~22~

"There are few who remember the fire." Mother Mountain says.

"It was a dream where I saw the figure." I say.

"The fire can often take the shape of the phoenix." Mother Mountain says.

My eyes widen. So that's where I saw it. My memories. I remember. I remember! I remember its wings as it... burned me alive. I grip my shoulders. Am I really a ghost? Have I died and was brought back in this form. I can't help but shed a few tears.

"Wei Ying." Lan Zhan puts his hand on my shoulder.

"I know where you can find this beast, but it will be treacherous." She says.

"What else is new?" I mutter.

"Wei Ying, don't be rude." Lan Zhan says.

I roll my eyes. He glares at me.

"Look to those mountains." She turns her head.

We turn. All my travels, I've never been over there. The mountains are black as ash. The smell is of burning flesh and wood. No bird ever flies there. I don't go there. I never go there. But... if it is a way to break this curse on me. I have to try.

"Okay." I say.

I shoot forward but I feel something grab my hand. I turn.

"I'm coming with you." Lan Zhan says.

"Boys, don't uncounted an old man with a taste of adventure." The old man taps his staff down.
