Again and Again

Keith shot up in bed. His sweat slicked body made his mullet stick to the back of his neck. His heart was beating a tattoo into his chest, and fear drained the color from his face.
It's just a nightmare. It's not real he assured himself.

They were deep in battle. Orders were being screamed over and back and we were swooping and shooting left and right. Then Keith heard a sound that will surely haunt him forever. Lance screamed, nearly deafening him, and his mic cut out. Keith disobeyed direct orders from Shiro and flew towards Lances last location. He landed on a nearby planet, and he could feel his heart stop beating. The blue lion was now a pile of rubble, surrounded by blue metal and scraps. Keith jumped out of the red lion and raced into the blue lions cockpit.
"Lance?!?! Lance where are you?!"

He was unrecognizable. Blood coated his face in a thick layer, his armor torn to shreds. Keith slid on his knees next to his boyfriend, wiping the blood on his face. His eyes were open. His eyes weren't blinking. His chest wasn't moving.

It's just a dream. Keith shook the nightmare from his head, and slid out of bed. He didn't bother get dressed or fix his hair, and just slumped to the dining room from breakfast. All the paladins were pale, with dark bags under their eyes. Keith slid into his seat, only to notice that Lances seat was empty.

"Hey guys, where's lance? He never misses breakfast"

Nobody moved or said anything. Keith scoffed at them. "I'll go get him then"

He raced out of the room. He was so quick that he didn't hear the paladins break down into tears. He reached outside Lances door, and gently knocked on it.
"Lance? Lance buddy you awake?"

He opened the door and stepped inside the room, only to find it empty. Not just empty of Lance, but all of his things were gone. His Cuban flag, his pile of clothes in the corner, his framed picture of him family. All of it. Gone.
Keith's legs began to wobble.

"Hey guys? Where's Lances stuff?" He called, his voice shaking slightly.

A tear stained Pidge and Shiro appeared in the doorway, quickly followed by the rest of the paladins.
"Keith" Pidge started, before she broke down into another flood of tears.

She ran up to Keith and wrapped her arms around his waist, crying a river.
"In our last mission" croaked Shiro, his voice breaking. "Lance was in an accident. H-he didn't make it, Keith"

Time stopped. Everything stopped. Keith wanted to collapse onto his knees. Lance, dead? His flirtatious attitude, his obnoxious laugh, his comforting lips, gone?
Keith wanted to laugh, but instead a fire of pain grew in his body. It burned through his veins and around his head.

"No. No h-he can't be" he let out a strangled cry. "He can't be dead"

The other paladins wrapped their arms around him, sobbing loudly. Keith felt like he was going to be sick. His feet gave away and he was on the floor. Hot tears streamed down his face, each one burning into his skin. The others cradled him, as he cried out for Lance, as if he would materialize and hug him. Tell him it wasn't real. That he was okay.

Keith cried himself to sleep. Missing Lances smell, his touch. The way he would hug Keith's mullet, and kiss his forehead when he was sad. All of his cheesy jokes and bad puns.
The pain burned in Keith's heart. In a million life times, this will never go away.
Ever.

The Next Morning
Keith walked into the dining room, and slipped into his seat.
"Hey guys, where's Lance?"
