II ⋅ Rayleigh
Rayleigh was looking over a chart after helping a patient. It had been a few weeks since the Amana incident, and it was about time it went back to normal, even if it was a little bit. Rayleigh had her red ED uniform on with a white coat.
"Ray, what'cha up too?" asks Maggie, leaning on the counter and looking at the young brown-haired woman looking at the chart. Rayleigh looked up from her chart and smiled at the charge nurse. "Ooh, what's that look?"
Rayleigh lets out a small sigh, putting down the chart , putting her hands on her head, and closing her eyes. "I haven't been sleeping well again, I know I've been keeping Kevin up, and I feel terrible."
"Nightmares again?"
Rayleigh nods a little bit. "Yeah, although it feels like a memory." Rayleigh looks up at Maggie. "I'm trying to think if I should let CPD know about it."
Maggie touches her shoulder gently. "Until it really makes sense, I wouldn't. It sounds like it's jumbled in your head." Rayleigh nods and touches her head. Letting out another breath, and before Rayleigh can reply to her, Maggie's phone chimes, and Maggie looks down. Rayleigh gets ready to go but then is stopped by someone else.
"Dr. Strife," Rayleigh turns around and frowns. "Oh, don't give me that look. You know what today is."
Rayleigh gives him a look as if confused. "What's today?"
"Today... Today! You're going to do your M&M today on a patient you had a few weeks ago. Don't you remember?"
Rayleigh stared at him again, and then she looked to Maggie. Maggie looks at her while she shrugs. "I... I don't remember..."
"You dealt with a patient who had a GSW in his stomach and somehow went into..."
"...The back of his heart. Dr. Stohl, no. I don't need an M&M for that! That was out of my control, I did everything right!"
Dr. Stohl raises his hands and looks at her. "Don't shoot the messenger, Dr. Strife. I'm just --"
"No!" Rayleigh shakes her head. "I'm not doing the M&M Dr. Stohl, I refuse. You can send me home if you want to, but I know I did everything right!" Maggie touches her shoulder to calm her down. "Maggie, I'm going home."
"Then you're suspended without pay for the next week."
"..." Rayleigh pauses, then begins walking off, throwing up her arms, and walks into the doctor's lounge to throw on her winter coat and then grabs her bag and storms out.
"Rayleigh,"
"Nah, not right now, Ethan."

"Dr. Stohl," Maggie snapped at him, making him look at her. "It's enough that she has to deal with her PTSD, night terrors, and lack of sleep. And now you stressing her out is crossing the line." Dr. Stohl looks at Maggie in shock. "You didn't know? Of course not."
"Is she seeking therapy?"
"She doesn't need to disclose that," Ethan spoke to him. "She doesn't have a huge support system. She's doing this on her own."
"What you did was uncalled for," April added and walked by him.
"Why am I being attacked?" Dr. Stohl questioned everyone, looking around to the doctors and nurses standing before him. "I was merely stating."
"No, you were commanding someone who is going through a difficult time to remember what happened back a few months ago." Maggie stated. "Lay off her next time."

Rayleigh walks into her apartment and locks the door when she shuts it and throws her bag onto the table with her keys, and she walks to the couch and sits down putting her head in her hands and closes her eyes while crying. She was so frustrated with Dr. Stohl that she couldn't keep her feelings in check.
She grabs her phone and dials a number, hearing it ring.
"Hey, baby. What's up?"
"Are you busy, Kevin?" Rayleigh asks while getting up to go change into a grey camisole with a tri colored abboud sweater, dark jeans with dark brown boots. "I need to get out,"
"What happened?"
"I got sent home!" Rayleigh was agitated. "Do you remember what happened a few weeks ago?" It was silent on the phone for a moment as if he was thinking. "I told you when the bullet went behind his heart."
"They sent you home for that?"
"They want to do an M&M for it," Rayleigh told him. "It happened weeks ago, and now they wanna do it? I barely remember what happened. I've been having lack of sleep, the -- the night terrors are getting so bad, Kevin..."
"I know they are, baby..." Kevin told her over the phone. "I'll be home in the next ten minutes. We'll go out on a date."
"I am sorry for keeping you up 'cause of them." Rayleigh apologized while sitting down on the couch. "I don't mean to..."
"I know you don't, baby," Kevin quietly assures her. "We will be okay; we'll get through this."
"Kevin, I think I'm having memories from them." Rayleigh told him, putting a hand on her head and closing her eyes. "Like -- I can almost see where I'm at, but it's dark..."
"That's a plus," Kevin told her. "It's something. We can add it to your file when I get into work tomorrow."
Rayleigh nods. "Okay..." Rayleigh then sighs a little bit quietly. "I'll see you when you get here, Kevin..."
"Alright, I love you."
"I love you too," Rayleigh hangs up the phone and puts it on the table, then puts her other hand on her head and starts crying. "I hate this..." Rayleigh cries a little bit. She sniffles once and then brings her hands down her face to wipe the tears on her face. She pats her face a little bit and then takes a deep breath. "I got this." She takes another deep breath, stands up, and walks to the sink to splash water in her face.
By the time she finishes, the door is unlocking, and she turns to see Kevin walking in. Releasing the breath, she didn't know she was holding. Rayleigh smiles.
"You okay, baby?"
"I'll be fine." Rayleigh assures him while walking up to him and hugs him around the waist. "It's just been a rough day..."
"I know," Kevin whispers, kissing her head gently. "Why don't we get something to eat. Get your mind off things."
Rayleigh smiles. "That sounds wonderful."

