NICOLE'S HOME
december 31, 2024
beverly hills, ca 11:30pm
monday
in the comfort of nicole's spanish styled mini mansion that had a touch of pan-mediterranean charm, she found herself wrapped in the arms of her current situationship, wesley rocco. a model who is usually out of bounds for anyone to get, but nicole got entangled with him effortlessly.
wesley looked at her with a sly smile, "part of me wishes we were at a new year's eve party. another part of me is happy that i'm spending this quiet time with you." he said as he ran a hand through her hair.
she smiled, placing both arms around his neck, "well, don't you think this is better than a party?" she asked softly as she adjusted her seating on the couch.
"it's much better." he smirked as he leaned in to kiss her slowly. she responded to his lips, smiling as she ran a hand up his back.
as the kiss deepened, pyro, nicole's sleek-looking doberman, ambled into the living room. his glossy black coat gleamed in the dim lighting. he let out a low, gentle bark, causing both nicole and wesley to pause.
nicole chuckled, gently placing a hand on pyro's head, "pyro, we're busy. go find something else to entertain yourself." she suggested softly, her tone remaining friendly. pyro perked up, clearly recognizing the situation, but his eyes were expectant.
wesley laughed, shaking his head in amusement, "someone wants attention." he teased gently, rubbing pyro's back.
nicole nodded, giving pyro a soft pat before returning her focus to wesley. "he's a bit needy sometimes, but i love him to bits." she admitted.
the moment the thought of her work crossed her mind, her demeanor shifted slightly. she leaned back, breaking the moment of intimacy.
"what's going on in that head of yours?" wesley asked, though his voice was underlying a certain tone. almost as if he didn't truly care.
"drinks!" she exclaimed as she shot up from the couch, heading to the kitchen to prepare drinks for the two of them.
both nicole and wesley were feeling the effects of the drinks. nicole found herself laughing uncontrollably, her cheeks flushed, her movements slightly uncoordinated. in the midst of her laughing fit, she accidentally spilled her wine onto the pristine couch, the crimson liquid staining its surface. as she saw the stain spreading, she couldn't help but laugh even harder. "oh my god, this is so stereotypical. this is probably what they show in those rom-coms." she managed to say between giggles, her words a bit slurred.
he nodded as he laughed along with her, "and then they'll put water on it, but not know that it likes water...then they break up and when she's sad one day, she sees the stain and runs in the rain to get him again," he summarized a stereotypical romcom.
nicole, her cheeks flushed from both the wine and the excitement, leaned forward, her eyes bright with enthusiasm. "you know what's been on my mind?" she began, a grin playing on her lips. "my next film. i've been dreaming of doing something different, something lighter. a rom-com. you know, the classic 'simple girl meets boy' story instead of the usual 'girl is damaged in a male dominated world' theme i usually tackle." she shared, her voice filled with a sparkle of passion.
"can i be the boy?" he asked with a sly grin.
she laughed hysterically. "you're kidding, right? you have no acting experience whatsoever." she pointed out, which seemed to get him a bit defensive.
wesley rolled his eyes. "you know what, what's with the sudden change? all of your previous movies ended up successful, why do you need to alter your typical film storyline?" he inquired, his tone laced with slight judgement. "you've won academy awards for those damaged girl movies, not rom-coms." he snapped.
"boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, girl falls in love with boy." she stated. "i want that storyline."
wesley chuckled darkly, "oh, really? do you now?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "you've always despised love stories." he pointed out, crossing his arms over his chest, his gaze locked onto her.
"no, i just despise the new love stories. they're so predictable." she corrected. "all i have to do is perfect the plot and figure out who will be my boy and my girl." she said before taking a long sip of her wine.
"but the perfect boy can't be me, because i don't have enough experience." he said with a scoff. "and here i was thinking we'd be in a movie together."
"i'm a director, not an actress." she said. "and plus, i don't mix work with pleasure."
"so now i'm pleasure?" he asked with raised eyebrows.
"well, you're not exactly work," she said.
"maybe not, but we're not dating." he said quickly.
she nodded, "i'm aware. and i didn't even go as far as to say that we were."
wesley chuckled, his tone slightly more serious, "well, what are we?" he asked.
she exhaled deeply, contemplating on how to answer his question. the truth is, she didn't quite know how to classify what they were. "i don't know, wes." she replied softly. "i never really know what we are. some nights you're here with me and other nights you're off with another girl. there's no consistency. you don't do consistency."
his lips parted to respond, but he couldn't find the right words. he wanted to deny her allegation, to defend himself, but he knew deep down that she was right. he wasn't known for commitment. his lifestyle favored brief hookups and short-lived flings over emotional devotion.
he pursed his lips, clearly not liking the fact that she called him out. just as he was about to say something, nicole's phone went off.
she quickly answered, "mom! hi!" she said into the phone as wesley grabbed the remote changing the tv to show the ball drop countdown held in new york city.
"honey! did you see the news? your father and i are just overjoyed..." jessica went on.
she moved to the kitchen to not hear the television and give her mom all of her attention as she shook her head as if her mom could see her, "no. what news?" she inquired.
"your movie! 'undressed...' you know, the one starring your older sister about the woman in hollywood not taken seriously because she's seen as some sort of sex symbol-" she rambled.
"yes, i know the one." nicole said with a chuckle. "what about it?"
"it's been nominated for a golden globe!" nicole heard both of her parents say into the phone simultaneously.
nicole's lips parted, forming into a small smile. "oh my god." she breathed out. "wow, that's-" she paused, turning around to watch the ball drop countdown displayed on her television.
