Chapter 4

"Don't mess with me," Burr mumbled walking side by side with Olive. The taller gave a chuckle shaking his head humorously. A familiar breeze atop his head told Burr that his bear features had left, he relished in relief! And Olive didn't comment on it.

"Then what's your favorite color?"

Burr paused his face scrunching up in thought. He hadn't really ever thought of his favorite color before. "Well, I like the taste of blue and green along with red...Oh! yellow and orange have good taste too." he said, mouth-watering at the thought of maple syrup and candy. Olive looked quizzically at the bear with a raised brow. "Do you always have food on your mind?" he grinned at the silly bear.

"Always," he whispered quietly almost completely unheard.

"There you are!" Zadoc came around the corner and he sighed with a relieved smile on his face. Burr tilted his head slightly, "were you looking for me?" he asked meekly.

"Yes, Nasir said you left and I was worried you were lost somewhere but it looks like your with Olive. Go do your chores I'll show Burr to his room." Zadoc gestures for Olive to go on and with reluctance Olive left with a small agitated twitch to his lip.

Burr wondered why he was suddenly angry.

Zadoc showed Burr his room which was on the second floor with a hall dedicated for the boys. Burr was at the first door right next to the staircase while Joel was next door, the two doors next to Joel were Iker and Nasir's and the last was Olive. The headmaster's room was on the first floor but Burr didn't know the exact location.

"I already have all your things in your room," Zadoc smiled opening the door to where Burr would be staying for the time being.

His mouth slightly opened in awestruck. It was such a spacious room, two beds weren't stuffed together and he didn't have to share with anybody. It was an odd change not having a roommate but felt amazing to have space to himself, his first-ever privacy.

"Thank you Mr. Zadoc," Burr expressed with a happy smile.

"You can explore your room and then come down for lunch, were glad to finally have a new person in this house! I don't know how I was ever sane without you Burr." Zadoc laughed waving goodbye as did Burr leaving down the stairs with soft thumps.

Burr thought Zadoc was quite intimidating before but he seemed like a nice person and a well-respected teacher/headmaster after a few exchanges of words. Burr yawned, a day hadn't even passed and yet it felt very eventful.

Leaving the door slightly ajar Burr unzipped his bag and put everything in order. The toothbrush toothpaste, deodorant, cologne, shampoo, and conditioner all go into the bathroom attached to his room. The small trinkets he's collected from competitions and birthday gifts from teachers got put on his shelf so he doesn't ruin it. The few books he owned went on the nightstand. Finally, his two sets of clothing go in the dresser by the bathroom. Burr also changed back into his uniform and put on a fresh pair of socks because it felt more comfortable during the daytime.

Happy with the way he laid everything out in the room he slightly adjusted a tilted frame of some exotic animal probably used as a decorative item in the room before he arrived. Content Burr rolled his sleeve and made the bed with comfortable washed sheets neater and left. He hung the key to his room on a hook typically used to hang coats by the door not feeling the need to lock it.

Burr lightly pitter-pattered down the stairs as quietly as possible as to not make a ruckus and popped his head into the kitchen seeing as it was lively. "Are you allergic to anything Burr?"

The abrupt sound behind him made Burr flinch, turning he saw Iker holding a jar of jam.

"Dark chocolate," Burr blinked.

"Well, then good thing none of us like dark chocolate!" Olive beamed.

Everyone seemed to be hanging around in the kitchen probably making their own lunch. Burr felt a bit lost not knowing what to do. "Do you like peanut butter and jelly or ham sandwiches?" Iker questioned grabbing some bread.

This was a tough decision because frankly, Burr liked both equally. At the moment he was feeling something more peanut buttery so after a moment of silence he said the peanut butter and jelly.

Not a moment later he sat at a dinner table with a big window showing the snowy blizzard. The table was a bit big his chin barely making it upright but no one remarked it and Burr felt grateful for that. Usually, the kids at his old institute would constantly make fun of his height, it wasn't bullies to him it was just messing around or being mean. Burr didn't consider anyone who said mean things to him was bulling because it was something he could take easily and not have to think about later.

A plate was sat in front of Burr and a sandwich and some chips and carrots on the side. Zadoc joined a bit late when everyone had already rushed to begin eating. Burr noticed everyone had preferences. Olives dish was a salad and all vegan he assumed, most elves didn't eat anything animal-related. While Joel had a ham and turkey sandwich with chips and beef sticks on the side. Iker and Nasir had the same dish, a peanut butter sandwich with pickles on top, chips, and carrots on the side. While the headmaster ate a salad although not vegan.

They all seemed comfortable...

"Joel, didn't I tell you to not eat so much processed meat?" Zadoc scolded while Olive scrunched up his nose in assumed disgust. Joel grumbled rolling his eyes. "Look at them! They should be the ones you talk to first!" Joel pointed at the twins which sparked a fight between the three of them.

"Alright enough, since you've shown such behavior on the first day of our new arrival you have to listen to piano music the rest of your lunch!" Zadoc smirked pulling out his phone and putting on the music at high volume.

Burr looked left and right at the distraught faces at the table. He didn't understand, he liked the music.

Burr switched his gaze to his food and took a bite. It was so good! His school served sandwiches but Burr hadn't had one for a few months because they don't fit his cost range. He doesn't normally even eat breakfast including lunch only ever eating dinner. But Burr hadn't had solid food at all for two days! The milk did fill him up but he was hungry for something more nutritious.

After that incident Burr wolfed down his food in a few bites without a sound, lastly drinking every drop of water from the glass that was placed by each person before he arrived at the table.

"Ah! What happened to your food?" Joel questioned next to him in puzzlement.

Burr's face reddened and asked to be excused to leave the situation which Zadoc waved him off in approval. He took his glass and plate and placed them in the kitchen out of sight of the table which gave him some time to breathe. He was embarrassed at his vulgar eating habit he should have kept in check! But it seemed everyone was so busy they didn't even notice his food was gone and that made Burr even more embarrassed!

He sighed softly and went to his room leaving the door slightly cracked and plopped on his bed. He felt mentally drained better yet physically from the long walk here. He still had a long day today and tomorrow. Since Burr didn't have anything else to do he decided to sleep until someone would wake him. He was so stuffed, he hadn't felt this full in a long time making him much more lethargic, and it was such a good meal!

Burr closed his eyes on his new bed and went to sleep.

His nap was disturbed after about two hours, his bed had applied weight that wasn't there before. Burr was sensitive to changes when he's asleep easily catching the disturbance. He looked up groggily his hair a mess only to find his pillow was occupied by another, their fluffy red hair telling exactly who it was.

Bright yellow phoenix eyes stared back at him with crossed arms and a triumphant aura.

Burr tiredly knitted his brows with crusted drool from sleep still on his face, his eyes not quite processing what's happening. He just wanted to lay his head back on the pillow and sleep again.

"Do you hate us?" Joel abruptly asked.
