05 - Long Time, No See

As the two of them walked up to the restaurant, they saw two people outside of the door hugging. Once the married couple watched as they pulled apart from one another, Richie spoke up, "Wow, you two look amazing. What the fuck happened to me?"

Ashley laughed slightly, her eyes landing upon the red-headed woman in front of her. It took a minute for her to realize that the woman standing in front of her was one of her childhood best friends, Beverly Marsh. Once Ashley realized exactly who she was, a certain energy washed over her. It made her feel funny inside, but she brushed it off once Richie elbowed her gently. Her eyes darted towards her husband, noticing the twinkle in his eye. He didn't even have to say a word for her to know that he was thinking he was right about this whole thing turning out fine.

"Hey, man.", The man in front of Beverly gave Richie a welcoming hug, making the her smile widely before glancing back at Beverly.

"Ashley, hey. Wow, you look... great.", The red-headed woman practically engulfed her in a warm embrace, making the blonde woman jump a little at the sudden interaction. It only took a second for Ashley to relax in the hug, closing her eyes as she hugged her back. Memories of Beverly came flooding in, bringing her to clear her throat and take a step back.

"Uh, yeah... you, too. God, it's been a long time.", Ashley stuffed her hands into her jean pockets, giving Beverly a warm smile as she stared back in confusion.

"Yeah, it has.", Beverly gave her a tight-lipped smile, turning her attention back towards Ben and Richie. Ashley let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding once Beverly looked away. It wasn't quite a shock since Ash had always been intimidated by her dearest friend.

Richie went to hug Beverly, giving Ash some time to greet Ben. "Hey, Benny boy. God, look at you! You're ripped."

"Uh, thanks, Ashley.", Ben couldn't help but laugh, pulling away to look at her and Richie once more. "You two uh... you two just met again?"

"Oh, no!", Ashley laughed, glancing back at Richie with a smile plastered on her face. Once he gave her a cheeky grin, she shook her head. Looking back at Ben and Beverly, she held her left hand up for them to see her ring. "Married, actually."

"No shit.", Beverly's eyes widened, reaching for her hand to get a better look at the ring she had on her finger. "Wow, who would've thought."

After a moment of silence, the four of them decided to head into the restaurant. It was a nice little Chinese place that seemed incredibly fancy to be in such a small town like Derry. Although, being the group of kids that they were, it was very odd to see something like this when all they had were libraries and ice cream shops back then. Occasionally, they would step foot into the small little diner on the corner of town, but it was very rare. Eating out at a restaurant wasn't something the group was necessarily into. They preferred eating at home, mainly because they would try to avoid bullies at all costs growing up.

Once they neared a corner that led to a fancy circle table, they took notice of three men standing over by the small aquarium of fish. Ashley took notice of them, realizing that it was Bill, Mike, and Eddie. A smile rose upon her lips, but soon faded once she was taken aback by a loud sound. Turning her head over her shoulder, she saw Richie standing in front of a gong.

"Is it just me, or has the Losers Club officially begun?", He asked as everyone in the room stared at him.

"Look at these guys.", Eddie spoke, pointing to Richie, Ash, Ben, and Beverly. It was completely silent as the awkwardness soaked up all the energy between the group. Now, it didn't last long because about thirty minutes later they were all cheery as they clinked their glasses together in celebration of reconnecting with one another after all these years.

Richie tilted his head back with his glass in his mouth, chugging his drink down as Ashley laughed at him doing so in the process. He gave her a side glance, tilting his head back down as the glass fell onto the table. He gave her a wink, turning to Eddie to say, "So, wait, Eddie you got married?"

"Yeah, why's it so fucking funny, dickwad?", Eddie asked, furrowing his eyebrows together as he stared Richie down.

"What, to like a woman?", Richie asked, teasing him as the blonde woman beside him chimed in.

"Hey, hey. Leave him alone, Rich.", She turned to Eddie, giving him a smile.

"Thank you, Ash.", Eddie smiled back.

"Besides, maybe he was drunk when he got married.", Ashley laughed, bringing the whole table to laugh before she shook her head. "Wait, no. She was definitely the one who was drunk!"

"Fuck you both.", Eddie glared at the pair.

"Fuck you!", Richie exclaimed.

"Alright, what about you trashmouth? You get married?", Bill asked from across the table, watching as Richie gave him a toothy grin. The whole table, except for Ben and Beverly, all stared at Richie as they waited for a response.

