Chapter 3

From here on out, I will only do a beginning author note if I have to.

Pit awoke the next morning having nearly forgotten about the angel that had visited him. His mind immediately went to the relocation charm that he was still holding on to. He still held it close to his heart as if protecting it from someone or something. A blush rose to his cheeks as he thought of that angel, (y/n). She had been so kind to him despite them technically being enemies. She hadn't harmed him nor had she tried forcing him to believe her.

"This isn't the time to be fawning over some girl. Shouldn't you be figuring out a place to hide that thing," the voice in his head spoke. It startled him since he had forgotten about it in the moment that he'd been thinking about the charm.

"That's not what I was..." Pit muttered. His face was heated again and he silenced himself before he said anything else. The voice was becoming increasingly distinguished from his thoughts since yesterday. He chose to ignore it for now although he did listen to the advice to hide the charm. Before he left his room, Pit slipped it under his pillow.

"Good morning, Pit." Palutena scared him half to death as he left his room. Usually she was busy with something regarding her domain's prospects. It was very rare for her to visit him first thing in the morning.

"Good morning, Lady Palutena. What brings you over here so early?" he asked. He was thankful that he was calm although his heart was still beating wildly from the scare.

"Is it wrong for me to wish my most special angel a good morning?" Palutena said with a smile.

"Of course not. You just don't do it very often. I was a little surprised to see you is all," he said as he scratched the back of his head. He felt a chill shoot through him when Palutena looked at him.

"You forgot to put your laurel crown back on. I told you not to go anywhere without it. When did you start taking it off in your sleep? You usually never take if off," Palutena said.

"It fell off by accident while you were asleep. Tell her you didn't notice."

"I didn't even realize it was gone! It must have fallen off while I was asleep. It's a good thing you were here to notice," Pit said with a slight laugh. Just before he was about to go back into his room, Palutena stopped him by holding an arm out to block his path.

"You didn't take it off on purpose did you? It's okay if you did. You don't have to lie about it. I could always get you a new one if that one is bothering you," Palutena said. She was still smiling, yet this time Pit felt something off about that smile that she always gave him. It could have just been his sudden paranoia, but he doubted that.

"Why would I lie about my laurel crown? Isn't lying bad anyway? I'm sure it's just on my bed somewhere. I wear it so much that I didn't even notice it was missing," Pit said. He really did feel bad about lying, but Palutena had never suspected him of telling a lie before. It scared him that she was suddenly so suspicious of him.

"You're right. Lying is bad. Of course you wouldn't lie about something so important." She moved her arm out of his way but kept speaking. "Besides, there's something I wanted to show you anyway." Fear returned to him as Palutena stood at his door and waited for him to retrieve his laurel crown.

Luckily for him, he had left it on his bed right under the disarrayed sheets the night before. "There it is!" he said as he found it.

"You know what it does, right? You remember why I have you wear it all of the time, right?" Palutena said from where she still calmly stood at his door. Pit didn't like where this conversation was going.

"Of course I remember. It's to keep me safe and allow me to be able to call for help if I'm ever in danger," Pit answered as he put the laurel crown back on. Palutena sighed.

"So then it's happened again. Didn't want to do this again, but I refuse to lose you," she muttered to herself. Pit was terribly confused by those words.

"Lady Palutena, what are you talling about?" He suddenly felt trapped and in danger.

"Pit, run. Whatever she's planning on doing can't be anything good. Now would be a good time to use that gift of yours," the voice in his head spoke.

"He talked to you just now, didn't he," Palutena stated. She stared at Pit who was too disoriented to take action. How had she known about the voice? "He's you but a different you. I've seen him before. It's not the first time he's done this. It always gets worse when you start listening to him. You should never listen to him." She held her hand out in front of her and a large jar was summoned. In it were glowing spheres of light varrying in color.

Both Pit and the supposed second self remained silent. Palutena seemed somewhat distraught after looking at him again. "Your wings are already starting to turn. They're usually the first to go. You never tell me about the symptoms no matter how many times this happens," she said sadly.

