"So the stone is on some planet called v- uh, vor-myre?"
"Vormir, you ignorant slut. And yes, we have a craft that can drop two of us off there to retrieve it"
"Easy" Rich shrugs. "What's the catch?"
"Yeah I have no idea" Brooke explains. "No one has ever gone to Vormir and, well, come back"
"Sounds festive" Micheal claps his hands together. "So we go to this planet, get the soul stone, and then we can get this infinity plan a rolling?"
"Sounds like it" Chloe says. "Any volunteers?"
"Hey Jer! Wanna go to space?" Micheal yells across the room.
"It's a date!" Jeremy calls back
"This is an awful date"
The purple and pink sky glares down at Jeremy, taunting his fear. Micheal playfully shoulders him.
"Come on babe. There's nothing more romantic than a scary cliff in the middle of space that we know nothing about"
Jeremy pulls a face, and Micheal pouts.
"What? You scared or something?"
"Psshhh no fuck off" Jeremy grumbles, holding his elbows.
Michael throws up his hands.
"Fine then, lets get up this mountain and get this fancy rock so we can save the universe"
Micheal takes about six steps before he realises that his boyfriend hasn't budged. He smiles with a chuckle.
"You okay there, Jer?"
"Yes"
"Do you need to hold my hand?"
"'Bout time you fuckin' offered"
Their hands slip together as they have a million times before. The pair walk up the winding path that leads to the top of the mountain. It feels a hundred feet high, tall and rectangular. Pertruding from the top are two large pillars- not unlike prongs. The mystical skies haunt with the shape of forgotten planets, painted blue and angry red. Fear strikes into the two boys hearts, intimidated by the sight before them.
The path is uneven and jagged. Every rock threatens to break under their feet. The drop gets higher and higher, the threat of danger looming darker over them.
They reach the top of the mountain, the air eerily still. The remains of snowflakes linger in the air. White speckles across the ground, crunching softly under their feet. Jeremys knees shake as his palms sweat. It's oddly warm, but chills run down Jeremys spine. Michael squeezes his hand comfortingly, but it's in vain.
Jeremy slips his hand out of Micheals, stalking over to the the edge. The skies are almost orange from up here, vibrant behind the midnight clouds. Jeremy drops his eyes for a second, and immediately his legs go to jelly. The ground looks miles away.
Michael walks behind him, opening his mouth to say some sort of dick joke or other snarky remark, but he's cut off.
"Welcome"
The boys snap around. Michaels blade posed above his head in a battle stance, Jeremy with an axe behind him, ready to throw. A figure stands opposite them. It floats down, smoke replacing where its feet should be. It dons a black cloak that stretches around him and flaps in defiance to the wind.
"I say one word and you're already pulling out the weapons on me" it says, monotone.
"Who are you?" demands Micheal, his voice cold and stern.
The figure chuckles.
"I'm someone who knows what you want"
It drops its hood. Jeremy lowers his axe, cocking his head to the side.
"Keanu Reeves?"
It glares at Jeremy.
"Keanu Re- No. No shut up. I'm not Keanu Reeves. Don't say that. Anyways, you're here for the soul stone"
Micheal chuckles dryly.
"You must get a lot of visitors if you picked up on what this place's tourist attraction is"
It shifts its iron gaze to Micheal.
"I really don't like either of you, you know that?"
"Then how about you give us what we want so we can leave" Micheal never drops his stance for a second, prepared to fight whatever he must to get the stone.
Keanu Reeves sucks in a breath.
"You know it won't work that easy" it says, floating down so it appears as if he's touching the ground. "I can't just give the stone to anyone who wants it. Otherwise I would've lost it decades ago to those idiots in red, white and blue spandex"
Jeremy squints at him.
"Why do you look like Keanu Reeves?"
It claps its hands loudly.
"WHY DOES ANYONE LOOK LIKE ANYONE?! WHO FUCKING KNOWS! NOW LET ME SAY MY LITTLE SPEECH SO YOU TWO CAN GET ON YOUR MERRY FUCKING WAY!"
It takes a deep breath, pinching the bridge of its nose. It sighs.
"It has to be a trade. A soul for a soul"
Michael finally lowers his blade.
"A trade? that's it? Fine easy"
"No you're not listening to me" F in the chat for this guy for having to put up with the boyf's bullshit. "A soul for a soul. I'm only giving you the soul stone if you give me one of your souls. I'm not picky. I'll take either"
The boys look to each other. Jeremy's eyes are filled with worry and pre-meditated regret, while Micheals swim with confusion.
"What do you me-" Micheal looks up, but its gone. Keanu Reeves has made an exit.
"Soul for a soul" Jeremy says next to him. He chuckles. "Do one of us have to . . . . .die for the soul stone?"
