PROLOGUE
{This chapter takes place before the first episode of Criminal Minds, like let's say a week before. This is just going to be an introduction chapter for Maya and so that you all can get to know her and all that}
To say that Maya wishes that she was never born is an understatement.
For twenty-one years of her life, all that she has known is trauma, rarely seeing the light of day and going outside as her father said it was dangerous and that bad things could happen to her. But yet he did the bad things to her. He just didn't want her to blab to someone for what her father did. She never had any friends in her life. The only friends were the victims of her father's terrible crimes. (Terrible is the 'appropriate' way of putting it). She was a victim of her father's crimes that he did, some she wouldn't admit. They are so traumatic that to the point, Maya is petrified of males. She would flinch every time a male came in her direction. She went through every form of abuse from her father. So, for over twenty years, Maya's best friend was the darkness in a closet away from the pain.
How the world managed to find out about what her father did as a sickly living job was when one of his female victims: Anastasia Kuznetov, escaped and told the authorities what the man did to her. But here's the interesting part when the BAU got on the case, no one knew that Miguel Hart had a daughter because Anastasia didn't tell the authorities when she escaped that Miguel had a daughter
Even though she was raised in fear and darkness, Maya still knew how to fight. She defended herself as one of her father's earlier victims taught her how to. She used it to her advantage, though. Right now, Maya is reading a book of one of the few books she was allowed to read even if it wasn't in English. She didn't care, but luckily, she understood what the book was about. It was a book in Japanese.
"Boss wants you, Maya," Enrique says to Maya as he taps on the cell, which makes the girl put down her book, get up, and walk out of the cell. She walked down the long hallway, and she got to the area where her father was. Her shackles hit each other with each step that she took.
When she got to where her father was, she heard screams and cries for help but was taught to do nothing about it, so she grew up thinking that it was normal. Which it feels like even though it's not.
"FBI, FREEZE!" Was a loud voice that made Maya automatically fall to the ground as she was also taught that when any authoritative figure comes into sight to play dead and faint. It was a skill that her father would praise her for for doing it. "Morgan, you get the girl, I'll get the others." Said another voice, but Maya didn't dare to move an inch.
She felt fingers on her neck as the guy was checking for a heartbeat, and her body froze. "There's a heartbeat, but why did she automatically faint?" He said loud probably in a walkie-talkie or something, but Maya couldn't care less. The guy picked her up, and he realized that she was underweight as he assumed she was sixteen/seventeen, but she looked a little bit older than that. But what he didn't realize was that she was twenty-one.
At the BAU, Maya was brought in for questioning, and she was told to sit in the chair. When the officer left the room, she scurried to the corner. To feel some sense of comfort as she likes the corner. When the door opened, she sharply looked up, and she didn't want to get up from the comforting coldness of the ground.
A tall black man sat down on the chair and motioned Maya to sit in the other chair. He didn't look harmful but looks can be deceiving. Her father didn't look harmful, and you got the picture.
"It's okay, I'm not gonna hurt you." The man says as Maya's eyes start welling up with tears as she slowly gets up and the man sees her clothing. Battered looked like the Wolverine attacked them, and he noticed that she wasn't wearing any shoes. He leaned down to grab something that made Maya jump.
He scooted the bag toward her and she just watched him do that not knowing what to do. "I will give you a couple of minutes to change, and then I have questions for you." He says as she barely nods her head, slightly warming up to him. He smiled a little and then left to give her some privacy.
Maya opened the bag of clothes there was a white T-shirt, a pair of leggings, socks, and some basic tennis shoes. she smiled a little at the contents that were in the bag, she thought it was Christmas and she was opening up presents. She got dressed and put her old clothes in the bag, she finished tying her shoes. Then when she was done the man walked in.
"This is Elle and I'm Derek, what's your name?" Derek asked Maya as she froze and she opened her mouth to speak but no words came out. It took her a moment to speak.
"M-M-Maya.....H-Hart." She stutters barely above a whisper as Derek nods his head at her.
"Thank you. Is it okay if we ask questions, Miss?" Derek says as Elle gives Maya a friendly smile to show that she isn't harmless. Elle looked at the file that they could get of Maya with her nonexistent to the world. All they were able to get was her birthday but not her year.
"Where did you grow up?" Elle asked her.
"South East of Phoenix, Arizona. Tucson area." She says which wasn't above a whisper as Elle wrote that down on a piece of paper.
"Did you ever have any siblings or relatives or a mother?" Derek asked her as she thought about the question, before shaking her head.
"I have a mother, but I never met her, my dad said that she wasn't a good mother," Maya says as Elle and Derek look at each other for a moment before writing that down.
"Okay, thank you. My colleague noticed you have bruises, ligature marks, scars, and things of that nature. Can you tell us, how you got those?" Elle asked as Maya stopped moving and she froze at the mention of her wounds. Derek took notice of this and added it to a list in his head.
"I don't know," Maya says quietly Derek knows that Maya is lying but doesn't say anything. He didn't want to push her to a breaking point and not knowing what was going to happen.
"Yes, you do. How did you get them?" Elle asked as Maya's fists were getting higher as she was focusing on her breathing, but it wasn't working.
"I don't know," Maya says her voice getting louder with each word.
"How did you get them?" Elle asked as Maya snapped and got up as she was the first one to grab her gun, making Maya go against the wall.
"Elle....put it down," Derek says to Elle as she slowly puts her gun down.
