I watch as the train soars down the tracks the Sky People built. There's two planes flying on each side of it. I wait for my orders as I reposition myself on the branch I'm waiting upon.
We've been taking them out one by one, and Jake has finally let me help after the first few times. The explosions from our attacks were effecting us and burning up the forest too much so my job is to contain them. I've gotten better at it after some practice, but if the explosion is too big I can't contain it all at once.
"Ground team, go," Jake orders. "Kamari, be ready," He tells me through the communication devices he has us wear.
I swallow hard as I continue to wait, the anticipation gnawing away. When the Sky People first returned I was so panicked and terrified they were coming back for me- I still have trouble breathing just thinking about it. I haven't had a good nights sleep in a year, not since they've returned. Neteyam tries to help but I end up snapping at him more than I should. Kiri has put me to sleep a few times, but I usually wake up screaming.
My chest tightens at the thought of going back to being pricked and poked, the awful smell of acid and what they called rubbing alcohol burning my nose...
An explosion goes off sending pieces of the train flying as debris goes everywhere and smoke fills the air breaking me out of the tortured memories.
I cup my hands slightly, pushing them out as I rotate them causing the smoke to twist into a tornado. Then I open my hands as I lift them up, releasing the smoke into the sky. I quickly bring them back down to try to contain the fire, knowing I won't be able to hold it all.
Jake yells, flying down on his Ikran, and starts firing his gun at one of the planes. I see Neytiri follow in pursuit, letting out a war cry as she starts shooting arrows, sending the other plane crashing too . I follow it down with my shaky hands making sure there's minimal explosion.
Once the air is little more clear our people start gathering the Sky People's weapons.
"Let's go, two minutes people, let's go!" Jake commands firmly.
I hear a familiar whistle, knowing it's Neteyam signaling he's flying over to pick me up.
Unfortunately, I never got an Ikran like the rest of them... They all backed away from me like I had a plague. Most of the animals do. It's like they're scared of me, but they don't attack since I'm not human. I try to not let it bother me, but I wish more than anything I could fly one.
Neteyam's Ikran doesn't seem to mind me too much after he assured her I was safe so I ride with him.ย ย
"Bro, we have got to get down there," Lo'ak turns to Neteyam.
"No way! Dad will skin us!" Neteyam argues.
"Come on, don't be a wuss," Lo'ak mocks and takes off flying down to the action below.
"Lo'ak! Get back here you- argh!" Neteyam yells, going after him.
"Neteyam, what's happening?" Kamari asks through her mic. No answer. "Neteyam!" She look's over to see the Sully brothers flying down to the scene. "What are you doing?" Her eyes widen. She shakes her head knowing this reckless behavior is Lo'ak's doing.
Lo'ak lands, quickly jumping off. "Bro let's go, come on," He encourages Neteyam once he as lands too.
"Lo'ak!" Neteyam shouts angrily. "Lo'ak," He repeats as his brother takes off.
Kamari hurries down the tree, using a vine to help her down.
"Here boy, go!" One of the adults hands Lo'ak a gun. He lets out a battle cry.
"Lo'ak!" Neteyam catches up, grabbing Lo'ak's elbow. "You don't even know how to use it."
Lo'ak cocks the gun. "Dad taught me."
Kamari runs up to the mess, pushing her way through the crowd. Jake notices her immediately, her glowing skin hard to miss.
"Why aren't you at your post?" He hurries over to her, his booming voice causing her to flinch slightly. He frowns. He came off too strong but he's scared for her to be down here in the action.
She leans over to catch her breath, eyes traveling over to where the boys are. Jake follows her line of vision and spots his sons right away. He goes to speak in his intercom before someone yells out that a plane heading their way.
"That's your signal, fall back!" Jake shouts, grabbing Kamari's arm and taking off as the plane starts shooting rockets at the group.
"Come on bro, come on," Lo'ak yells as he and Neteyam start running before one of the explosions hits their area, sending them flying.
Fear floods Kamari and Jake's bodies. One of their crew fires a missile at the plane, taking it down.
"Lo'ak where are you? Neteyam!" Jake yells out, searching all around. Kamari starts coughing as the smoke fills her lungs, too shook up to do anything about it at the moment.
Lo'ak runs up to them.
"Easy, easy," Jake holds out a hand, "You okay?" He starts scanning Lo'ak all over.
"Neteyam," Kamari breathes out, his absence creeping up her spine.
"Where's your brother?" Jake asks.
"Over there," Lo'ak tries to say out of breath.
"Where is he, where?" Jake's frantic. Lo'ak points. "Get out of here!" He orders. "Go on. You too Ka-" He was telling Kamari who's already taken off in Neteyam's direction. She has a sick feeling in her stomach and all she needs is to see him and make sure he's okay.
"Neteyam!" Jake hollers as he steps onto a fallen plane, his eyes widening as he see's blood. "Oh no."
"Over here!" Kamari yells, spotting Neteyam's body face down. Her breath hitches.
Jake runs over and flips Neteyam's body right-side up. Kamari falls to her knees.
He groans as his face contorts with pain, "Dad?" Jake pulls him up, checking his back. Relief washes over the girl by his side. "Kamari, you shouldn't- be down here," He strains to speak. He reaches out for her and she takes his hand, a wave of pain washes over her almost knocking her backwards.
"You skxawng," She mouths.
"Neither should you!" Jake grabs him by the neck. "What are you doing here, boy! What the hell were you thinking!" He yells, causing Kamari to squeeze Neteyam's hand. Jake lets Neteyam flop back down before picking him up onto his shoulders.
"I'm sorry," Neteyam whispers before speaking normally. "I'm sorry sir."
"Let's go," Jake nods his head to Kamari and she follows.
She shakes her head at the skxawng boy, thanking the stars, and Eywa, that he's okay. Her brows furrow. She's never felt that kind of fear before, not even during her years of torture and experiments.

Author's Note: Hope y'all enjoyed this chapter <3
I'm trying to write Kamari's powers/explain them the best I can!
Also, can we talk about Kamari and Neteyam's moment <<<333ย
It reminds me of when Peeta got knocked back by the force field in Catching Fire and Katniss rushed to his side. "Be careful there's a forcefield there." ๐ฅน
Love that she's actually confused as to why she was so worried lol, we love the oblivious.
