amara safa-sinclair was an incredibly anxious and insecure person, although she'd never appear that way from first impressions. her anxiety had cost her many of her relationships and friendships, as she would overthink and overanalyse every detail, and would become incredibly clingy; pushing away those people. it wasn't something she was proud of and she actively tried to stop feeling that way, but it was something she couldn't help. even though her parents and sisters reassured her that it wasn't an annoying trait, amara still felt as if her anxiety was what put people off of being friends with her.

luckily, that wasn't the case when it came to her closest friends. fatima had been amara's friend since birth considering they were childhood neighbours. fatima was an unusually calming presence, immediately soothing all of amara's racing thoughts and showing her the irrationality of them. jasmine, however, was a much more energetic and lively friend being one of the few people who were able to bring amara out of her thoughts and make her a lot more sociable. marcus was a family friend that she had grown to see as an older brother, so she never felt as if her anxious tendencies irritated him.

to her, her anxiety was the reason why herself and david had never gotten along. they had met years back, with ria being their first mutual friend. amara and ria's fathers were friends in university and so when amara's family were in london, they paid ria's family a visit. the two girls immediately made friends, with amara finding ria one of the first people who made her feel calm and comfortable. tia also happened to be dave's neighbour and so eventually amara and dave interacted with each other.

oddly enough, they had gotten along in their first few interactions. it wasn't until they were teenagers that their relationship turned sour. amara's family were over in london and staying over for the weekend at the singh's house, when one of ria's brothers had kicked the ball over to the omergie's household. amara and ria decided to personally ask for it back and we're greeted by a cold dave. he chose to simply ignore amara's presence, which was so unlike him. with amara being the stubborn person she was, she brought it up to him, eager to find out the reason why he was so cold. his cold demeanour made her question what she had done to annoy him or if he finally found her an irritating person.

he didn't offer her a good explanation and instead chose to lash out at her, reinforcing amara's beliefs. he wasn't to know that amara had an ability to hold grudges for years and never let go of it. and that's what she did. amara didn't appreciate how rude he was to her, so she simply returned his energy, causing dave and amara to argue from that day on. this hatred between them lead to future awkwardness for everyone, considering they had many mutual friends and were even on 'top boy' together. to say they argued like children would be an understatement, and there seemed to be nothing that would stop their arguments.

but they weren't to know what fate held in store for them. or that one day they would fall for each other...

"oh my days! ari you have to see this!" aziza cackled, looking up from her phone and urging her twin to sit next to her. amara was sat opposite the two, texting her friends about their plans for when she returned to london.

"no way it says that!" aria chuckled upon seeing what had made aziza laugh.

"it does! i actually love whoever wrote this. do you think we should tell her?" aziza giggled.

"oh for sure. i need to see her reaction to this." aria said before she burst out laughing, falling off of the sofa as she cackled.

"who's this about?" amara asked blankly, sending a concerned look to her younger sister.

"how would you feel if i said you?" aziza squeaked out.

"i'd feel very confused and i'd ask you to show me...so show me." amara stated, her eyebrows furrowed.

"ok but full disclosure, this has nothing to do with us so don't get mad at us when you see this." aria warned, with amara rolling her eyes and looking at azusa's phone before gasping.

originally a dancer, amara had been a back up dancer for many different artists including beyoncé, kendrick lamar and usher.

born to a sudanese mother and a half jamaican half bajan father, caused her to be able to speak in both arabic and english fluently. she also is the older sister of aziza and aria safa-sinclair, being around 8 years older than the twins. she had dated a man named jacob who had stayed away from the public eye; who is also the muse for her gritty album of 'mars's world'. she has also been romantically linked to her 'top boy' cast mate and british rapper, santan dave.

"first of all, we totally see the you and dave thing now-" aziza started, smiling sarcastically at her sister's deadly glare.

"-yeah it'd be a cute enemies to lovers arc." aria continued, with amara glaring at her too.

"there will be no enemies to lovers because i cannot stand him. i would rather be hit by two trains than ever have to kiss him." amara claimed, with her sisters rolling their eyes at her.

"i don't buy it." aria whispered, which, unfortunately for her, amara heard and subsequently slapped her for. "actually never mind you guys would never work because you're abusive!" she exclaimed.

"babes that was barely a slap. relax." amara stared blankly.

"on the plus side, at least they used a good picture of you....which must of been hard to find." aziza mumbled, running out of the living room and causing amara to chase her.

"aziza jameela safa-sinclair how fucking dare you?!!!" amara exclaimed, chasing her little sister up the stairs.

"i was just saying! also you said you had standards? amara please be serious all of your exes look like they took a special pass to be on earth!" aziza exclaimed, hiding behind her father, who stopped amara from lunging at him.

"i'm guessing this is about boys." tyler said, completely uninterested, with aziza using him as a shield.

"no it's about aziza being disrespectful! and also about one boy but that's not the point!" amara exclaimed.

"amara, sweetheart, i need you to relax and try not to kill your little sister. i promised your mum i'd look after you all and i don't want to have to explain that one killed the other. i value my life." tyler joked, causing a soft smile to break on her face.

"wait so you're not concerned about my health and well-being?" aziza asked, due to her father's defence of her being based purely on his safety.

"of course i do az. but that statement about having no standards was foul. you're lucky i'm stopping her right now." he teased.

"alright i'm sorry. i mean amara's only mad because she knows she can't say i don't have standards because the guy i like-" aziza stated absentmindedly, with tyler turning around and staring at her, wide eyed.

"you like someone?!!" tyler shouted, causing aziza to hide behind amara instead.

"dad she's 16. of course she likes someone." amara defended, before whispering to her sister, "you just love digging that hole deeper for yourself."

"i know but we agreed she wouldn't date until she's 35!" tyler exclaimed.

"no you agreed. i was against this." aziza stated.

"ok why don't we all calm down and forget this conversation happened? that way none of us die and we will never have this conversation again." amara commanded slowly, giving her sister the hint to return to the living room, while giving her dad a comforting hug.

"i still can't believe she's all grown up now." he mumbled, with amara holding her father in a tight embrace.

"i know dad." she whispered, trying hard not to laugh.
