005; TWENTY SOMETHING GIRLS VS THIRTY SOMETHING WOMEN

! BAD GIRLS ! BAD GIRLS !

( a sex and the city fic )

BUS STOP
new york, new york
11am

the girls and i waited to board the hampton jitney bus that would take us to the hamptons. much like a bus to summer camp only instead of singing songs everyone ignores each other and talks on their cellphones.

"a cute five bedroom cottage and they're giving us a fantastic deal!" i quipped as we waited on the long line.

"yeah, of course it's a good deal...it's haunted with cheating boyfriends and sexual rejections." carrie complained jokingly, she was clearly still salty about the recent breakup involving herself and mr. big. things went downhill after he sprung up that he was moving to paris.

"we can always burn sage." i added.

"okay look, sharing a house with your girlfriends in your twenties is adorable...but when you turn thirty isn't it kind of pathetic?" miranda said as she shifted on one foot to the other, holding onto her overpacked bag. "it almost feels like being the older kid at summer camp."

"she has a point." samantha stated before jumping into story time mode, "my twenty five year old ex-assistant, nina has a summer share in bridgehampton with eighteen other girls. they have to sleep in shifts!"

"what do they do when they meet someone?" carrie inquired.

"oh they fuck in shifts too." samantha said with the wave of her hand.

"are we gonna have to shift out of the cottage when you and dr. wright put the hat on the door?" carrie said with a wink as she looked at me.

i laughed softly, "very funny." i stated but the girls looked at me to say something more. "look, i don't know what this weekend has in store."

"where is he anyway?" miranda said as she looked around the line.

the line began to slowly move as the few people in front of us began to make their way onto the bus. i shifted my weight and looked behind us, noticing a bunch more women lining up behind us.

i turned to look at the girls, my eyebrows furrowing as i looked around. "uh...he's meeting us there a little later. he gets off work around five." i said with a small smile.

"he's meeting us there?" miranda repeated with her eyebrows raised. she seemed surprised but also intrigued by my answer.

they all nodded in understanding at my answer but the three of the girls all looked a bit surprised.

"he's driving?" carrie said, her eyebrows raised.

they all looked at me and waited for a response. i let out a small chuckle and shrugged. "yes...he's driving." i said casually.

"how?" miranda asked curiously.

i chuckled. "what do you mean how? with a car." i responded sarcastically.

"what miranda means to ask is what man would voluntarily drive in new york city?" samantha said as we moved up in line.

i shrugged and tried to think of an answer before carrie spoke, "speaking of meeting up with people. where is charlotte? she said she'd be here by now."

charlotte suddenly appeared, running over with her bag in one hand and her phone in the other, clearly breathless from rushing.

"oh my god, i am so sorry i'm late!" she exclaimed as she finally reached the four of us.

the four of us looked at her and shrugged, none of us really caring that she was late.

"it's fine charlotte." miranda said, rolling her eyes.

"ladies, meet greg." she said as she motioned towards the younger guy next to her. "greg this is samantha, carrie, jamie and miranda." charlotte said with a big smile as she pointed to us all.

"hello," i said as i took note of his uncoordinated twenty something style.

"greg has been going to the hamptons for twenty years straight!" charlotte beamed.

he swung his bag around his back and spoke, "since i was six." he said with a goofy smile.

"you do the math," miranda muttered to me.

"trust me, i have!" i said as i nudged her.

HAMPTONS BEACH HOME
long island, new york
4pm

four bumper to bumper hours later, we arrived at our new home. samantha who was making herself a drink nearby called out from the bar, "they said this place was shabby chic but i'm thinking it's much more shitty chic." she pointed out.

"this towel is mildewed." miranda said as she threw a towel down, "actually this whole house is mildewed!" she scoffed.

"it's not mildew, it's beachy." i told the girls as i looked up from my book.

"yeah, would you all stop being so cynical, we're lucky to be here!" charlotte yelled.

"cynicism? now that's something we have an advantage over women in their twenties." carrie said.

"i was cynical in highschool." miranda said as she rolled her eyes. just then there was a knock on the door. "who's that?" miranda asked as we all looked at the door.

charlotte hopped up from the couch. "it's greg!" she said before speaking a bit more quietly, "if he asks anything, i'm twenty seven." she said before slipping over to the door and swinging it open to be met with greg.

as he stepped in, he smiled at us all. "hey so um, my housemates and i are having a big bonfire tonight out on the beach and i just wanted to tell you that you're all invited." he said swiftly.

the girls all stood silently, still in shock that charlotte was acting as a twenty something year old. "excellent!" i spoke up.

THE BEACH
long island, new york
8pm

at the bonfire, charlotte was busy whispering sweet nothings to greg while samantha, carrie, miranda, and i were busy looking out of place while nursing our beers.

"i'm all for younger men...but these guys don't even have any chest hair!" samantha complained.

"that's some good news for their backs." carrie said.

just then, we witnessed a girl throwing up, miranda gulped and rolled her eyes. "this is really fun! how long do we have to stay?" she said to us in a sarcastically sweet way.

