Bᴇʟʟʏ's Bᴀᴅ Lᴜᴄᴋ

After helping Liz to the car, Dakota went to get in, but something, or someone, caught his eye.
"I'll be right back." He says to Liz. Before she could ask where he was going, he closed the door, "River!"
The girl turns to him. Her usual scowl on her face, "What do you want?"
"I'm just checking to make sure you have a ride home."
"Why do you care?" She scoffs
Dakota frowns. He thought his reasoning was pretty obvious, "Because you've been drinking and Liz would be highly upset if you ended up dead."
"Why don't you go check up on those girls that have been all over you tonight? I'm sure they'd want your ride home." She snaps.
Dakota's face drops as she walks off. He watches as she gets in what seems one of her friends' cars. He slowly walks back toward Jeremiah's car. To say he was confused would be an understatement. As he gets in, he looks toward Liz. She had her head tilted back and her eyes closed.
"Bye." He hears as Belly gets in the car. Jeremiah starts the car and pulls off before slamming on the brakes. The three in the back jerk forward.
"Dude." Liz groans
It was then that Dakota noticed Steven wasn't in the car. He sighs, "We fucking forgot Steven.
"Shit." Jeremiah says as he puts the car in park and the both of them get out, "Watch Conrad. We'll be right back."
The two boys jog back toward the beach in search of their friend. Unfortunately, they fail to see the cop walking up toward the jeep.

Getting caught by the police definitely wasn't on Dakota's bucket list for this summer, but here he was, standing next to his sister waiting for Laurel to lay into all of them.
"Officers, thank you. It won't happen again, I can promise you that much." Laurel says as the kids sit in the hallway
"Tell Mr. Fisher the chief wants to set up a tea time when he gets back in town." The officer says
"Absolutely. Sorry again for all the trouble. Have a good night, Officers." She says as she leads them out the door. She turns to the teens, "How could you guys be so irresponsible?"
"Mom, it wasn't a big deal. All right? Seriously." Steven says as he walks up to her, "The cops were just looking to break up the bonfire."
"Not a big deal?"
"Yes."
"I would say getting picked up by the cops for underage drinking is a pretty big deal, Steven." She scolds
He starts sniffing before he scoffs. Laurel looks confused, "Were you guys smoking tonight?"
Dakota furrows his brows as he looks toward Laurel. She was definitely taken aback.
"What?" She exclaims, "Keep your voice down. Susannah's asleep on the couch."
"Wha- I wasn't yelling. You were." He stutters
"Just so you know, Laurel.." Jeremiah steps up as Steven moves to stand behind Belly, "I-I didn't drink tonight. I was the DD, I swear."
She then turns to Conrad, "You're the oldest. What the hell's gotten into you?" He stays silent as she turns to Belly, "And when did you leave the house without telling anybody? And what in the world are you wearing?"
"It's Taylor's." She replies as she covers up, "And why am I the only one who's not allowed to go out?"
"It's not that you're not allowed, it's that you should have told us you were going." She sighs, "How did you even get there?"
"I walked." She mutters
"Jesus. You know better than to walk that far down the beach alone late at night."
"Can you stop treating me like a kid?"
"If you want to be treated like an adult, you need to act like one."
"Then maybe you guys should, too." Conrad shrugs
"What does that mean?" She says as Conrad looks away, "I hope you realize this night could have ended a lot differently if your family wasn't your family."
"We're sorry, Laur." Dakota mumbles
She sighs, "Just," She shakes her head, "go to bed, guys."
Dakota wastes no time in turning away and heading upstairs toward his room. On his way up, he turns to Belly, "You know, every time we get caught, you're with us."
"I didn't even do anything." Belly says with furrowed brows
"Yeah, but you were there." He says before turning to Steven, "Your sister's bad luck, dude."
"Tell me about it." Steven mutters, but Belly heard him.
"The streak continues." Dakota says opening his door
"Wha-" Belly says before sighing and entering her room.
Dakota sighs as he closes his door behind him. As he plops down on his bed, he recounts tonight's events to himself. He found himself going back to what River had said. He couldn't understand why she was so upset. He was just checking to make sure she had a ride home.
Of course, the two had their usual banter, but that was the first time he had seen her in months. While he was somewhat excited to see her, it seemed like he was the last person she wanted to see.
And what the hell did she mean when she brought up the girls he was with tonight? They were just some girls he was flirting with for the night. They didn't mean anything.
He shakes his head as starts to get ready for bed. Of course, the one time he's nice to her, it backfires.
