{chocolate milk tragedy - original}
It has been a couple days since the whole Constance Welch hunt. Whitney has been quiet as a fly ever since. She hasn't really talked and or eaten, which is never like her, as she is like Dean, always hungry. The three of them are in the impala as today they didn't have a hunt mainly because they didn't want to go on one. Whitney wasn't complaining. She didn't want to leave.
They have been driving for God knows how long as Whitney wasn't keeping track. Sam looked behind him and saw Whitney who had a look that resembled someone when they are trying not to cry. He was confused and worried as just a couple hours ago, she was bouncing off the walls singing Eye of the Tiger without a care in the world.
He turned around as his brows furrowed just slightly. Dean came to a stop at a stop light, and he just so happened to turn his head in Sam's directions and saw his brother's thinking face on. "What's with the face?" Dean asked as Whitney's head shot up as she thought that her dad was talking to her.
When she saw that he wasn't talking to her but her Uncle Sam. She turned her head to look out the window that was covered in a drizzle of rain. It was oddly calming through the music that was blasting. Dean turned down the music a little, as when it was clear he continued to drive.
Sam looked back at Whitney who was now looking out the window of the impala, as when Whitney took a deep breath which got Dean's attention as the song was fading out in the first place. That is why he heard it. When he saw where it was coming, he slowed down a little in the impala. He took his right hand off the steering wheel and reached back for Whitney's leg.
When he touched his daughter's leg, she jumped so high that she could have touched the roof of the car. She panicked, so much that the car slightly shook. He watched her take a deep breath to calm herself down. Dean pulled into the motel where the three of them stayed at for the time being.
Sam immediately knew what to do. Get out and don't question it.
Sam got out of the car when it came to a stop, he went to the back seat which had their bags, and he grabbed Whitney's also. Before he ventured into the motel.
Dean put the impala in gear as Whitney was staring at her uncle leaving and to make sure that Whitney didn't try to make a break for it, he locked the doors. Whitney sighed knowing that she wasn't going to get out. She brought her knees to her chest as she didn't look up at her dad.
"That's a first. I thought you were going to get up her as soon as Sam got out." Dean says as he chuckled to himself as Whitney's lips attempted to smile but it looked painful. When he didn't hear Whitney laughing and or giggling, he slowly stopped thinking that she wasn't in a joking mood. Which he understood as sometimes he isn't either. He looked up at his daughter through the mirror and saw her glum look. He knew that something was bothering her.
"Okay, spill. What's wrong baby?" Dean asked, which of course there was no response. He muttered an "okay" before pulling out of the parking stall that he was in. He had an idea and hopefully it will work. He doesn't like seeing Whitney like this. She is supposed to be a happy kid who had already jumped upfront as soon as her uncle got out of the car. But here she is all glum and sad and a little panicky.
When he got to the diner which wasn't that wasn't that far from the motel. Whitney clenched her jaw as she got out of the car as she nearly hurried around her dad but just before she could get too far, he grabbed the hood of her hoodie and grabbed as she glared st him which made him smile innocently, like he didn't do anything.
But she didn't try to stop him and or try to escape as it wouldn't work. Dean opened the door of the diner and walked in, and he picked a spot that was a little bit away from the other people that was in the diner. He wanted to sit somewhere quiet and away from the other people.
The father and daughter are sitting from each other, as Whitney has her head in her hands. "Baby, what's wrong?" Dean asked his daughter, as she slowly looked up at him, but she didn't completely lift her head up at him. Dean's heart broke just slightly at the sight of his daughter, being like this. It looked like almost the light inside of her was gone.
"I couldn't sleep last night." Whitney admitted as it sounded almost like a whisper, as Dean had leaned forward and folded his hands. Dean looked at her, with slight furrowed eyebrows as lately she's been sleeping well, at least from what he has seen.
Then again, he doesn't know what happens after he falls asleep.
"Why's that, baby?" Dean asked Whitney, as she sighed, as just then she disappeared from her spot where she was just sitting just moments ago. Then her head appeared from under the table next to her dad. When she pulled herself up, she snuggled against her dad's side, as he wrapped his arm around her holding her close.
"I had a nightmare; it started off as a dream then it got scarier." Whitney says to Dean as she took a sip from her chocolate milk, which has a pink straw. Dean rubbed her back in efforts of telling her that it was okay.
"What was it about?" Dean asked her as he watched her being quiet for a couple moments, before she had the courage of saying anything.
How easy is it for a kid to tell their parent that they have nightmares of when their other parent died?
Whitney grabbed her stuffed elephant that was being held tightly in the little girl's hand. Dean knew that if Whitney wasn't really talking about it, then something must've happened. At least for it to that bad.
"Baby?" Dean asked as he heard little sniffles from Whitney which was making his heart break just a little more. He watched as she sadly took another sip from her chocolate milk. "Please?" He ushered his daughter.
He saw as she leaned her head against his side, as his arm never left the small of her back. "It was about mommy." Whitney finally tells him, as it nearly took the breath out of him, even when she just said, 'mommy'.
Now he was confused and slightly worried of why after two years that she had a nightmare about her mom. He didn't want to jump to conclusions of what exactly happened, but if it was a nightmare then it most definitely was a nightmare about what killed her mom.
