DARKNESS.
009. | ❛ this isn't you. ❜
CAROLINE FUMMED OUT OF THE ROOM, AND STEVE FOLLOWED HER TRAIL QUICKLY KNOWING THAT SHE NEEDED TO FUME OUT. HE WASN'T THE ONLY ONE WHO THOUGHT THAT AS HE SAW KIARA, WHO WAS RECENTLY RELEASED FROM HER CUFFS APPROACHING HER SISTER. Kiara examined her sister's face as they got into a closer proximity, and took her into an embrace before she could say anything, knowing that Caroline was one to need a second before deciding which emotion was controlling her. It gave Kiara time to mouth to Steve behind Caroline, asking what happened.
He quickly shook his head before Caroline pulled away from Kiara, "I just want this to be over."
"It will be." Kiara lied straight to her face, and Caroline knew very well that any of this was far from over. In war, there are many battles to which both sides lose various people; whether it be mentally or physically. And frankly, the Kingsley's were in this business for so long that they knew that things would get worse before it ever got better.
"No, it won't be. Because even if we find a way past this, none of us will ever be the same." Caroline shook her head continuously. "The June wedding won't happen without everyone I love and consider family because we are engulfed in a huge civil war."
It was very apparent that Caroline was no longer or was ever angry, more so she was worried of the fate of everyone once this was done. When all was said in done, would there even be an Avengers left to save and protect the world?
Steve pulled his fiancée in for a tight hug, and she wrapped her arms around his abdomen and pulled him closer to her. Caroline only does that once she has a strong premonition that something was about to go down; almost like a spidey sense. She bit her bottom lip as she enjoyed the final moments of the embrace before a flash of panic raced through her as in a moment everything went dark.
The power cutting out and it sending everyone into chaos as they scramble to regain a visual, but the trio have on single glance at each other before running out and on the chase for Bucky. Kiara and Caroline went one way as Steve alongside Sam, who managed to catch up went another.
The two sisters heard the sound of gunshots down the hallway as they turned out of the stairwell, dashing towards the sound. As they came into an open area, they could see Bucky locked into a mortal combat with multiple guards. He manages to whip the closest guard, sending him flying back as he quickly disarms the second, and turning the gun to fire on him.
A chill ran down both their spines when Bucky froze in his movements as his gaze landed on the two sisters. Caroline saw no sign of the man she had come to know. All she saw was the sheer mass and killing force of the weapon he had once been; one that almost killed her if it wasn't for Kiara. It took them a quick second before they realized that they were in the midst of the Winter Soldier.
"Kingsleys, get out of here!" Tony yelled as he sent a flash of light at Bucky, drawing his attention to him as Bucky engaged him in combat. Tony moved quickly, having only a single iron glove for protection. Bucky turns the gun on him and fires just as Tony gets his metal covered hand around the barrel, blocking the bullet.
Tony responds swiftly, taking the ammunition out of the gun as he slams Bucky across the face; only to have Bucky respond with a firm hit that sends Tony sprawling backwards.
"Bucky, stop!" Kiara yelled making a move to go forward once more. His eyes connect with hers, his brow furrowing slightly in confusion as his footsteps falter.
Sharon suddenly appears, hitting Bucky hard around the torso, drawing his attention away from them. She moves rapidly around him Natasha stepping in by her side, the two of them taking Bucky on. But they are no match for his moves, having never fought someone of his caliber. In seconds Bucky caught hold of Sharon and flips her onto a table, breaking the wood as she lands painfully. Natasha hastily climbs his torso, wrapping her legs firmly around his neck as she slams hit after hit onto his head.
It didn't take him long to overpower her as well, catching her around the throat as he brings her to the table, pressing hard on her wind pipe.
"Bucky!" Caroline screamed this time as she flung her knife forward, imbedding it in the flesh of his thigh, causing him to wince in pain. He releases Natasha, pulling the knife from his leg as he advances on Caroline.
Caroline didn't fear Bucky, she could never because he was family to her. But after the events of Washington, she had learn to fear the Winter Soldier. She quickly started to run as fast as she could with her speed, but still he was faster.
He held a stare cold and blank expression while his metal hand connects with her hip, driving her roughly back against the wall. He raises his other hand, still holding the knife.
"Buck, this isn't you."
Caroline tried to twist out from his grip but his hand presses into her hip, leaving bruising marks as he trapped her against the wall. "Bucky! Fight it. This isn't you."
Caroline whimpered slightly, becoming scared of the situation she landed herself in.
"Bucky!" Caroline heard Kiara scream as he pulled back his arm, raising a knife above her, the familiar blade flashing in the light as he drives it forward, a snarl ripping from his mouth. He embedded the knife in the wall an inch from her head.
His metal fingers left Caroline's hip as he turned back and forth between Kiara and her, his empty stare faltering slightly as he seems to register their faces.
"Bucky... This is not who you are." Kiara said as she got closer to him, being careful to not make any sudden movements. Bucky moved towards her as well slowly, and before any of them can even touch each other again, he is ripped away by T'Challa. He lands a hard kick to his side, causing him to step back as he gears up for another fight.
"T'Challa stop! He's not dangerous!" Caroline yelled as the two begin to engage in combat, each hit harder than the last. Until Bucky exercises a rapid combo that sends T'Challa sprawling backwards. Before T'Challa is back on his feet, Bucky is already moving quickly up the stairs. The two ladies rushed forward, trying to block T'Challa as he goes to chase after Bucky.
They looked around the room trying to predict Bucky's next path, and spotted the stairs around the hallway, signs leading to the roof. The two quickly make their way up only to be surpassed by Bucky again, it only meant that T'Challa was close behind.
"I'll handle T'Challa." Kiara said as she went back down as Caroline still continued to pursue Bucky in a chase.
She darted behind him maintaining a safe distance as she called out to him, "Bucky!"
He whips around furiously, moving quickly to her, his eyes empty, his metal hand reaching up around her throat, pushing her once again harshly into the wall, his body coming to press against hers. Her hands flew up to his face, forcing him to look at her as she gasped for air.
"Bucky, stop... look... look at me. It's Caroline." She felt his fingers soften on her neck, his grip retracting, yet she still gasped for air as his fingers slid gently behind her neck.
"Bucky. This is not who you are. You are stronger than this. You can fight this." His brow furrowed harshly as he winces looking away from her. He retracts his metal hand, drawing it back firmly as his fingers clench. His metal fist suddenly slams forward beside her head, creating a small crater in the stone wall as the plaster crumbles on her shoulder. Her body fell against the floor as Bucky retracted his hand completely, and quickly rushed up the stairs.
Caroline remained on the ground, trying to regain her breath from having constricted airways. She heard footsteps coming in quick before she saw Kiara kneel before her, examining the scene at hand. The blonde examined the fallen vampire with her skin, and the huge dent in the wall behind her.
"Bucky..." Caroline tried to start as she coughed.
"Steve has it, right now I'm worried about you." Kiara said noticing the way that Caroline was breathing.
"I'm a vampire. You don't have to be worried."
Kiara pushed her sister's hair aside, "We're family. It's my right I be worried."
Caroline smiled before she felt Kiara lifting her up, and wrapping her arms around her to lift her up. "Especially right now, we have to go."
