"Do you really want to do this, Micheal?"

Three and a half weeks ago, Jeremy Heere vanished on his way home from his friends house. Two weeks later, he spoke to his boyfriend through the wall.
Micheal still wakes up at night, in a cold sweat, thinking of that moment.

"It's like home. Our home. But dark, and scary. I'm so scared Micha. I-I just wanna come home"

A large kiddies pool sits in the middle of the gym. Water at the perfect temperature, enough salt in the water to make an egg float.
Micheal turns the duck taped covered goggles in his hands.

"I'm gonna get you home, you just need to hang in there a bit longer"

"I promised him that I'd find him" Micheal mutters.

The water is lukewarm around his knees. The goggles block out all light, leaving him in darkness. Rich and Chloe hold his arms, gently lowering him into the water, fully closed. Brooke slips on her own goggles, Jake and Christine leading her into the pool.
No one will say it, but no one is sure if this'll work. Sure, the science supports it. A sensory deprivation tank. The pair float on the water in pure darkness, tightly holding hands.

Brooke has always had . . . a sixth sense. She can tell when people are lying, perfectly read their moods, even predict what's going to happen. But this . . . is extreme. To jump to a whole new world, a dark world. To find Jeremy. To take Micheal with her.

The small crowd hush into a silence, leaving only heartbeat in Micheals ears.

"I can't. There's......there's something in here. It's coming for me, Micheal"

He scrunches his eyes tight. But when he opens them, he's standing up.

He's . . . in a dark room. A thin layer of water is on the ground. He looks around, each of his movements seeming to echo around him.
"Brooke?" His voice echoes and distorts into nothing.

A warm force holds his hand. No ones there, but he can feel Brooke. He's found her. Now he needs to find Jeremy. He looks around, searching for anything. But he's only greeted with darkness.

Until, he spots his couch? From his basement? Not from the house that him and Jeremy share, but from his house from high school. The basement where him and Jeremy played AOTD. Where they got high. Where they had their first kiss.

He can see the stained fabric from twenty yards away. He walks towards the back of the couch, his feet splashing gently against the thin layer of water. The twenty second journey seems to take an eternity. He's only about six feet away when he hears it.

"Say there's this person you pass in the hall everyday"

A soft, shaking voice sings the words gently.

"You've known him since first grade"

Micheals heart clenches in his chest.

"You're used to thinking about him in a certain way, until one day he says that he's gay" the voice gets weaker with each word.

"And then something changes"
Micheal places his hands on the back of the couch.
"And he changes"

"Jeremy?"

Curled up in a tight ball, blue with cold. He looks wet, practically frozen. He shivers, unresponsive to his boyfriend above him. Except, he stops singing.

Micheal moves around the couch, until he's crouched in front of Jeremy. The Filipino reaches out, and takes his hands, which and folded in his chest. Colder then ice.
"It's me Jeremy. I-its me baby. I've got you"

The lanky boy looks up slowly. He seems to look through Micheal, until his blue eyes lock on brown ones.
"M-Micha?"

A weak smile breaks across their faces.
"It's me. Holy fuck Jer it's me. I love you. I-I love you so much. And I'm getting you out of there. We know where you are now, just stay here, okay?"

Jeremy's eyes fill with panic and tears.
"Please don't go" he whispers.

Micheal just smiles sadly, cupping his boyfriends face gently.
"I want to stay. But the universe won't let me. Don't worry, my dear. I'll be seeing you soon, okay?"

Jeremy's eyes fall to the ground, and he stops shivering. He stops moving altogether. He stops breathing.
"Jeremy?" Micheal shakes him gently. "JERMEY? WAKE UP! NO DONT GIVE UP NOW! WE'RE SO CLOSE! JEREMY!"

Jeremy and the couch vanish into a cloud of smoke. Micheal falls onto his hands, tears streaming down his face. He stumbles to his feet, sobbing loudly.
"JEREMY!"

A chilling scream fills the gym. Micheal splashes in the pool, in a state of pure panic. Jake hooks him under the armpits, dragging him out of the water. He throws the goggles onto the ground, showing Micheal that he's back in the real world.
But the Filipino doesn't relax. He kicks and screams. He screams for his lover. He screams for the empty spot in his bed.
He screams for the engagement ring box that gains dust in his sock drawer.

You can't go they said. You're in no state to go into that world where Jeremy is. You need to stay calm. You don't want Jeremy to see you in this state, do you?
So Micheals stays in the gym. A towel wrapped around his wet shoulders. Christine sitting next to him.

Jake and Rich have found a . . . portal? Micheals not sure of the wording. It's like a gateway. Deep in the woods. Climb through it, and you're there. In a world identical to ours, but everything is dark, cold and covered in dark vines. The air is supposedly toxic. How could Jeremy survive in there if the air is toxic?

Doesn't matter. They know where he is. The dark version of Micheals old house, circled up in the basement. Micheals heart hurts just thinking about it.

But the pair just wait there. There's nothing else they can do. They wait for a phone call. A call saying that Jeremy is dead. That Rich is dead. That Jake is dead. That there is no gateway. That they're all fucked. That Micheal is going to die knowing, that Jeremy's blood is on his hands.

Hours crawl by. Minutes stand still. Seconds last an eternity. Both of them are so shunned to speak. The silence is thick and full.
Until it's cut, by Christines ring tone.

Jenna runs down the hall. No, she sprints. Her job as look-out is paying off. She needs to reach her friends. She needs to tell them.
She bursts into the hospital waiting room, causing half a dozen heads turn to her. But she never hated attention.

"Micheal?"
He's tired. He's done. He's scared. His eyes go wide. His heart sinks. He expects the worst news.
"He's awake"

Sonic has nothin' on him. The Filipino sprints down the hall with a holler. The others try to run after him, but Jenna stops them. It's Micheals time. He deserves to see Jermey first.
Micheal nearly crashes into Jeremy's pristine hospital door. Suddenly, anxiety stabs every heartbeat. His shaking hands turn the knob.

The door is barely open when he says, "Jeremy?"

"Micheal?" A voice replies.
But not just any voice. His voice.

The door swings open, hits the wall, and slams shut. Micheal launches onto the hospital bed, tightly hugging its skinny inhabitant.
"STOP BEFORE YOU BREAK ME!" Giggles Jeremy.

Micheal pulls himself up, smiling. Jeremy smiles back. He's paler then before, and that's saying something. A lot skinnier too. Tubes protrude from his limbs into IV bags. He should be dead. But his eyes are alive as they've ever been.

Micheal realizes that he's just been staring at him, not talking. He chuckles weakly, stroking his face.
"Did you miss me?"

"Is the day long?"

"Okay shut the fuck up with that reference before I cry"

Jeremy laughs. God has Micheal missed his laugh. It must be written on his face, because Jeremy reaches up, and holds his chink. The -sick boy pulls his head down until their lips meet. The kiss is gentle and loving. Just what they both need after everything they've been through. They can get to the rough stuff later.

Micheal presses their foreheads together, unable to stop smiling.
"Fuck I love you so much"

"Fuck-I-love-you-so-much too" Jeremy wipes
away the tears falling down his boyfriend face. "And don't worry, soon you'll be eager to have me gone again"

"No" the ring box digs against Micheals leg. "No I don't think I will"
