Chan hurried up the stairs.
Today he and his coworkers Jisung and Changbin released a new single and he was so excited to hear his girlfriend's opinions on it.
Yi and him had been together for 3 years now and she always gave him the best feedback from an outsider perspective. Their song "We Go", which was released that day, was one of Chans favourites they've done so far, which is why their opinion was even more important to him.
With the keys already in his hand he unlocked the door, slipped out of his shoes and wanted to run down the hallway, just to fall over a bag, that hadn't been there, when he left earlier this morning. A bit confused he sat up and looked down the hallway. It wasn't the only bag that was laying there. Various bigger and smaller bags and some suitcases were laying and/or standing around.
"What...? What is going on?", he muttered to himself. Something was wrong, really, really wrong.
He got up and slowly walked to the living room, scanning the bags and suitcases. Chan was not good in estimating, but he was pretty sure that these were most, maybe even all of Yis things.
Chan entered the living room, met with the sight of Yi sitting on the couch, tears streaming down her face.
He hurried over to her to hug them, but as soon as he tried to touch her, they made a rejecting hand gesture.
"Baby, what's wrong? Did something happen? Why are all of your things in the hallway? Do you need to move out? Are your parents alright? Can I-", she interrupted him right there.
"Chan, I need to break up with you."
"Wha-? Why?", to say Chan was shocked was an understatement.
"I'll be honest with you, I think I've lost my feelings for you." She looked down to her lap, unable to stop crying. „I've been doing a lot of thinking over the last month. I really tried to get them back, but I'm simply not able to." They looked up, trying to meet Chans gaze. "I don't want to hurt you, you mean so endlessly much to me, but not in the romantic way. At least not anymore."
Now Chan started to cry as well. Questions started running through his head. What did he do wrong? Was he not enough? It clearly was his fault.
"I know you're thinking it's your fault, but believe me, when I'm telling you it's not. The last 3 years have been the best of my life and I'm so thankful, that I was able to spend them with you. I gladly would've spent the rest of my life with you, but it seems like the universe doesn't want us to."
Chan only nodded, tears still streaming down his face, he was not able to do or say anything else.
Yi sighed, wiped her tears off of her face and continued: "I thought it was for the best of the two of us, if I move out, that's why all the bags are laying around. My friends will come and help me pick them up."
Chan nodded again.
She got up clearly unsure of what to do now.
"I'll be there for you, if you need me, okay?", they added.
Chan looked up again and replied: "Okay."
Awkward silence.
Yi grabbed her phone and started typing out a message.
Chan sighed before saying: "Look, I don't want to be mean, but this is a lot right now", while saying this, his voice started to crack, "and I would appreciate it, if you'd leave."
Yi nodded understanding and let out a sad smile.
„Goodbye Chan, thank you."
Slowly they walked out and left behind nothing but Chans world completely broken down.
