Chapter 6

For dinner, Mr. Zadoc made spaghetti and meatballs for everyone. It was a change for Burr. There's always lunch ladies making the food and having homemade food was a pipe dream. It was something he felt only loving families could have.

Dinner was quiet because everyone got to watch tv in the living room while they ate. Burr didn't really like the 'Jeopardy' that was playing since he didn't understand it. After dinner, everyone washed their own plates and left to either continue to watch tv or go do something else.

Burr went to his room to shower. It was great because there were no public showers and he had his very own bathroom. He wouldn't have to sneak to the showers in the middle of the night just so he can take a hot shower by himself. After the shower, he brushed his teeth, washed his face, and dressed into the pajamas Nasir had given him. He hadn't realized the unfamiliar scent of Nasir was all over it before and only now it seemed very prominent, but Burr didn't mind and would probably wash it when he finds the laundry room.

He snuggled up in his bed and started reading one of the books he brought along. Dozing off midway through ten pages his head felt extra heavy, he couldn't keep it up any longer and closed his eyes not even marking the page before soft snores fell accompanied by the calm atmosphere of the room.

Burr awoke in the middle of the night. It was one of those random wake-ups where you have no idea why you had woken up. Nevertheless, his bathroom light was still on because he forgot to turn it off while reading and assumed that was the cause of his sleep disturbance. Also, the hardcover of the book made indents into his skin from the awkward way he fell asleep which could have blocked some blood flow, another bother of his sleep. He wiped the drool from his face and swung his legs off the bed when he heard it. Whispers and footsteps. Another possibility for his sudden awake.

Burr gulped slightly, afraid of who was outside, but with morbid curiosity softly put his ear to the door. He counted the familiar whispers and put voices to faces. All four of the students were talking in the hall. Burr looked at the old clock hung up in his room, it was past midnight so he didn't know why they were up.

His door was cracked open as usual so he peeked through the gap getting a glint of green hair, Olive he assumed. They all hung around the stairs which happened to be right next to his door. Burr was terribly curious about what they were saying yet couldn't make out any of their words, sounding gibberish like radio static. His cheeks puffed out getting antsy with no answers.

He wanted to ask them but afraid it would be intrusive on them if he abruptly buds in, what if they accuse him of eavesdropping, which he technically is. The whispers faded and before Burr knew it, they left down the stairs, when suddenly a light bulb went off in his head.

It was just a midnight snack adventure!

An elaborate plan of them discussing every move to sneak into the kitchen and steal some treats popped into Burr's imagination, and he guessed that to be the only logical answer.

Sometimes people in his dorm did the same thing, they would sneak off into the kitchens and steal whatever they could find. One time his roommate made him go on one of these midnight adventures, he was so scared he would be caught though he got sick for a week.

Burr gave a relieved sigh, flicked off the bathroom light, and jumped on the bed just as fast as the thought of a monster made his heart lurch. Luckily the covers strewn on himself made a cozy nest and he calmed down his racing heart. He wished there was a nightlight. The pitch blackness of the night made him feel uncomfortable even if he had the night vision to see in the dark. He tentatively placed his book on the nightstand and scooted himself into the covers looking at the ceiling.

He didn't fall asleep immediately, still waiting for the rush of footsteps to run up the stairs, the crook robbers holding snacks in their arms. He had to admit he felt a little left out because he wasn't invited but thought it was for the best and they could bond over something non-criminal. Burr huffed a laugh thinking of Iker and Nasir in black in white striped jumpsuits with a big weight attached to their legs, a black mask covering around their eyes, and to complete the look a brown bag stuffed to the brim with delicious snacks some even spilling over the edge. On the other hand, Olive wore a ninja outfit using magic to lift up all the snacks and running like a ghost in the night. Joel...Joel was—a pirate! He walked funny with a giant stack of snacks wrapped in his arms almost touching the ceiling carrying in such a messy way that the noise of the falling treats attracted the owner of the snack factory! Red alarms flickered on and off as they cursed Joel and his reckless behavior.

Hehe~

In the end, Olive was the only one who made it out without being caught. Because he was the coolestyawn...

Burr's eyes lulled down heavy with the need for sleep and for the second time that night, he fell into a slumber with a head full of silly thoughts.

The only thing odd was that no one ever went back upstairs. Not a creak was heard of the steps and two escaped prisoners, ninja, and pirate never returned to their rooms.

Burr did find it a little concerning but stuck with his elaborate explanation for the disappearance of the four snack robbers.
