Happy struggled to find her way through a hallway of the SAMB, which had suddenly become a dark abyss of the shouts of surprised SAMBers. Igniting her lightsaber for light, she rushed through the corridor at a fast pace. "Leo!" she cried, hoping her son would hear. "We found him!" replied a voice from behind.

She turned around to find Silver, Dreamkeeper, Alura, and Animal walking towards her with a very terrified Leo. "There you are!" Happy shouted as she rushed to scoop up the little boy. She squeezed him tightly and then turned to the four in front of her. "Thank you so much!" she gasped, relieved. Alura beamed, though her obsidian-black eyes showed great fear, "You're welcome!"

Happy extinguished her lightsaber and looked around, "Do any of you know what's going on?" To her surprise, all four nodded vigorously. "We were going to the library this morning to check it out," Animal explained, "but on the way we started hearing shouts and screams and..." She trailed of with a worried expression, but Silver quickly finished for her, "We heard really...weird... noises, too. We weren't sure what they were, but we are sure no shapeshifter or spirit animal of the SAMB could have been mean enough to scare so many people like that."

"And then we saw a flash of light and a dog ran past us!" Dreamkeeper added, her hummingbird wings fluttering wildly. People were afraid of a dog? Happy thought, perplexed. As if reading her mind, Animal added, "But there were screams before the dog appeared, so it was probably something else."

"Or somethings," added another voice. The group turned around to find Hound appearing out of the darkness. Her expression was frightened and worried, but her voice was serious, "We have to hide. Now. Strange creatures have been crawling about and SAMBers have been going missing."

"Creatures such as what?" Happy asked, holding Leo even tighter. "If you ask me, I'd say that they look a lot like creatures described in books--" Hound's reply was cut short by a rumbling hiss from behind. "They followed me here." The panic in Hound's voice increased dramatically, "Quick, this way!"

The group raced down the now-deserted hallways of the SAMB, and Happy hoped that the reason of the absence was that the other SAMBers were hiding, just as they were about to do. But just as they rounded a corner and vanished into a hidden doorway, Happy swore she had seen a flash of golden-brown scales and the glint of metallic-black skin. A sickening realization washed over her: They were being hunted.