"As a matter of fact, I did.", He turned his head to look at Ashley as she stuffed some Chinese noodles into her mouth. Once she felt all the eyes on her, she looked up with noodles hanging out of the corner of her mouth. "Yeah, no, uh... Eddie's mom and I are extremely happy."

"Fuck you.", Eddie commented dryly before taking a sip of his drink. It was known that the man hated jokes about his mother, but Richie was just being himself. And sometimes, being himself got him into some serious trouble amongst friendship.

Once Ash had swallowed her food, she glanced around the table. She decided to steer the conversation about Eddie's mother away. "Yeah, so anyways. Richie and I got married when we were..."

"In our twenties.", Richie ended her sentence for her, placing his left hand on her shoulder. "I still remember that day like it was last week."

"Tell us.", Beverly spoke up, bringing the couple to look at her and everyone else. Ashley's eyes drifted slowly away from her own, almost forcing herself to look away. At least, it felt as if she had to do that. "Go ahead, how'd the wedding go?"

"Oh, uh... well it wasn't the best wedding in the history of weddings, that's for sure.", Ash laughed, nudging Richie's arm. He laughed alongside of her, looking amongst their friends as he pulled his hand away from her.

"Yeah, so it starts with us getting hitched and all that jazz.", Richie started, making the others laugh at his choice of words. Turning to glance at his wife, he shrugged his shoulders. "Sorry, babe."

"No, no. Go ahead.", She chuckled, placing her right hand on his shoulder which made him nod his head. Once he knew that she wasn't hurt, he continued on. So, she took her hand away from him as she fidgeted around with her ring.

"So, everything was going great until Ash here wants to go up to the chocolate fountain that we had.", He pointed towards her, making them all cover their mouths with their hands to stifle a laugh. "She goes to put her strawberry in the chocolate before my mother trips over her dress, falling against Ash and making her fall into it. So, it knocks over and Ash literally gets it all over her dress."

"Yeah, so when I say that chocolate was everywhere. I mean it was everywhere.", Ash shook her head, glancing between everyone. "I swear I smelled like chocolate the next day, even after taking a shower."

"Yeah, but it was the best fucking honeymoon night.", Richie joked, causing her to slap his forearm as she gasped. Without giving her any mind, he continued speaking, "I swear, I am so glad she fell into that fountain."

"Richie!", She exclaimed, trying to mask her embarrassment as they all stared at the two of them. "Jesus, you really don't know how to keep that mouth of yours closed."

"You preferred it open that night.", He grinned, watching as she covered her face with the palms of her hands. Placing his left hand over her back, he began rubbing her back. "I'm just teasing, Ash."

"Alright, alright, alright.", A voice spoke up from behind them, making Ashley move her hands away from her face to look over her shoulder. There stood Carrie, making Richie clasp his hands together. "Hey, what'd I miss?"

"Sex talk.", Bill joked, making Carrie chuckle softly as she took a seat between Ashley and an empty seat. It took everyone, except Richie and Ash, a moment to realize who the woman was before it all clicked in their minds. Carrie Tozier, whom was the complete opposite of her older brother, Richie.

"The boys okay?", Ash asked Carrie, making the brunette-haired woman glance over at her sister-in-law.

"Yeah, I told them to go to sleep or else you and Richie weren't bringing them food back from the restaurant.", She gave her a thumbs up, making the couple glance at one another before looking back at Carrie.

"Boys?", Bill asked Ashley, making her glance over towards him. The woman opened her mouth to speak, but was taken aback once Richie spoke for her.

"Our kids.", He responded quickly, looking back at Carrie. Ashley shook her head, smiling slightly as her hand landed upon the top of her glass.

"You'll all meet them.", Ashley assured the group before Richie spoke to his sister. It was definitely always something being said between the siblings.

"How are they supposed to eat the food we bring if they're sleeping?", Richie asked curiously, tilting his head as he watched as his sister tried putting the pieces together.

"Oh, shit. Well, they aren't going to sleep any time soon.", Carrie shrugged her shoulders, glancing to her left to see Eddie staring at her. She gave him a warm smile, saying, "Hey, Eddie."

"Carrie, uh... you look..."

"Eddie's married.", Richie cut him off, raising his glass in the air. "Cheers to that miracle, right Ash?"