Rayleigh was getting out of Kevin's vehicle after he dropped her off at work. She grabbed her bag out of the car. Kevin touches her hand, and she leans in with a smile and peck one another's lips and release.
"You have a wonderful day, baby."
"I will," Rayleigh sighs in content and smiles at him. "I love you."
"I love you, baby." Kevin replies as he releases her hand gently, and she shuts the door, and as soon as she shuts the door, Rayleigh hears gunshots. Her eyes widen as Kevin yells at her to get down. As soon as she heard that, Rayleigh quickly bends down and covers her head and closes her eyes. Kevin was yelling something, but Rayleigh couldn't hear what he was saying.
Kevin touches Rayleigh's back, making her look up, and he grabs her hand and begins leading them away from the shots. Rayleigh looks back, seeing the shooter in the distance, shooting at everyone and everything. Rayleigh then felt pain in her shoulder blade, and she hisses in pain.
"Baby, you okay?"
"I'll be okay," Rayleigh gasps out, trying to ignore the pain. Kevin and her round the corner, and he checked her right shoulder seeing blood pooling around it. "No, it didn't go through," Rayleigh winces heavily.
"Let's get into Med."
Rayleigh nods, walking with him while he keeps pressure on her shoulder. They walked into Med while Maggie and everyone else were rushing around. Maggie looks up, seeing Kevin and Rayleigh walking in, Kevin still keeping pressure.
"Dr. Halstead!"
Will looks up and rushes over to Rayleigh, "What happened, Ray?"
"Caught in the crossfire," Rayleigh gasps out. "Hit my right shoulder blade, didn't go through. I'm having trouble breathing."
"Let's get you into 4." Maggie spoke, and Rayleigh nodded, heading to 4.
Rayleigh looks at Kevin. "Get the son of a bitch who shot those people..." Kevin looks at her and nods. Blowing her a kiss and she smiles as she walks into the room, and he rushes out while she sits on the bed. She takes off her shirt with April's help, Natalie and Will both take a look at the wound.
"It looks like it didn't go deep. It looks easy enough to get out of the shoulder." Natalie said, looking in the wound, making Rayleigh wince in pain. "5 mil of Morphine."
Rayleigh tuned them out while they treated her. She couldn't believe this happened, why her? Rayleigh closes her eyes, she felt tired. Her body began falling as April caught her.
"She's gone unconscious!" Will calls out as he and Natalie both bring her up and lay her on the bed. "CBC, CMP, BMP, Coags, trigger the MTP. She's losing more blood."
"Gently roll her on her left shoulder on my count. One, two, three." They gently lift her, and they could see the blood pouring out of the wound. "Dammit, it looks like the bullet nicked an artery..."
"We need to send her up to the OR. Page Dr. Rhodes and tell him we're on our way! Let's move!"

What felt like hours later, Rayleigh woke up in the hospital as she looked around. The pain in her shoulder has subsided. But it felt like something was there, but she couldn't tell what it was. She heard a deep breath as she looked over seeing Kevin sleeping on the chair, waking up from a nap.
"Hey baby, you're up."
Rayleigh smiles. "I'm up, and I'm feeling better... but something feels off."
"Like what?"
"I don't know, like something feels like it's there, but I can't tell..."
"Want me to get the doctor?"
Rayleigh thinks for a quick moment, and she nods slightly. "Dr. Rhodes. Get Dr. Rhodes..."
The monitors began beeping rapidly, and she began slowly falling asleep. Kevin's eyes widen, and he rushes out.
"Dr. Rhodes!" Kevin calls out, looking around for him as Dr. Rhodes came around the corner along with Dr. Choi. "She was talking fine then this. What happened?"
"I don't know, but I'm about to find out." Connor says, looking at Kevin. "I got this, Kevin. Dr. Choi gently lift her to her right side." Dr. Choi nods gently does, and they look to see her wound bleeding again. "Why is it bleeding again? Get me a FAST scan."
"Yes, Doctor." says a nurse, grabbed the FAST scan for him, and he used it on her back.
"Looks like there's a remnant of a bullet in her shoulder blade, but it isn't from this gunshot... we gotta get her back in the OR."
Dr. Choi gently eases her back, and they get her ready to go to the OR. "Let's go!"