"The charm. Use the charm before she does something to you. Pit, listen to me just this one last time. I don't know what she's talking about, but I can tell she's trying to get rid of me. I need the chance to figure out who I am!"

He didn't want to hear that voice at the moment. "What do I care? If you're really another me, then it should be obvious who you are," Pit thought in response. The other version of himself fell silent and Pit felt terrrible for thinking such things. He never would even dare speak to anyone like that, so it caught him off guard.

"Lady Palutena, what are you going to do with that?" Pit asked refering to the jar she held. He recieved no answer. "You know about what happened last night, don't you," Pit concluded.

"I'm not letting you leave with her. I'd likely lose you forever if that were to happen. I'm already having to change you back each time that other you surfaces. You were a perfect angel when I first met you. You didn't hold anything back until I started making you repress all that is bad. It's my fault that you're like this. I'm so sorry," Palutena spoke. She had tears in her eyes but so did Pit.

"You've been lying to me...all this time? You're not really a goddess of good are you? (Y/n) warned me. And he did to...that other me. Who exactly are you?" Pit said as he began to back away from her despite there being plenty of space between them already.

"You won't have to worry. I'll make it to where things are normal again. You won't have to worry about that other you anymore. I'll see to it that (y/n) doesn't ever bother you again. I'll wish you a good morning every morning. I'll do things differently this time, I promise," Palutena said as she stepped into the room and closed the door behind her.

When she did, Pit noticed one of his feathers float towards the ground. It was as black as any other dark angel's feather would be. He caught it before it got too far and held it as he looked at the feather with disbelief. It all made sense now. The voice had been the other version of himself just as Palutena had said. The reflection he'd seen must have been him as well. And the oblivious angel that Palutena had mentioned...

"Stay away from me," Pit whimpered. His tears began to silently flow down his face as he shook his head in denial. He reached behind him and picked up his Palutena Bow which he had lay next to his bed the night before. "You're not the Palutena I know. You're not her..."

Palutena seemed hurt by his words but she frowned at him. "Put that weapon down. I'm not going to keep arguing with you like this. I'm turning you back so you can be the innocent angel you've always been."

Pit refused to accept this but there wasn't much he could do. He knew Palutena could teleport to him at any moment, so he had to do something to distract her if only momentarily so he could reach the charm. "Any ideas?" Pit questioned but he didn't expect to get an answer especially after what he'd thought earlier.

"Hurt her feelings. You seem to be good at saying harsh things." Pit could almost taste the salt in his other self's voice. It was well deserved although not very pleasant.

"I'm not your innocent angel. You're not even my mother," Pit said. The statement even hurt himself to say and Palutena stared at him in shock. It was the perfect distraction. Without hesitation, he'd reached under his pillow and retrieved the relocation charm.

Palutena was seconds too late to stop him as he broke the pretty charm and found himself suddenly outside the temple. He fell to the ground, and his senses were scrambling to get themselves together. He saw nothing but grass in front of him when he was able to focus on his surroundings. When he looked back, he caught sight of his bow before seeing Palutena's domain right behind him.

"I haven't seen this side of things in a long time," Pit muttered as he grabbed the Palutena Bow and stood up. (Y/n) was nowhere in sight which worried him since she had promised to meet him. The sound of the warning horn sent his mind into panic.

"Don't panic. No one has noticed us yet. You're still safe," his other self said. "But don't just stand there either. The closer you are to that place, the easier it is for them to find you." He was right but his advice was a bit too late.

Pit was a flightless angel, only able to fly if granted the ability by Palutena. She could even control where he flew which is exactly what she did now. Against his will, his wings began to drag him back towards Palutena's domain.

"No! This isn't fair!" Pit yelped as he tried to catch hold of the grass nearly dropping his bow. That was when his other self practically yelled at him to use the bow to keep him grounded. Unfortunately, Pit didn't understand what he meant by that.

