S1 E10: The Guide to Becoming The Best

Butler: Rise-and-Shine! Mr. Ren!

-Sunlight hitting my eyes, the guy pulled the window curtains-

Jiro: Mmmm, close the curtain Felt?!

Butler: Sir, I brought you breakfast. Your sister actually got up earlier this morning.

Jiro: (Groggy) Seriously, Ugh. Gosh, my head...

Butler: Do you want me to bring some medicine, sir? A healer?

Jiro: No...I'm fine. Thank you.

Butler: Anyways, I started you off today with a peeled grapefruit, scrambled eggs, and sliced fruits...consisting berries, strawberries, and hints of---cut appas! Enjoy!

Jiro: Wow, this dish looks amazing!

Butler: I'm glad you like it, sir. I made it myself. Oh my---I forgot your drink

-Handing me a glass of something green inside...he called it a shake-

Jiro: Um, what's inside this?

Butler: Ah, the shake contains much protein to help strengthen the muscles throughout today. It also provides some energy and is good for your health, sir. My apologies, I'll grab something else...

Jiro: No...That's alright! Thank you very much...<chewing on the berries> You did an excellent job.

Butler: (Joyful) You're welcome. Glad someone appreciates my ideas of dieting. Adieu, sir. Please ask if you need anything else.

Jiro: Yup...

-Soon pushing the cart out of the door, he was soon about to close it until I noticed something was missing...MY SWORD-

Jiro: (Paranoid) Excuse me sir, did someone take my blade from my room last night?

Butler: Oh, you mean the black sword with the silver handle, Right?

Jiro: Yes.

Butler: (Honest) I didn't mention it to you but while I passed by Sir Reinhard...he went inside your room and took your weapon off that counter.

Jiro: Dammit. How could I be so careless?! Thanks....I'm gonna find that bastard---

Butler: Please, don't be mad Mr. Ren...he actually gave me this note while you were asleep. I didn't read it, of course that would be rude.

Jiro: Can I see it?

Butler: Absolutely, here you go, sir?

-Handing the note over to me-

Jiro: (Interpreting) I-I-I CAN'T READ THIS GIBBERISH! WHAT DOES IT SAY?

Butler: Wait, you can't read this message, sir.

Jiro: (Embarrassed) Yes....

Butler: Don't be ashamed, Mr. Ren. I was actually the same as you. Hearing where you're from, the slums is the worst district to live in and our education system inside the city is lower than everyone would expect. Paying to learn from a tutor is expensive nowadays...or even affording for a class. I could read it to you, if you want?

Jiro: That would be much appreciated...Thank you.

Butler: Of course, let me see...

-Takes the letter from my hand and began reading-

Butler: Hmm, so apparently he didn't explain why he took your weapon the other night, but Sir Reinhard is a reasonable man. He is looking forward to meeting with you in the courtyard behind the castle.

Jiro: (Cocks his eyebrow) Really? I wonder why...

Butler: I don't know, sir. But, he has taken a liking into you. Probably sees something interesting in you.

Jiro: I can't understand what's so fascinating about me?

Butler: If I could speak sir?

Jiro: Go on.

Butler: You were courageous enough to fight one of the deadliest assassins, Elsa Granhiert. That's much to be appraised on. She's a dangerous woman and if you're in her path...well let's just say it won't end pretty unlike her appearance. They call her the Bowel Hunter for a reason.

Jiro: I could see....you may have a point. But, the story didn't go out as I expected. My best friend was hurt during the battle all because of my recklessness...if only I knew she would be alive after that finishing blow... <grips his bedsheets> Subaru would never have gotten hurt.

Butler: It sounds to me you're determined to not let something like that happen again. There's more to you, sir than meets the eye. Truly inspiring.

Jiro: Wow, you actually think I'm special.

Butler: Of course, <Heading to the door> everyone has a purpose...some are good and others are bad...but that doesn't diminish the truth....that all of us are "special".//<Pausing near the door until he nodded in farewell>// Sir....

-Closing the door behind me, the Butler left me alone to recollect my thoughts-

Jiro: What could "he" want from me?

-Smacking on my food, this was a well-prepared breakfast-

Jiro: (Happily eating) MMMMM-HEHE!

-LATER ON THAT FOLLOWING MORNING-

Whilst Jiro searched around the courtyard, he couldn't find Reinhard anywhere...curious the blonde heard the tree branches next to him rattling...for some odd reason. Moving closer to see what's under there...the crimson-hair knight appears landing down to him with Mockingbird in his hands...nearly cutting Jiro's groin off...the young boy was seen planted onto the grass with a terrified look on his face.

Jiro: AH! WHY DID YOU DO THAT FOR, REINHARD?

Reinhard: (Chuckling) Surprised...to see a knight like myself hiding in the trees...

Jiro: Yeah, ugh <trying to get up> got me good, buddy!

-Being lifted up by the knight, his hand was held out for me, I took it-

Jiro: Thanks...

Reinhard: No problem. I'm sorry if I scared you...<smiles>

Jiro: It's whatever...I was actually frightened by ummm-the cat up in the tree <sarcasm>

Reinhard: Oh? <Smug> Really? Well, let me surprise you again...

-Trying to slash me with Mockingbird, of course he wasn't planning on killing me-

Jiro: Will you cut it off?

Reinhard: That's what I was going for...the ability to cut you.

Jiro: Well, you almost did. A couple times...

Reinhard: My apologies <bowing>

Jiro: Anyways, could I have my sword back?

Reinhard: Of course, <handing it over>

Jiro: Thanks, Reinhard. But, may I ask why did you "steal" it?

Reinhard: Stealing is a harsh word for a knight but I wanted to catch your attention.

Jiro: Okay...but you're leaving something out....tell me the truth

Reinhard: Alright. So, the reason I brought you here is because I want to train you.

Jiro: "Train"? Me?! For real?!

Reinhard: Yeah, why not? You have the potential to become a exceptional fighter...and obviously after fighting Elsa, she might be going after you and Subaru for now-on after losing the insignia.

Jiro: That makes sense but how can I fight against someone on your caliber?

Reinhard: Hmph, you still have much to learn---remember that the master teaches the student everything he hopes to become. The Best. Passing on what I once learned from my predecessor is important...strength, mastery, and the will to become better is the key to being a great warrior. But, most of all...the determination to never give up because if you're unable to give into failure, who can stop you, Ren Jiro.