"i'm so proud of you, sweetheart! congratulations!" her mother gushed from the other end of the phone call.
nicole smiled brightly, "thank you! i'm still in shock. i didn't even think i'd be nominated," she confessed gratefully.
"oh of course you would! you're already an academy award winner for other films so it's no surprise that you're prone to success." jessica explained. "we just couldn't be happier. and you got your sister to star in it? you, nicole penny bleu, are something else."
she smiled, shaking her head. "no, mom. olivia deserved her role. she's a great model and proved herself to be an even better actress. that movie wouldn't have been what it was without her." she acknowledged.
jessica laughed from the other end, "that girl was always the drama queen!" she said lightly.
nicole nodded in agreement, "that's for sure. but that only helped her with this part." she recalled.
so wrapped into the ongoing phone call, nicole completely missed the countdown to new years.
"alright, bye nicky, baby." her mom said before hanging up.
nicole turned around only to be faced with an upset wesley. "you missed the countdown, you missed the ball drop, and i missed an amazing party for this." wesley said as he grabbed his jacket.
"wes, i'm sorry. my mom just wanted to talk to me. i only missed it because i found out that my movie is getting nominated for a globe award, you can't blame me for getting caught up." she explained softly.
he looked at her with a small scoff, "no, i can't really blame you there. but all throughout this night i felt like you had a lack of concern for me. i was here, we were going to spend the evening together, but all you've been focusing on is work." he said harshly. "i knew i should've gone to a party instead of spending a lonely night here with you."
she shook her head, "you're not even happy for me? i just told you i'm being nominated for best motion picture director and you can't even force a smile?" the brunette countered.
he shrugged, "you've won an oscar before. it's not new to you." he dismissed. "why should it matter so much now?" he questioned.
she stared back at him, taken aback. "i can't even believe you. i'm being nominated for a film i directed and you're mad about the fact that i was on a phone call for a short period of time?" she asked, a hint of annoyance evident in her tone. "you're such a narcissist."
"i'm just mad that i was sitting in front of a television all alone watching the ball drop! i haven't ever done that in my entire life." he retorted.
nicole sighed deeply, running a hand through her long brown hair. "you know what? just go. go to a party or whatever you were planning on doing." she said firmly. "just go, wes." she waved a dismissive hand.
"you're kicking me out at midnight?" he asked, his tone laced with irritation.
"yeah. i need to be alone to process all of this." she stated before walking away, pyro following after her.
he stood there for a moment in disbelief, contemplating on whether he should go after her. a part of him thought she didn't even deserve it. he should leave her alone. but the other half wanted to chase her, to tell her how he feels.
he closed his eyes and shook his head, he wasn't about to go on his merry way after a girl he was just hooking up with. with that, his mind was made up. he stormed out of nicole's mansion and into his sleek black audi.
GEORGINA'S HOME
hollywood hills, ca 12:45am
arriving at her best friend's home where a party was in full swing. of course she had told wesley that she wanted to be alone only to get the last word, when in reality she wanted to be close to her friends.
"nicky! you made it!" george said with a smile on her face as she pulled her best friend into a hug. "happy new year, maybe 2025 be bright." she told the girl who gave her a weak smile. "what's wrong?" she asked in a hushed tone.
she shook her head softly, "i had an argument with wesley over my new nomination. it was stupid." she whispered. "and now i just want to have fun." she admitted, forcing a smile.
"woah, woah, woah...slow down. nomination?" georgina backtracked.
nicole nodded, "best motion picture director." she acknowledged. "for undressed... that movie my sister was in." she added.
"holy crap! girl, that's amazing. that's incredible!!" george said as a smile spread across her face. "and wesley wasn't happy about it?"
"well, i was on the phone hearing the news while the ball dropped. so i missed that intimate moment with him and he got pissed and said things he probably didn't mean." nicole shrugged.
"he just wanted a new years kiss, let's be honest." george retorted as she pulled nicole deeper into the party. "let's find the other girls!"
in one of georgina's guest bedrooms the four of us sat. georgina, mckenzie, davina, and myself as i explained to them the golden globe nomination, my new movie idea, and of course the argument.
"i've never liked him." davina stated.
"it's not like we were even dating." nicole tried to reason.
davina wasn't having it, she shook her head. "dating or not he's a walking red flag. flags that you've seen one too many times, i'm sorry but maybe this is just another wake up call."
"i have to agree with vina. he may be hot, but is he truly hot enough for all of this?" georgina said.
nicole sighed, "i have to keep things between us smooth sailing just a little longer. my management would freak if i showed up to the globes alone."
"nicky!" the three girls called out simultaneously.
she paused, her eyes darting among each of her friends as she pondered. her lips pressed into a thin line, considering their perspective. "i know you're right. wesley has his fair share of red flags. i just can't face the music yet." she confessed.
"you deserve to be happy, not to settle for a 'smooth sailing' publicity stunt just to please your management." george interjected.
"we all know this stunt will turn into going to his house after," mckenzie pointed out as she recalled a past experience.
"hey! i told you to keep that between us." nicole scolded.
davina scoffed, "half the world saw you two leaving the after party together. and showing up together."
nicole's face dropped, realizing davina was right. "listen, i know that he isn't ideal. but for now, he's a necessary evil," she sighed deeply. "one more night with him at a single event and then i'll break things off."
the ladies exchanged glances, each contemplating if they could fully support this idea. finally, mckenzie spoke up. "honestly, it's your choice, nicky. but please remember that you have a great support system in us."
nicole nodded in understanding, "thank you guys. seriously."
"now tell us about this new rom-com." georgina inquired.
