✶。࣪˖ 𝂅⠀𝄒 abridged background. hui was born in may 2000 to liu qi-xin and xu luo-luo. raised in the rural outskirts of northwestern china, their parents were farmers who generally lived disconnected from the outside. up until 2004, not much happened with the three, and it was sort of just the kind of beige-boredom you'd expect. in 2004, however, a machinery incident injuried luo-luo and left him paralyzed from the waist down. luoluo turned depressive, leaving qi-xin to take care of hui and him. without their main source of income, qi-xin picked up some odd jobs.

✶。࣪˖ 𝂅⠀𝄒 background information. xinyu is introduced simultaneously with january in episode 5 ❪ ❛ cellophane heart, gummy legs ❜ ❫, as the two of them work as hosts for bluepool nightclub, however, their characters are not revealed until later in episode 8 ❪ ❛ heso no o ❜ ❫. with the club being built into silent sun itself, ri-o is naturally drawn towards it once her career kicks off. xinyu rises as a social media personality ❪ under the same stage name, ❛ amiba ❜ ❫ following a heavily publicized relationship with youjin, and becomes a sort of ❛ frenemy ❜ of ri-o as a result. throughout the first season, xinyu's plotline is left mostly dubious and up to background concentration.

✶。࣪˖ 𝂅⠀𝄒 personality. outwardly, xinyu comes off as bubbly, smiley, and generally has a very lovely exterior. it is with this character that she becomes popular at her nightclub, and as an internet personality. internally, however, she rarely stays optimistic for long and falls into intensity, internalized chaos, and insecurity. xinyu's persona deeply collides with her true nature, and she uses the glamor of it to suppress any negative feelings that might come her way. she is dependent on others and becomes attached easily ❪ as observed in her relationship with youjin ❫, to the point of obsessivism; she often says drastic, or unrealistic things to prevent the other from leaving. at the same time, xinyu fights this dependence in order to be free of social disapproval. the acidity of these conflicting emotions often send her sprawling into bouts of melancholy. she is the kind of person who is excessively orientated on romance, who needs to see themselves as special through the lens of love.

✶。࣪˖ 𝂅⠀𝄒 throughout the episodes, xinyu quickly becomes more illogical, impulsive, and defensive as she comes into the spotlight more and more, her reputation inflating. the mask of loveable-ness slips, revealing an openly vindictive and reckless, sort of self-manipulative, version of herself. xinyu is torn between what fame calls her to, and what she already knows; friendship, familiarity, and desire clash loudly in her character. along with her general emotions, her want to climb the hierarchy is poorly concealed. without any euphemisms, she doesn't market herself as a good person and, instead, focuses on status ❛ regardless of [ her ] actions. ❜ xinyu's materialistic, strong willed, persuasive behavior causes her to conflict with several other characters.

✶。࣪˖ 𝂅⠀𝄒 specifically, it is described as ❛ bitchy, ❜ ❛ passive-aggressive. ❜ xinyu, though, feels she is misunderstood by most people, and is, again, at a conflict within herself. slowly, she ❛ feels [ her ] body slipping off [ her ] soul. [ her ] soul is good. [ her ] body isn't, ❜ that, as her external self becomes absorbed with beauty, her soul rottens with the ever-closer waft of death. despite facing death, and losing, once ❪ at youjin's hand ❫, xinyu never shows intimidation nor fear, only anxiousness and vengeance.

❚ ゅ⭑ color name ──cherry gummy chokehold ⍈ the color #00b859 is a lush green that shares a home with tones like ❛ spring green ❜ and ❛ emerald. ❜ the name of the episode in which xinyu is introduced, ❛ cellophane heart, gummy legs ❜ is partially named because of its relationship with this color. at bluepool nightclub, the lights on the floor glow a hue similar to #00b859; with the red ❪ cherry ❫ overhead lights, xinyu comments that everyone looks like multiflavored gummy candy, all different yet in the same package. eventually, xinyu finds herself choking on that same sweet, sticky uniqueness⎯ it has her in a chokehold; as for hui, they similarly find themself tripping up on the razors in the candy that they've made of life.
❚ ゅ⭑ object ── scissors ⍈ in xinyu's story, the scissors represent the severing of ties and old relations, the liberation of being seperated from something that once made a whole. in both xinyu and hui's stories, like everything must do at some point, things come undone. things are changed, transformed, cut in half── injury, ruin, hazardous. the scissors being a weapon completes the double feature; it is instrumental in xinyu's first death. the question lies in whether xinyu is the scissors or not; she separates people, lives, and relationships easily, but is also separated, fame driving a wedge between her body and soul.
❚ ゅ⭑ element ── movement ⍈ the formation of the word movement has different meanings across languages, and reflects ❛ change ❜ and ❛ motion.❜ as for the first one, xinyu takes the smallest choices and inflates them into large changes, rowing waves, blowing tornadoes. movement is integral in such a life as xinyu's, needing to constantly stay on top of trends and news and drama and whatever else. this is also true for hui's life, since they stay in constant ❛ motion ❜ all the time, so restless like they'll die if they stop moving. neither of them could function without movement; dependence is dangerous.