Micheal shakes his head. "No way"
He chuckles nervously, walking away from the edge and towards one of the two towering pillars. He sits on a fallen rock next to it.
"There's no way that's what he meant"
"Mike" Jeremy slowly steps over to him, his face fallen. "One of us have to die. That's what it means"
Michael looks up at him. "No"
"We came here knowing the risk" Jeremy says gently. "We came here willing to die to get everyone back. I would do anything- give anything, to bring my brother back. Evan didn't . . . . ." Jeremy pauses. "A-are you saying you wouldn't die to bring back your moms?"
Micheal chuckles dryly.
"Of course. Of course I would but my moms they . . . if they came back, and you weren't there or I wasnt there if would tear them apart"
Micheals voice breaks. He scrunches up his eyes and sniffs.
"Maybe we don't have to die. Who says we have to die?" He grasps desperately at straws in a distressed panic.
Jeremy looks up to the sky.
"MR REEVES!" He yells. "BY SOUL BY A SOUL, DO YOU MEAN ONE OF US HAVE TO DIE?"
"Oh my god these fuckers again- YES OKAY ONE OF YOU HAVE TO JUMP OFF THE CLIFF IN ORDER FOR THE OTHER TO GET THE SOUL STONE NOW FUCK OFF!"
Jeremy raises his eyebrows.
"I don't think he likes us too much"
Micheal just sniffs again. He gets to his feet standing opposite his boyfriend. They stand parallel to the cliff, the dangerous sky taunting them. Micheal holds his boyfriend soldiers, biting his shaking lip.
"Micheal are you-" Jeremy is cut off with a kiss. Micheal kisses him hard and fast. He then rests his head against his boyfriends forehead. He sniffs again.
"I love you Jerry" he says.
Jeremy furrows his brows.
"Micheal what are you-"
Micheal runs. Full on sprints towards the edge of the cliff. The ledge gets closer and closer- until he's tackled to the ground. He lets out an oof, his head smacking on the hard rock. When his vision refocuses, he sees a figure getting off of him.
"Tell Evan I'm sorry" Jeremy says down to his boyfriend with a quick smile. He turns to run towards the edge, but is tripped up.
Micheal managed to put the handle of his blade in front of Jeremy's foot. He winces in pain as Micheal gets up.
"Tell him yourself" His face softens for only a second.
Micheal jumps over Jeremy, taking another sprint to the cliff. The horizon shakes as it gets closer and closer. He's meters away from the edge when a sharp pain strikes his calf. He falls to the ground, pain screaming through his leg.
Jeremys axe is buried deep into his leg, leaving him immobile.
"No no no no no NO NO NO NO!" He screams, choking up. He grabs the handle of the axe, yelling as shocks of pain soar through him.
"Micheal stop" Jeremys voice breaks.
A pair of soft hands lift up Micheals tear streaked face. Jeremy looks deep into his boyfriends dark eyes. He smiles weakly.
"I'm really sorry about your leg" He says, tears chopping up each word. "And tell you moms how much I love them"
"No no no no no Jeremy no no please no"
Jeremy slowly stands up and starts to walk. Michael desperately grabs his hand in an attempt to pull him back.
Jeremy swallows, looking at his boyfriend with one final tear streaked smile.
"Would it be insensitive right now" Jeremy says, his voice shaking. "to call you my soulmate?"
Micheal chokes out a sob.
"You fucking asshole"
Jeremy takes a deep breath.
"You too, soulmate"
Jeremy lets go of his hand.
Micheals screams are muted. The world goes silent. Jeremy runs and leaps off the cliff. Off of Vormir. Michael is too high up to hear the crash of Jeremys body hitting the ground. He scrunches up his eyes. He takes a deep breath, choking into a sob. Theres a blinding light, followed by darkness.
Micheal feels like he's floating on clouds. Maybe thats because he is floating on clouds. Wait no, it's not clouds. It's water. Michael shoots up, gasping desperately for breath. The water is like a mirror, reflecting the cloudy, orang-purple sky above him. His mind is blank, empty. But soon the plain canvas of his brain is splattered with the blood of his boyfriend.
Where is he wheres the cliff wheres Jeremy wheres the stone wheres Jeremy-
Michael looks around him at the mountains that trim the horizon. He tries to stand up in the abdomen deep water, but the sharp pain in his wounded leg stops him.
He takes a deep breath. That's when he notices the sharp, object in his hand. He opens his wet palm to reveal a glowing orange stone. He laughs. And laughs again. Jeremy- his soulmate died for this itty bitty little stone. He keeps laughing. Until those laughs turn into soul wrenching sobs.
He looks up at the swirling sky above him.
This really was a shit destination for a date.