Maya was heavily breathing as she felt that her back was against the corner. The doors swung open as officers take Maya away as she is forcibly pushed as her and Derek share one last look, before she gets shoved into a holding cell at the Quantico. She paces around her room for a couple of hours before she gives up due to boredom and she sits in a corner, to feel safe, and some form of comfort. She sighs as she closes her eyes as it doesn't help how the room is brighter than any light she has seen in her life. She doesn't remember what else happened after Derek picked her up as she faked fainting.
That's what she was taught to do. She was taught to pretend to faint and collapse on the ground. Her father taught her how to do that, especially when any authority figure is present at the scene or present at all, was to faint. She did what she was taught to do, it may have not been the smartest thing in the world but it worked.
After a while of being in the holding cell she saw that someone was behind her and she jumped when she saw it was Derek. He opened the cell door, and there was distance between the two, but it was a big enough distance where Maya felt safe and wasn't gonna freak out. "Sorry about earlier, we needed to know information about you. As all what we had was your birthday but not the year you were born." He says to her as she looks at him and almost stares at him, as she is getting a better look on him. She just nods her head at what he said. "What year were you born in?"
"1984." She says to him as he nods his head.
"I'm getting paper from my pocket so don't freak out, okay." He says to her as when he reached into his back pocket, she didn't freak out and just stood there looking at him. When he got the paper he wrote down the year that she was born. "So you're twenty one, correct." He asked her as she nods her head as he added that to her list. "Okay thank you for asking the questions." He says to her, as she gave him a small smile which he returned.
Later
"Where is Maya going to stay at? Did she say where she has any family where she can stay at." Hotch asked Derek as he shook her head no at his boss.
"No, but I had it worked out already." Derek says as that sparked his boss attention as he turned his head towards Morgan.
"Where is she staying at, for the time being?" Hotch asked him.
"I found a women's shelter that was willing to take her for a while, and or until she can get back onto her feet." Derek says as Hotch nods his head at Morgan, as it's only been an hour since Maya had left for the women's shelter. As him and Maya are going to stay in touch for the time being, as he strangely felt a connection towards her, and he doesn't know what it is.
A sense of protectiveness.
He is going to protect her at all costs, no matter the risks.
"Okay, that's a good place for her. Are you going to stay in touch with the owner of the shelter?" Jason Gideon asked Derek as he wasn't too far from Derek and Hotch and he over heard their conversation.
Derek nods his head at him too. "Yeah, I got the owner's number and also managed to get Maya a phone too." Derek says as Jason looked at him weird but shook it off as Hotch nodded his head.
"Because with what happened, I'd like to keep tabs on her and see how she's doing and get her the help that she needs." Hotch says before his phone rang and he excused himself and he answered it as it was his wife Haley.
"How did she take Elle asking the questions? Is it true that she freaked out." Gideon asked Derek as said man walked to his desk and to grab his stuff that he needs as he's gonna head home soon.
"Yeah, that's true." Derek says to Gideon as he nods his head.
"Glad she's doing a little better, even if it will take a while for her to open up and get used to her surroundings. I didn't even know the guy even had a daughter." Gideon says.
"It was because Anastasia didn't mention that Miguel had a daughter, until we got there and I saw that she fainted. I'm guessing that her father taught her that whenever an authority figure is present that she plays dead and faints." Derek says as Gideon looked at him weirdly when he said the last part before nodding his head at him.
"That would make sense." He says as Derek finished grabbing his stuff. "Have a good night, Derek." He says as said Derek turns around and does a little wave at Gideon.
"See ya." He says before he walked towards the elevator and slows down when he sees Spencer Reid. A young kid who he works with as he's a fellow agent. "Pretty boy, how ya doin?" He asked Spencer as said Spencer had a book in his hand, as it was most likely in a language that he didn't even know.
Spencer looked up from his book as he didn't even realize that Derek was even there, he had a small smile. "Good." He says before he went back into reading his book that he was enjoying before Derek talked to him.
"I'm gonna regret asking, but what are you reading?" Derek asked Spencer as he sighs making Derek chuckle at him.
"You won't get it, it's not in English." Spencer says as Derek playfully rolled his eyes as the elevator door opened.
"Is that all you read? Books not in English?" Derek asked as Spencer nodded his head without looking up at Derek.
"For the most part. I mean I have books in English too, but I prefer to read them in like German or stuff like that." Spencer says as Derek shakes his head at him.
"Geek." Derek says as now it's Spencer's turn to look at Derek before shaking his head.
"Do you have anymore questions? If not, I'm gonna read my book." Spencer says sounding like a child who got bored of interacting after they got interrupted of doing what they're doing.
"Sure." He says as Spencer went back reading his book as the elevator stopped. "Oh and by the way, the elevator stopped."
Spencer groaned when Derek said that as he grabbed his bookmark and put it in his book and then put the book in the satchel that was around his neck. "I hate you." He says before the two men went in their separate directions.
He was going to protect Maya, no matter what. That's a fact right there. No matter the risks that it would take.

Hannah's time to talk!
Hey, y'all here is a new chapter of this beautiful book that I procrastinated again. Go figure. But hope you like this book.
Like the little note at the top of this chapter, this chapter as a whole will take place before the first actual chapter which will be the first criminal minds chapter so far.
I have a lot of hope that this chapter will do well like my other two books.
I know like I need more but I couldn't help myself, and I work a little better with females, versus male OCs. In that book the only other male character is Nathan.
Hope you like him and the other OCs.
See y'all in the next chapter.
Love you all.