She glared at her husband, smacking him on the arm before looking over to Carrie as she nodded her head. "Married, huh? Well, congratulations. I'm happy for you, Eds."

"Alright! Let's talk about something else.", Eddie exclaimed, glancing around the table. He made eye contact with each of them, except Carrie. Seeing the girlfriend he had before moving away face to face was very unsettling, especially when he forgot everything about her. Now, seeing her in person only made him wish he never left her side.

"Fine, then let's talk about the elephant not in the room.", He held his hands out, gesturing for Ben. "What the fuck man?"

"Okay, okay. Obviously, I lost a few pounds.", Ben addressed the group, listening to each of them speak at once about his weight loss.

"You're like, well... you're hot.", Richie added.

"Extremely.", Ashley chimed in. "Say, you've got to have a girlfriend back home, right?"

"You better.", Richie continued on. "You're like every Brazilian soccer player wrapped up into one person. You're gorgeous, man."

"Leave him alone, you're embarrassing him.", Beverly spoke up, grinning from ear to ear as everyone around the table laughed.

"Okay, okay. Come on, guys!", Ben exclaimed, trying to rub off all the attention that he was getting from everyone. In order to do so, he pointed to the empty seat beside Eddie and Carrie. "Is Stanley coming, or what?"

Everyone got quiet in that moment, all repeating the name as each of them tried to remember who Ben was talking about. The only one at the table that even remembered right away was Ashley Tozier. Her eyes remained glued to the empty seat as memories of the two of them rushed in. She remembered the Jewish boy whom made her feel at peace all of the time. The one who was most likely to succeed in life than any of the others.

Stanley Uris was an extraordinary individual and Ashley loved him for that. He was her best friend growing up and the thought of him not showing up made her feel uneasy. She remembered just how hard it was to convince him into doing anything that would make his father look at him any differently. As if Stanley hadn't already disappointed his father by hanging around Richie. She just knew that wherever Stanley was, he was doing something with his life. She knew that he was very responsible and that maybe this small little gathering got in the way of his own successful life.

Now, she would be lying if she said that him not being there didn't bother her one bit because it did. Just thinking of him made her want to go to wherever he was and talk him into coming down to this small town. Stanley was the type of person to buy into whatever Ashley wanted him to do. 'Ashley played a big role in his life when they were children, so it pained her to even think about forgetting about him completely. She just hoped that he was alright.

"No, he's a fucking pussy. He's not gonna show.", Richie spoke up as he rubbed his hands together. It brought Ash out of her trance, causing her to let out a deep sigh.

"Why would Stanley save you anyway? Was I not the one who basically performed surgery on you after Bowers cut you up?", Eddie asked Ben, smacking his arm as it all came back to him. "Holy shit! That's right!"

"Please tell me you ended up becoming a doctor, Eds.", Beverly spoke, saying what everyone was honestly thinking in that moment.

"No, I uh... ended up becoming a risk analyst.", He responded to her, bringing Richie to tilt his head to the side as he crossed his arms over his chest.

"Oh, that sounds really interesting. What does that entail?", Richie asked.

"Yeah, so I work for like a big insurance firm and uh-", Eddie was cut off by the sound of Richie snoring, making everyone around the table laugh. It never took much to anger the man, not even as a little boy. "Fuck you, man. Fuck you."

"So, was this job invented before fun?", Richie asked him, making him even more angry. It had always pleased Richie whenever he could rile someone up. Just the thought of someone being mad at him made him excited.

"Oh, that's so not funny.", Eddie argued.

"It is funny.", Richie replied, laughing after he made a mockery out of Eddie. Once everyone joined in, Eddie looked to his left to see Ben laughing as well.

"What the fuck are you laughing at?", Eddie asked him in a serious tone before Beverly steered the conversation away.

"I propose a toast.", She said as she raised her beer bottle in the air, looking between all of them. "To the Losers."

"To the Losers!", Ash exclaimed, raising her bottle up in the air along with everyone else as they clinked them together. As they drew their arms back, her eyes locked with Beverly's. She felt the same feeling she did early, making her look away quickly towards her husband as he wrapped his arm over the back of her chair. Richie was quick to give her a peck on her cheek, making her smile as she took a sip of beer. They were so in love and it wasn't a shock to anyone. Besides, maybe Richie was actually right for once. Maybe tonight wasn't going to be so bad. At least, that's what they all believed.
