Edd slowly looked to his side as he saw a very old gentlemen next to him. He was hunched over with a cane, like he stated earlier. He had his eyes squinted, almost barely noticeable. He had some blue hair but most were just greyed out. His eyebrows seemed to be making his face go down. He had wrinkles around his face to around his body. He had what seemed to be a robe around him. Edd slowly leant over and also saw a steel pole that had what seemed to be a IV Baggie thing... Edd didn't know what it was called. So he called it that.
He saw it have a string down to the man's arm, a needle seeming to be stuck in his arm. Edd slowly went back in his spot as he looked forward. He wasn't exactly, you know, talking or asking why he broke in his house. But.. He didn't want to make that happen. But he was caught off guard. "Investigating the boogeyman experiment...?" He asked suddenly, his voice oddly softening, like he didn't mind him being in the house.
Edd looked at him, and nodded silently. The man looked at the photo. "That was my daughter.." He stated, which Edd kinda guessed, from The very slightly noticeable blue hairs. "She was taken from us.." Edd suddenly looked at him. "But..she was at a orphanage..." He added, really confused. How did she end up at a orphanage, where parents aren't there for the child, when her father was right here? He got his answer.
"A neighbour.. He uh.." He seemed to be struggling. Edd's new found cat friend poked his head out the bag as he stared at the man, with some confusion too. "No..she. She.. Was gonna take the child.. She took her away by force in front of my wife's eyes. But... I heard her husband had found her dead with a gun shot wound.. He ended up sending her to the police and the police thought we weren't fit since they caught my wife drinking and screaming.. So we got her taken.."
Edd felt sympathy now. This man had a misunderstanding to police because of timing and he lost her.. Even if he didn't know the man, he felt bad. The man then spoke again. "She wasn't 'legally' our child and went to a orphanage.. She didn't know us properly.. Because she was probably three.. I wish I could see her..but.." "You...can't?" "...Yes... She's..gone. I won't see her until my Time comes.." He sighed. "I wish we could've had another child.. But my wife's body wasn't functional and she..well..drunk drove." Edd's eyes widened. He couldn't imagine that.
Loosing your child, having her die later because of a PillPill and her childhood best friend doing it, wife unable to bare a child then suddenly dying in a car accident. It was horrible. "I've been alone for quite some time now.." The man then started walking, so Edd took that as a sign and started following next to him. He saw him go to the living room, which was not as dusty but there was a lot of spider webs and wallpaper being torn. Edd felt sorry now.. He saw the old man slowly sit down in his chair, resting back. Edd gulped and asked.
"Do you know about the boogeyman, then?" He asked, since he mentioned a couple times about the incident for the boogeyman story. He nodded. "I've known for a while.. That's what killed my daughter." He sniffled. Edd's heart physically hurt when he sniffled, he felt so bad for this old man. He went through so much.. The man looked up a bit at Edd and suddenly smiled.
"You have my wife's eyes.." He added, chuckling a bit along with coughing. Edd blinked. He didn't expect his bright cyan eyes to be thought of as someone else's eyes. But he took that compliment at least. The man coughed once more. Everything went quiet before the old man seemed to be letting go. Edd gulped nervously. "Sir..Are you okay?" He asked, and got a saddening response..
"My time has come, child.. I'm far too old. I've lived for at least a hundred and one years.. I've lived long enough." Edd was shocked. He never met someone who lived that long. Longest person he knew was probably fifty. That's all. But that wasn't the point. He saw the man cough more. "Sir, Aren't you gonna fight it?" "As I said, I've lived long enough, boy. I've seen a lot. I can go out in peace.. I can see my family again." He smiled widely. Edd felt tears start coming out. He barely knew this man but he somehow was slightly close by having some information to what happened to laurel's family.
He rubbed his eye until the man slowly went to his drawer and opened it, grabbing someone and holing it out. Edd looked down and saw what it was.. It was a locket. It wasn't a cliché heart locket or something, it was a crow having a moon and sun symbol. Edd gulped as he looked up. The old man seemed to be giving it to him. So he slowly took it, hesitant.. He decided to put it on, right on his neck. He somehow felt, peaceful when he wore it.
"You've got a long way to go-" he coughed. "-sonny. But, believe me.." He said his final words. "Laurel would've wanted this.." He had his smile fade out as he went limp. Edd seemed to be thinking he had no emotions until the tears started rolling down his cheeks and later him getting a red face and a headache shortly after. He felt bad for laurel's family..but.. He was determined.
'Laurel would've wanted this'
That will stick with him as he plans...
He put a blanket over the man and the photograph before he left, a droplet of a tear jerking eight year old being left behind.
