Chapter 1

The story begins and the start of something special awaits...

He ran through the temple halls in a hurry as he searched for Palutena, his goddess and adoptive mother. Although Palutena advised that her angels not run inside the temple, no one dared to stop him. They knew what would happen to them if they so much as touched Pit without Palutena's permission so they didn't risk it.

"Lady Palutena! Look! Look at what I found!" Pit proudly exclaimed as he found her standing near a group of angels within the temple. In his hand were three flowers of the same type that he'd never seen bloom in Palutena's domain before. He held the flowers out as he got near her. Despite her being in the middle of an important discussion among the army leaders, she stopped what she was doing and gave Pit every bit of attention she had.

"They're beautiful. I don't think I've ever seen any flowers like these!" Palutena lied. She had planted the flowers herself knowing that Pit was a curious angel. Pit knew nothing of this and discovered the flowers just as Palutena had hoped he would.

"They're for you," Pit said with a shy smile as he handed Palutena the flowers. She smiled at him and hugged him after taking the flowers.

"I'll go look for some more!" Pit exclaimed before dashing off. He didn't have much else to do, so he spent his time enjoying the world he lived in and sharpening his fighting skills when no one was paying attention.

"Don't go too far! Stay near the temple okay!" Palutena called before returning her attention to her meeting.

Pit knew that his world was limited to Palutena's domain and that there were other places outside of it that he had yet to see, but Palutena had forbid him to leave. For his safety, he had to stay within Palutena's immediate reach so that she could save him from anyone who tried to harm him. She'd told him that he was a target that Medusa would do anything to get her hands on, so he believed her because she was Palutena. She would never lie to him. Pit himself didn't want to be taken away from his home despite his strong urge to see the rest of the world again.

He had once been able to roam the world freely since he had no goddess to answer to, but that also meant he had to look after himself, something he wasn't so good at. Those hadn't been very good years for him until Palutena called for his help.

"Are you really okay with that? You've always been trapped here like this. Don't you think it's time to get your freedom back." Pit froze upon hearing the thought in his head. This wasn't the first time he'd think something that directly challenged his pure thoughts of obedience. Many times he could ignore them and be okay, but this particular thought didn't just stop there. "How bad could it possibly be out there? You were able to fight a whole army by yourself when you first rescued Palutena. What's wrong now? Don't you believe in yourself?"

"Of course I do..." Pit found himself muttering aloud with a slight pout. He'd never spoken to Palutena about his occasional "bad thoughts" since he feared the thoughts would have a worse affect on him if he spoke of them more.

Ignoring the ideas, Pit continued on towards the gardens around the temple. He spotted his favorite area in the garden and rushed over to the beautiful fountain to marvel at its beauty. The clear waters allowed him to see his reflection, and he was eager to look into it as he always did.

He was met by a stranger when he looked at the water. At first, Pit was confused and ran his hand across the water's surface. Once the water had calmed once more, he realized that the image was the same. The reflection startled him causing him to jump back from the water in panic.

"Who was...?" Pit mumbled. He stopped himself when another thought surfaced in his mind. "How long do you intend to hide this from her?"

Pit knew something needed to be said about it. The thoughts and now the eerie reflection weren't making sense to him. He quickly turned to leave, but something caught his eye. Stopping in the middle of the garden, he spotted the odd speck in the sky. Off in the distance he could see more of the black dots in the sky that he was sure weren't there before. Pit stared at them wondering what they could be. He had never seen such a phenomenon take place in Palutena's domain. His thoughts were suddenly inturpted by the sound of the warning horn.

The only time that sound was heard was during tests or whenever Palutena's domain was under attack. The domain had never been under attack and Pit was always told when they would do a practice run. He froze from the sudden shock of the situation despite his mind wanting him to move, to run back to Palutena for protection.

"Pit! Pit, where are you? Come back inside the temple," Palutena's voice said through the laurel crown he wore. Her voice snapped him out of shock and he ran back to the temple just as he intended to do from the beginning. As he made his way there, other angels of Palutena's army ran the opposite way with weapons in hand. They all avoided Pit not daring to get too close to him.

Panic clouded his senses as he realized that a full battle was about to break out. It had been so long since he himself had to fight. Sure, he had trained to make sure his skills never dulled, but fighting someone was different than training.

"Pit, there you are. I'm so glad you're safe," Palutena said in relief as she found Pit pulling him into a hug. He felt safe around the goddess who had promised him eternal protection.

"Lady Palutena, are they after me? They've never directly attacked us before," Pit spoke doing his best to think as logically as he could. The black specks must have been angels from Medusa's army. No doubt they'd be led by Pandora since that's what Palutena spoke of when she mentioned the forces of darkness.

"Don't worry. No one will hurt you. I'll keep you safe. Do not leave this temple no matter what. Go to your room, and stay there until I come get you. It'll be safe to go outside soon enough," Palutena said. Her staff materialized in her hand and her shield appeared on her opposite arm.

"What about you? Will you be okay, mother?" Pit asked immediately silencing himself for his mistake. He accidentally called her the title she'd asked not to be called. He could see her wince at the given title but she said nothing of it.

"I'm a goddess. I'll be just fine," she spoke before dismissing him. He looked to Palutena in apology knowing that she'd probably tell him again later on not to call her his mother anymore. She never explained why she preferred not to be called that, but Pit never thought to ask aside from the strange thoughts he got.

