" you've got an idea? That's new."
"oh shut up. I gotta go inside I have some planning to do."
Lance slid open his glass door and stepped back into his toasty apartment.
"Night, Lance" Keith called after him.
"Goodnight."
~~the next night~~
Keith stepped onto his balcony, as he does every night. He looked over to his neighbors, only to notice a note attached to a heart shaped balloon.
What the fuck?
He slowly reached over the three inches gap between the balconies, and snatched the note with his name scrawled across it.
Keith,
It's time to pop your date virginity cherry.
If you're not weirded out or filing for a restraining order, deck out in your nicest suit and wait inside your apartment for 7 o'clock.
Sincerely, (hopefully),
your first date x
A smile couldn't help but light up his face. He has dreamt for this, well not this exact scenario, but he has dreamt for a date with Lance for ages. And no dreams ever come true.
He put on a black suit with a white shirt and red tie, combing his hair with his fingers for 7 o'clock. The digital clock on his microwave hit 7 just as there was a knock on his door.
His heart skipped a beat as he cautiously opened the door.
No one was there.
But there were petals. Tons of them. All blood red. They led out from Keith's apartment, all the way to the wall opposite it, before doing a u turn and ending at Lances door.
The ones on Lances side were all blue.
Keith's cheeks flooded with red as he chuckled. He felt giddy, like a small child on their birthday. Butterflies fluttered a storm in his stomach. He paced along the petal path, ending up at his neighbors door.
He knocked politely on the door, which immediately swung open. The apartment was dark, making it impossible to see.
"Lance?" Keith said into the darkness.
Since this apartment is identical to Keith's layout wise, he crept down past the bathroom and bedroom, trying to feel his way towards the living room. His hand lightly hit the door and groped for the door handle.
Every breath in his body was taken. Totally Snatched.
A path of unlit tea lights led down the middle of the living room. Fairy lights were scattered around the ground, letting white and yellow lights shine through the dark room. In the centre, was a round table with a long white candle in the middle. Keith's breath shook as he stepped into the room, shutting the door behind him. The loud noise caused Lance to jump out of the kitchen, his face lighting up when he saw Keith.
He was wearing a dark blue suit, topped off with a bright blue dickie bow.
"Keith! You're right on time!" He cried, maneuvering through the lights to meet his date.
"Wait a minute. Let me just.........."
His fingers wrapped around Keith's tie, and pulled it into a limp bow tie.
"Much better"
Keith laughed, unable to control his happiness.
"Keith Kogane. Ready for your first date?"
"Lance McClain" Keith linked their hands together. "I'm as ready as I'll ever be"