"yeah. i'm gonna go tell charlotte we're leaving." carrie said as she walked off.

i took a small sip of my beer, watching as carrie went off to let charlotte know the news. i had to admit, i was getting bored pretty quickly with the bonfire as the sun was completely gone.

i looked around at the groups of people hanging out on the beach before i heard the sound of a dog barking. i turned my head to look out at the shoreline. there, i saw duncan and a golden retriever walking down the beach together.

i continued to watch them as they continued walking closer towards the bonfire, the golden retriever looked like it was having the time of its life, running around and playing in the sand.

i couldn't help but smile at the adorable sight before duncan looked up and our eyes met. i quickly looked away, embarrassed that he might have noticed i had been staring.

i pretended to watch the fire, sipping my beer as i tried to remain casual. suddenly, i felt a presence next to me as duncan appeared beside me. he was now only inches away from me, looking quite different than he had in the city.

"finally." i teased jokingly as i turned to face him fully.

he chuckled and placed his hands in the pockets of his jeans, his eyes looking right at me. "you miss me that much?" he replied, playing along with my sarcasm.

i looked up at him and smirked, taking in the view of him standing in front of me. he looked good, really good. i couldn't help but admire how he looked so handsome in his unbuttoned plaid shirt, the sleeves rolled up to his forearms.

i shrugged, "maybe so." i then looked at the dog. "who's your friend?"

he looked down and watched as the golden retriever sniffed around, clearly excited at all the new people and new smells.

"his name is rufus." he said with a small chuckle, his eyes remaining down on his pet.

i smiled and knelt down in the sand to greet rufus as he sniffed around on the ground. a small bark escaped his mouth as he looked at me with his big brown eyes.

i let rufus sniff me before gently rubbing his head with my hands, "hey rufus." i cooed. "duncan, meet my friends. samantha, miranda...carrie and charlotte are off somewhere." i said as i pointed to the two ladies.

he looked at the girls and smiled. "hey." he said with a small wave before looking back down at me. he could tell i was intrigued by his dog, it was clear.

"how old is rufus?" i asked as i continued to pet and rub him gently on the head.

he watched as i showered attention onto rufus, a hint of a smile tugged at the corner of his lips. "he's two." he replied as he knelt down on the ground next to me so we were now level again. "he's putting on his good boy show, but he's a little heathen. don't even let him get in the water or else..."

as if on cue, rufus suddenly ran off in the direction of the ocean at an incredible speed. i couldn't help but chuckle as we both noticed the dog running into the water.

"oh my god, rufus!" duncan exclaimed, running after the dog as fast as he could with me hot on his heels.

as we made our way over to the water, i could see rufus running in and out of the waves, completely drenched. he started to chase and bark at small fish that splashed nearby.

i was running at a fast pace beside duncan as we hurried over to the shoreline, the water gently crashing over our feet.

as soon as we were waist-deep in the water, duncan yelled out for rufus again, "rufus! stop it!" he shouted, trying to get the dogs attention.

the dog only briefly paused and looked back at us before immediately turning right back to chasing the fish.

i couldn't help but laugh at the image of rufus chasing after the fish so enthusiastically, it was so adorable. i watched as he continued darting through the waves, his wet fur sticking to his body.

"god, this dog." duncan mumbled under his breath in frustration. we both waded through the water, trying to keep up with rufus but also making sure we weren't swept away in the current.

i was trying my hardest to stop myself from giggling but it was getting increasingly harder the more rufus kept running around. the waves were getting higher, crashing against us both occasionally. duncan had now finally reached rufus, gently grabbing onto his collar so he would stop running.

rufus suddenly let out a small, frustrated bark, upset that duncan had grabbed him. he tried to wiggle free from duncan's hold, completely oblivious to the fact that he now had us both soaked.

as i looked down at my dress, i groaned in frustration. it was completely drenched, sticking to my skin tightly and clinging to my silhouette. i could tell my bra and underwear were now clearly seen through the thin, white fabric.

as i realized that he now had a clear view of my entire body through my dress, i looked up at him. he was watching me, his eyes slowly moving up and down, taking in the view. i felt my cheeks flush in embarrassment, but there was nothing i could do.

he looked at me now, noticing the situation we were in. we were both drenched from head to toe. with a slightly amused smile, he let out a small laugh.

i couldn't help but let out a small giggle. as he continued to look at me with an amused smile, i realized how absurd the situation was. we were in the ocean, soaked from head to toe and trying to keep track of a hyper golden retriever.

we both laughed together in the water before wading through it, making our way back onto the beach and towards the house we were staying at nearby.

"i can't believe that dog." duncan said as we walked towards the house together, the wet, cold fabric of my dress clinging uncomfortably to my body.

"well, in his defense, he's having the time of his life." i responded before letting out another laugh. i could feel my wet clothes sticking to my skin, making me shiver slightly from the cold. "and so am i." i said truthfully, i was so happy that duncan was here.

he chuckled and nodded in agreement before looking over at me, clearly noticing the shivering. he gently placed a hand around my waist and pulled me in close to him, allowing me to soak up the minimal body heat he had to offer. "yeah...so am i." he said.
