I shielded my eyes. The sun was blinding. No clouds to be seen.

The heat was weltering, the cicadas weeping in agreement.

Summer was at its highest crescendo, enveloping us 

in a heat that brought dreams of cooler days.

The countryside stretched into the infinite, the dirt cool

between my toes of the well-trodden back road.

A glint in the distance caught my attention. A white car, mark-less, impeccable.

It was out of place, a shining jewel laying in the drab dirt.

From the car, emerged a girl. 

A girl with hair as radiant as the sun.