The sounds of battle began to make their way to his ears and he responded by quickly following Palutena's instruction. He ran to his room in the temple and searched for his weapon, the one he trained with and used to help him rescue Palutena.

Pit found the Palutena Bow hidden under his bed and held on to it as he sat in a corner watching for anyone that might harm him. For a while all he could hear was the raging battle outside the temple that shook from the aftershocks of it. Pit found it unpleasant that so much fighting would be because of him. When the trembles got too close for comfort, he winced. Pit hadn't gotten any further instructions from Palutena, so he would stay put no matter how much the temple shook.

"Are you sure? Staying where you are isn't really helping Palutena protect you. Can't you fight? You have that weapon for a reason." The thoughts began again. Pit felt his blood go cold as he noticed a slight difference in this thought. It didn't sound like him. "Why not help her? You can fight on your own. She needs protection too," the thought continued. Its tone changed again, yet Pit no longer found it strange.

His thoughts were making sense. Palutena may have been a goddess, but she also needed to be protected. While she was fighting, she'd have no one to protect her if he wasn't there. "You saved her didn't you? Who will save her if you are here hiding in a corner?"

Pit left his corner and snuck out of his room deciding to listen to his thoughts. Or at least they seemed to be his thoughts. There was nothing wrong with wanting to protect his mother, so he didn't think it was wrong to leave his room against Palutena's instructions.

No one was around and the sounds from outside kept the sound of Pit's steps from being heard. As he neared the main foyer of the temple, he froze and slowly backed up until he was hiden behind a pillar. Palutena stood in the center of the foyer waiting for someone.

Fear kept Pit from taking a look, but he made sure to stay where he was just in case Palutena needed his help. A thud could be heard in the temple, but Pit wasn't curious enough to see what had caused the noise.

"So you were waiting for me. That must mean you're the only one here to stop me," an unfamiliar voice said.

"Are you implying that you can defeat me? That's rather bold even for you. I'd choose my words carefully if I were you," Palutena spoke. Pit could hear the warning tone in her voice.

"I wouldn't be here if I couldn't back up my statements. You shouldn't be so sure of yourself," the same voice spoke. Curiousity got the best of him as Pit carefully began to peek in order to get a better look. He was stunned from both fear and awe when he spotted the angel only for confusion to immediately invade his thoughts. She was clothed in a deep ominous gray, yet her wings were just as pure white as his own. All six of them were intriguing in their own way.

"That's right. I almost forgot that Medusa told you all of those damaging lies. An angel of your power shouldn't be on her side. It's still such a shame," Palutena sneered. The angel huffed in annoyance at her words.

"Medusa didn't lie when she told me that you were the one responsible for the near annihilation of humans. I'm more worried about the angels that you've been deceiving. I wonder, do they know that you've been trying to end all other life outside of your domain?" the angel spoke as her eyes began to glow with rage.

"That's none of your business, but since it's you, I'll let you know that only one of them is oblivious," Palutena said as she twirled her staff around and took a fighting stance. Pit was definately confused, but he also couldn't ignore what this foreigner was implying. Palutena, his mother, had planned to destory all other life?

"I'm here for the three sacred treasures, but I'll be sure to pay your oblivious angel a visit. You won't get away with this. The light doesn't belong to just you!" the angel said before rushing at Palutena with her last statement. Pit was too stunned to move. He watched as the angel dashed at Palutena with a hand full of flames. Palutena easily dodged her attacks by teleporting.

"I didn't think you came here to dance around. Why don't you actually land a hit? Then maybe I'll give you a hint about the treasures' location," Palutena taunted as she twirled out of the way of the angel's attacks.

"Fine by me. I'll find them regardless!" the angel retorted as she aimed a finger gun at Palutena's face and shot at her. The bullet of light bounced off of Palutena's shield and shot back at the angel who barely dodged it. "That annoying shield," the angel growled.

"Oh my. That almost hit me. Although it seems you have other things to worry about," Palutena spoke as several of her centurions appeared. The angel didn't seem phased by the extra amount of enemies. "There's no way I plan to let you leave. Unlike your allies, you're probably the only one that would actually go out of your way to tell my oblivious angel things he shouldn't know. I'll see to it that you not leave my domain alive should you decide to resist," Palutena stated. Pit felt his blood run cold at those words. Who was this oblivious angel and why did it seem like Palutena was the "bad guy" in the situation?

"I'd rather die by my own terms, thank you very much. Besides, I'm only here for the treasures anyway. I'll only need to locate them for now. If you want to fight, we can set up a play date some other time," the angel spoke. "Right now, you're all in my way!" The angel spun around scattering flames from her hand until they surrounded her. For a split second, Pit stared at the flames a bit too long and accidentally caught the angel's gaze as she looked out from between the flickering colors.

It was as if time froze. Pit stared at her even though he feared she might attack him or give him away. Instead, he saw her smile ever so slightly before the flames blocked his view again. Then she was gone.

Palutena seemed to suspect this and didn't bat an eye at the mysterious angel's disappearance. "Search the temple. I know she isn't gone just yet. Check the treasury first. The three sacred treasures won't be there, but she doesn't know that."

Pit knew then that he needed to leave. He backed away from the pillar he had been behind and dashed away. The sounds of battles still raging on outside masked the sound of his footsteps once again. "Something isn't right. Something is wrong. Something bad is about to happen. Something is about to happen to me." Pit wasn't sure if they were his his normal thoughts or bad thoughts. Regardless, they were right about one thing for sure. Something was definitely wrong.