"It was when she went bye-bye." Whitney says as Dean looked down at his daughter's head, as his hand left her back and immediately went to her shoulder to bring her closer to him, more than she already was.
"It's okay, baby. Mommy is in a place called Heaven. She is with the angels." Dean says even if Whitney doesn't really understand the grasp of Heaven. He knows that she understands the grasp of death, so that is a little bit of a good thing.
Whitney grabbed her dad's right hand and Dean gave it a little squeeze, as until the beloved pie came Whitney was drinking her chocolate milk. "Okay, one apple pie, and one chocolate pie. Is there anything else you need?" The waitress, asked as she also got forks for the father and daughter, as Dean knew that pie would cheer up Whitney at least just a little.
"Another chocolate milk, thanks." Dean says as the waitress, nodded her head as she went to get the chocolate milk for Whitney. When Dean turned to Whitney, she was already eating her pie. "Is it good, baby?" Dean asked her as she turned her head to her dad as she had some of the chocolate on the corner of her lip.
Dean was happy that Whitney was somewhat back to her happy self. That is all that matters. Moments later the waitress came back with another chocolate milk for Whitney. When the two Winchester's were done with their deliciousness of their pie, they decided to head back to the motel. Whitney of course sat in the passenger seat. She sipped her chocolate milk happily, as she worships chocolate anything, her favorite being chocolate milk.
Then again, she is six.
What do you expect.
Dean had his left hand on the steering wheel and the other hand holding Whitney's hand. Her stuffed bunny was on her lap. Whitney of course picked the cassette tape to listen.
Dean made a promise that when Sam isn't in the passenger seat then, Whitney can sit in the passenger seat. Whitney looked up as Dean was focused on the road as he was humming the song that was playing. Not even a minute later they arrived back at the motel, Whitney finished her chocolate milk.
Which made the little girl frown, because it was gone. She drunk every last drop of the chocolatey goodness. Dean looked over and saw a frown on his daughter's face, which made him to try not to laugh. "What's wrong, baby?" Dean asked his daughter, as Whitney stood on her tippy toes to reach the trash bin.
"There is a tragedy." Whitney says as Dean swept up his daughter with one swift movement of his hand and held her in his arms.
"Oh, no. What happened?" Dean says playing along with Whitney's tragedy. Even if he is trying not to laugh at it.
"Chocolate milk is gone. It is a chocolate milk tragedy. The world is ending." Whitney says to her dad which made a dramatic gasp to leave his lips.
"Oh, no, that is a tragedy baby. I'm so sorry." Dean says to Whitney, which made her frown fade.
They got to the motel room, and Dean opened the door. Sam was watching a crappy tv show and on his bed, he was reading a book.
When Sam saw his brother and niece come back, he smiled as Whitney waved a little.
"There is a tragedy." Dean says which got Sam's attention as from the tone of Dean's voice that it wasn't a supernatural tragedy which was a good thing. Sam isn't ready to go back to work just yet.
"What is the tragedy?" Sam asked playing along like Dean was when Whitney broke it to her dad as they left the impala.
"A chocolate milk tragedy." Dean says which made Sam gasp a little just not as dramatic as Dean was.
"Oh, no, that is horrible." Sam says as Whitney is star fished across her and her dad's bed.
"How about tomorrow we go to the diner and get breakfast." Dean says which made Whitney rise up from the bed as she was nodding her head. "Okay, it settles." Dean says as he flopped himself on the bed beside Whitney, as she didn't waste any time nearly jumping on her dad. "I love you, munchie." Dean says as he kissed Whitney's head, which made her giggle.
"I wuv you too." Whitney says in a fit of giggles which made Dean smile even more.
"No, I love you more." Dean says, as Whitney shook her head which made Dean nod his head.
Sam couldn't help but smile at the two as that is how he is with Spencer. They will have "i love you battles", it is a game that they have, which almost always ends in Sam tickling Spencer.
"Noooooooo, I love you more." Whitney said as she dragged on the "no", as she climbed on top of Dean as he held her sides.
"You're no fun." Dean says with a small fake pout as Whitney grabbed her dad's cheeks and squished them, which made Sam burst into laughter at seeing the two. Then Whitney plopped on top of her dad's stomach which made him grunt a little.
Whitney went into another fit of giggles as she thought this was funny. "I know, I get it from you." Whitney said which made Dean give his daughter a teasing glare.
"That's it. You know what. Come 'ere." Dean says, which made Whitney's smile slightly falter. Dean flipped so that Whitney is on the bottom. "I wanted to do this to make you smile. But now, I trapped you." Dean says as Sam covers his mouth to muffle his laughter.
Dean raises his hands then moves them to her sides, ss he had pinned Whitney to the bed. "Any last words before your tickle death?" Dean asked his daughter as she shook her head. "Speak now or forever hold your peace." He said before he slightly grazed his fingers onto her sides as she shook her head again.
The next thing that Sam heard was Whitney's giggles as she was squirming a little under her dad's grasp. The "tickle death" as Dean calls it soon ended when he saw Whitney's yawn, but she continued to fight her nap. Not even five minutes later, Whitney fell asleep, in her dad's arms.
Maybe soon Sam can see Mal and Spencer, when they have some time off. He misses his girls so much, as he wants to hold them like Dean holds Whitney in his arms.
But he knows that he has to wait for a little longer, as Mal and Spencer are in Seattle visiting Mal's parents.