"Pit! I'm almost there! Just hang on!" someone called. He saw the six winged angel, (y/n), heading towards him as he was being dragged. He was nearly off the ground at this point and now his very life was in danger as arrows rained down from the skies.

"Are they crazy?! They'll hit you too!" Perhaps they knew this as well, but the arrows kept falling without failing to harm him. One struck his arm and another landed in the center of one of his wings making him yelp in pain. He saw (y/n) land but she kept running towards him despite the unflattering arrows. Pit watched in dismay as she didn't even flinch while the arrows pelted her wings like unrelenting sunlight. She reached him just before he got too close to Palutena's domain to be stopped. She caught hold of his outstretched hand and pulled him towards her.

"You couldn't have chosen a better time? They saw me coming," (y/n) joked.

"She's suffering." That much was obvious. Pit had no way to stop the arrows and he could tell that (y/n) couldn't fly with so much damage being done to her wings.

"(Y/n)..." Pit began but she shook her head at him and pulled him towards her before turning her back on the arrows. Her wings began to softly glow with a light similar to his own wings.

"Palutena can't keep this up forever, but as long as I'm concious, I can. She'll have to stop providing your wings with power and when she does, I'll get us out of here, so until then..." she was saying. An arrow landed at the center of her back right between a pair of her wings effectively stopping her explanation. She pulled them both to the ground and used herself to shield him. The glow of her wings kept Pit from being dragged back to Palutena against his will.

"Stop it. Don't risk your life like this. You don't even know me well enough. You're going to die," Pit said. (Y/n) shook her head at him.

"Would you rather these arrows hit you instead? I'm used to this. It's not my first time being attacked. I've taken hits worse than this trying to fight that goddess and her forces," she said. Her feathers were tainted with red now, but the arrows had stopped and so did Palutena's attempt to force Pit to return.

"(Y/n), you have one chance to return Pit to me. I'll spare you since you've managed to survive this long. I trained you so well those years ago," Palutena could be heard saying from afar. (Y/n) moved away from Pit and collapsed next to him after hearing Palutena.

"(Y/n), wake up. Please don't die," Pit cried as he shook her shoulder.

"She isn't dead. And don't shake her. She's already hurt bad enough," his second self hissed. Pit was quick to retract his hand.

"Hey, Pit. Hold my hand for a bit. I've got one more relocation charm on hand. I'm starting to see a light...it's pretty," (y/n) muttered. Pit began to cry realizing that she was likely dying.

"Pit, don't cry for her. She is your enemy. This couldn't have happened very differently," Palutena spoke. She seemed to be fooled along with Pit for a momemt until she realized something. (Y/n) was still breathing and she had six wings to help her hide any sort of potential escape plan.

By then it was too late to stop them. Pit was once again in a new place with new surroundings and very motion sick. He snapped his eyes shut in response to the headache he got from the sudden scenery shift. He was in a different area of grass, but it was much darker and for some reason, the sun was being blocked by thick clouds when he looked up to search for it.

"Nice. Looks like my plan didn't entirely fail after all. Didn't expect that arrow barrage though," (y/n) muttered as she let go of Pit's hand and pulled herself off the ground.

"You're okay? You need to be healed immediately. You're hurt," Pit said as he helped her stand. She nodded in agreeance.

"I'll be okay. I have some more relocation charms hidden in the place we're going, so I can get myself some help soon enough," (y/n) said. When she spoke, her wings suddenly vanished, dispersing into particles of light. Pit was too shocked to say anything and she certainly noticed. "That's normal. I can make my wings disappear when I'm not using them. One of the perks to being granted the powers of a goddess," (y/n) dismissively explained. She seemed far less hurt now that her wings were out of sight.

"Thank you for saving me," Pit shyly muttered. He was grateful for her selflessness and was glad that she was going to be okay. He was a little curious about her supposed goddess granted power, but he would ask about that later once she was in better condition. For now, he let her lead him to wherever his destination of safety would be.
