Today, like any other day, you went to your best friend's house to wake him up.

Today, like any other day, you wore the same black hoodie he had given you and the same worn-out white (they might as well be black looking at how scuffed they are) converse sneakers and your hair messy, undone.

Today, though, you came over at 11 in the night where the sky was dark and it was probably lights out for him already, judging by the pitch-black window of his room that you could see from his front door.
You stuck into the keyhole his house keys that Mrs. Baji had given you (because she entrusted you with being the official babysitter for her son as she probably gave up on that already. Nothing more...) and the lock made a small click as you turned the key as slow as you could.

As expected, Baji Keisuke lay, half his body on his bed and the other half sprawled on the ground in a deep slumber, like the lazy pig he was.
"Tch. Wake up, dumbass," you kicked him on the side.

Keisuke's eyebrows crinkled slightly, a groan falling past his lips as he shifted slightly, his whole body on the ground now. His left eye opened groggily, golden-brown orbs dull with sleepiness burning onto your annoyed face. He sat up with much difficulty and many 'oof's and 'ah's, hands rubbing at his eyes roughly.

"The hell do you want?" he grumbled, voice still husky (it was kinda sexy, you thought, and then you mentally slapped yourself.), before a lighter appeared in front of his face.

Click

The orange flame danced around in the dark, illuminating your features softly. (He almost did a double take at how pretty you looked with the faint orange tints on your absolutely-done-with-Baji-Keisuke face, pimples, eyebags and all.)

"Here to celebrate. C'mon, thank me." you chuckled, smiling widely as you placed the lighter down and took out something from a little white box.
Upon closer inspection (squinting in the dark room. Seriously, why do ya'll never switch on the lights?), he realised it was a chocolate muffin with a tiny candle on top.

Oh. My birthday.

Keisuke watched as you excitedly lay down on the floor and lit the candle on the cupcake, looking at him expectantly after you had done so. He rolled his eyes with a slight blush on his face, closing his eyes to make a wish and proceeding to snuff out the candle in one blow, returning the room into a state of near-complete darkness once again.

"There. Can I go back to sleep now? Its literally 11.30p.m. Stay over if you like." he huffed, feeling his way back to bed.
You reached out and grabbed him by the shirt, making him turn around. You proceeded to stuff the muffin (with the candle removed, obviously) into his mouth and giggled at his muffled complains as he thrashed about, nearly kicking you in the face.

It was nearly twelve and the both of you were sitting by Keisuke's large sliding window, side by side with shoulders touching, a shared scarf wrapped around both of your necks keeping you warm. You took turns taking bites from the muffin, savouring the chocolatey taste between each other.

"Remind me again why I decided to stay up with your stupid ass."

"Because you love me."

He hated to admit it. He really did, but a little part of him agreed wholeheartedly when you said that. The little part that always made his heart clench whenever he saw you smiling at him, the little part of him that willed him fight any guy that got close to you, and the little part of him that kinda sorta wanted to kiss you.

Nope. Not the time for this now, stupid brain.

"Keisuke?"

"..."

"Keisuke. I'm talking to you, dude."

"..."

"Keisuke...you okay?"

There it was. The soft, sweet tone of voice that made him feel like crying of happiness and screaming into his pillow.

"Wanna know what i wished for just now?"

"Uh...sure?"

Keisuke unwrapped the scarf around his neck and put it around yours, bundling up about half of your face in the process. (It kinda gave you butterflies, but that was probably because he was barely nice to you to this extent.)
He turned to the side, sitting with his legs curled to his chest and head buried in his knees, back facing you.

"I wished...that you loved me back."

Silence.

You chuckled, a light airy sound that sent shivers down his spine.

"Looks like your wish came true."

Keisuke turned around at the speed of light at hugged you so tight you might explode, and you were thankful for the scarf that covered your cheeks so he wouldn't see the red on them.

Then he tugged it down, and clumsily pressed his lips onto yours.

It was probably the best birthday present he ever got in his life.
