April 8th 2021・2
It was a great day. The morning practice went without any quips between the first yearー ignoring the fact that the two sides ignored each otherー and the first half of classes ended without any hitch too.
It was now lunch time and all his friends were gathering around in their spot. He bought some noodles and milkbread for himself and some extra meat pieces because he doesn't trust Makki enough to not eat them all from his.
It was all good.
"Where's Kageyama?"
Kind of atleast.
"He should be here by now. I walked by his classroom before coming here but couldn't find him anywhere." Mattsun said with a hand under his chin looking surprised. There was literally no reason to be surprised. It's not like Tobio chan always has to eat with them. Maybe he made himself some friends!
"Why were you walking outside his classroom? He can walk himself here. He isn't a little kid or anything." he couldn't help but roll his eyes.
"Maybe I like walking with him captain. Can't I walk my cute underclassmen to lunch?" Matsukawa had the audacity to smirk at him. He just met the little demon a while back, since when did he become his underclassmen??
Not like Tooru cares of course.
"Stop being a piece of trash Shittykawa. Not everyone is a shitty senpai like you." Iwaizumi chided from beside.
"Excuse me!? I'm the legit best senpai. Not my fault Tobio chan is annoying. And ugly." he scoffed stuffing his mouth with the sweet and spicy noodles. He is not wasting his lunch time talking about the raven haired setter.
"You're the only ugly one here. Anyway why is he still not here? Did something happen or what?" Iwa chan questioned with his signature furrowed eye look. Gosh they overreact so much.
He is suppose to be the dramatic one here.
"He was alright in the morning. He didn't sound any different. Even the practice was good. He should have been here." Makki shrugged continuing to look around the cafeteria.
"Maybe he FINALLY has some friends his age and he could stop hanging out with third years. He shouldn't have been here anyway." he said starting to get annoyed with the others. They shouldn't be this concerned.
THEY JUST MET HIM.
Except Iwa chan but he isn't the one who got trailed around by Tobio chan back at Kitagawa. They were never really close too.
Maybe.
Wait, were they close?
"Are you sure Trashykawa?"
Not that it would matter that much.
"About?" he slurped his noodles down. He doesn't care if they are close.
"Are you sure he shouldn't have been here?" the ace gave him a pointed look. What does he have to do with that brat not coming to lunch?
He just wants to have his food without his friends pestering about a kid they HARDLY know.
"Of course-" oh.
He didn't bring the bento.
He scowled before hurrying down his noodles and getting up. "Of course Iwa chan. He isn't."
"If you say so." Iwaizumi got back to his own lunch as he excused himself to meet up with the girls waiting for him. He isn't actually gonna meet up with them though and the upward brow his best friend sent had told him that he knew it too.
He is just gonna eat his milkbread in peace outside.
It's not his fault that Tobio decided to not come to lunch. In a way it's a good thing that he didn't. He needed to have friends his year. It's not a bad thing that Tooru didn't make him a bento if it's like that.
Although having lunch with him wasn't bad. He almost liked it if wasn't for his friends.
Not that he'll have lunch with the younger setter alone.
"Oikawa san." speak of the devil.
There he was, sitting in the bench beside the vending machine. His annoying kouhai.
Alone..?
"There you are, Tobio chan. You must have done some sort of magic to make my friends this worried about your absence. They are looking for you." he still doesn't like it at all.
"Huh?" the blue eyed male said looking confused.
"I have no idea how you're this empty in the head. Whatever. You didn't come to lunch. You're here alone too. Why is that?" he asked again indignantly. He desperately doesn't want to admit but something about the brat sitting here alone outside and not coming to lunch with them irks him.
"I prefer this." the raven mutters like always.
"Speak up Tobio chan. You don't seem to have a problem with volume when you're in court." Tooru knew it's a shitty thing to say. But he doesn't know just why he had to say it.
As expected the other scowled and got up from the bench, "Are you just looking for ways to pick on me? You didn't even like me having lunch there. I did you a favor."
Shit. Shit.
That's not the case.
At all.
"Wait Iー" he groaned not knowing how to to tackle the situation. He doesn't hate having Tobio there.
It's okay. It's not bad.
"The world doesn't revolve around me. The others want you there so why does it matter if I don't?" he scowled frustrated with how it got out of hand this soon. Something about the younger always breaks his composure.
He hates that.
"I'm not gonna go there against your liking." Tobio answered with a similar scowl as his own plastered in his face. He always has his way of getting on Tooru's nerves both on and off court.
"Why does my opinion even matter??" he snarled gripping his fist white.
"BECAUSE I CARE ABOUT YOUR GODDAMN OPINION OKAY?"
His fist loosened and eyes widen as his shoulders sag. Tobio chan cares about what he thinks? He really does? The blue eyed teen has turned away from him so he can't look at his face. Is he serious?
He cares about Tooru's opinion enough to not care about Makki, Mattsun and even Iwa chan's presence?
He should know this. Hell he does believe it. But hearing it directly from Tobio is more of an ego trip for him.
Maybe a bit more than an ego triー actually no never. It's just a good feeling. That's it.
Nothing more than a ego trip.
The bell rang indicating the end of their break time. Tooru always loved the old fashioned bell his school had instead of the electrical one.
"I should go." Kageyama said quietly before scuttering away.
"Wait uhh," he started and cringed at how awkward that sounded. Stupid Tobio chan is rubbing off on him.
"Did you eat?" he asked the other who now wore a red face.
Cute.
"Yeah...?" Tobio answered looking more unsure than him.
"Are you asking me or some invisible entity roaming around here? It's a yes or no question." he huffed at the almost endearing pout he received.
"Um I had a heavy breakfast. I'm not hungry. The class is about to start Oikawa san. I should go. I'll see you at the practice." Tobio said as he ran back before he could say something.
The brat was a horribly bad liar. It was evident that he didn't brought lunch today. It brought him back to the letter and the task.
"It isn't my fault, is it?" he thought for a second before shaking his head. The idea was absurd. It wasn't his fault.
If Tobio was actually hungry he would have bought lunch even if he didn't brought it from home. He is responsible for his own appetite and stomach after all.
Although something about the raven who usually had a big appetite not having lunch didn't particularly sit right.
Tobio chan will eat if he's hungry.
It's not his job to make sure of that.
