The Last Jedi

I stayed in uniform, just in case. Knowing Poe, things are going to get nasty. I stood behind Leia, watching and hearing every move from Poe. I heard BB-8 threw the intercom.

"Happy beeps here, buddy, come on." Poe said as he got in place. Everyone was in the control room, getting things done. "We've pulled crazier stunts than this." He isnt wrong, that one time at Mos Eisley Cantina where we were spying- you just gotta be there to believe it.

"Just for the record, Commander Dameron, I'm with the droid on this one." Leia agreed.

"Thank you for your support, General."

"BB-8 is never wrong." I said. Leia chuckled.

"Attention!" Poe says to the First Order. "This is Commander Poe Dameron of the Republic fleet, I have an urgent communique for General Hugs." Classic Poe. He cuts us off. Leia turns to me, knowing what I have to do.

"I need every pilot and bomber ready. Knowing the First Order, and Poe." I whispered. "Things will get rough. I need every man and woman on this." I looked at everyone in the room.

"Yes Commander!" Everyone saluted and ran off. I saw Poe's ship as he going for a dreadnought.

"Slick son of a bitch." I chuckled. Poe's fighter soars atop of the Fulminatrix's hull, weaving and rolling throughout the aircraft's laser fire. He manages to fire the Fulminatrix's enemy cannons with fire of his own.

"All right, taking out the cannons now. Hera, start your approach."

"Copy that." I said through the intercom. "Lets go!" We ran out. We gathered everyone. "Lets show the first order who they are messing with. Bombers, stay by, ill call in Jules. We cant miss this."

"Be careful." Jules said as she puts on her helmet.

"Dont worry about me. You be careful." She grabbed my hand.

"Im sorry about Ben. I really am." I patted her hand.

"Its not your fault. After this, we have to have a long talk, youre buying drinks." We both laughed.

"Go! They need a commander." I smiled and gave her a hug. I turned on the ship and headed out. I put on my helmet and tested the intercom, connecting to Leia and everyone else. "Hear me?"

"Perfectly clear Commander Hera." We flew out, giving Poe some backup. "You did it, Poe. Now get your squad back here so we can get out of this place."

"Should we pull out then?" I asked.

"No, General... We can do this. We have... a chance to take down a dreadnought." I shot at the TIE fighters as they were coming out. "These things are fleet killers. We can't let it get away."

"Disengage now... Commander, that is an order..." I didn't hear anything from Poe. He turned off the comms.

"General, should we turn back?" There was no answer back. I took a deep breath. I gripped the handles hard.

"Yeeeaaahh-ho! All clear, bring the bombs!" I closed my eyes.

"Bombers, youre up!" I said through the comms. I waited as a squad of heavy bombers and a X-wing ships known as Colbrat Squadron and Blue Squadron approaches the dreadnought. "Bombers, keep that tight formation. Fighters, protect the bombers. It's not every day we get a shot at a dreadnought, so make this count."

"Copy that, commander. If you get us there, we'll give it to them."

"Copy that."

"Fighters incoming." A squad of First Order TIE fighters approach the squardon. I bite my lip. I took a deep breath again.

"Gunners, look alive." I said back. Hera, look alive. Just as we were heading in, TIE fighters started to fire at us.

"Sub fighters at 2-10!"

"They're getting in! Form up!" So much chaos was getting in the comms. There was too many of them.

"They are everywhere! I can't--!" Tubbs ship explodes. I put my ship into speed, making some following me. I shot a few into dust, but some were still following. The squad comes onto heavy fire.

"Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! We're going down!" Another one gone.

"I see it. Hera, they have targeted the fleet and begun the priming sequence." Poe said as he saw one last TIE on my tail. He shot it down.

"Copy that. We are almost there. Bombardiers.... begin your drop sequence." I nodded to myself. Happy beeps Hera. Happy Beeps.

"I've got a visual on the target. We are approaching the point of attack. The bombs are armed." We're in place, here we go. This is going to work. The 4 out of 5 of our bombers crashed. Due to fighting, X-Wings crashing into them. I turned back. One last ship.

"Paige, come in. We're over the target. Why aren't your bay doors open? You're the only bomber left. It's all down to you!" Come on Paige. You can do this. Everything was in slow motion. The bomber door opened and dropped them.

"Bombs away!" Tallie said. I saw an TIE fightercrash into the last ship, making it explode. With Paige in it. I closed my eyes and banged my head against the seat. "Direct hit! Dreadnought down!" We headed back to base. I landed my ship, opening the door. I looked to Tallie. She knew I saw talking about Jules. She slowly shook her head. Shes gone. I ripped the helmet off of my head and wiped my tears off.

"Commander?"

"One second." I waved off. I heard another ship landing. I looked to see it was Poe. I unbuckled and jumped down of my ship. I angrily walked to him. Poe saw my face and ran out. "Poe!" I followed him out.

"Finn! Hey, buddy. It's so good to see you." I saw him chatting with Finn.

"Finn! Youre awake!" I said as i tried to stop the leaks. He was so lost, looking around. He was leaking, wetting everything.

"What?" Was all he said.

"Let's uh... We need to get you dressed. Come on. You must have a thousand questions." Poe tried to cover the holes to stop the leakage.

"Where is Rey?" He looked at us. Poe and I looked at each other.

"Lets get you dressed first and let Leia tell you." I told him. We walked into Poe's room, let Finn change. It was just me and Poe outside. I smacked his head.

"Ow!" He rubbed the spot I hit him.

"We lost people!" I yelled at him. "Including Jules. All because you wanted to take out a dreadnought."

"But we won."

"Seriously? We lost good people. Think next time Poe. I get it, you like the high of it. Its not about winning, its about saving." I turned around, walking to the control room. Leia had saw me walk in. I didnt want to talk about the pilots and bombers we just had lost. Poe came in the control room, minutes after i did, all eyes were on him. Finn looked better, which is good to see. Poe came to talk to Leia, about what happened. He stood in front of her, I stood beside him. Leia just gave Poe this glare, this stare. Leia then slapped Poe. My eyes widen.

"You're demoted." She told him. Poe's jaw dropped. "And you, youre full commander." She pointed at me. My eyes widen, i dont know about that! I need Poe by my side! Leia walks away.

"What? Wait! We took down a dreadnought." Poe follows her. She turns around and looks at him.

"At what cost?"

"If you start an attack, you follow through."

"Poe, get your head out of your cockpit. There are things you can not solve... By jumping into an X-wing and blowing something up! I need you to learn that." Poe grabs her arm.

"There were heroes on that mission."

"Dead heroes, No leaders." Poe lets go and she walks off.

"Hera?" He was hoping for me to be on his side.

"She's right. im sorry brother." His face fell. I crossed my arms as Finn as talked to Leia about Rey.

"We're really nowhere. How's Rey going to find us now?" Leia shows him the cloaked bracelet. "A cloaked binary beacon?"

"To light her way home." She smiled.

"Alright, Well, until she comes back, what's the plan?"

"We need to find a new base." I sat down on the table, watching them.

"One with enough power to get a distress signal to our allies. scattered in the Outer Rim." I told Finn, making him turn to see me.

"Proximity alert!" Ackbar yelled. The alarms went off. I jumped from the table. First Order.

"They found us." Said a soldier. I ran to the table where we can see who was around us. 

"That's impossible." Poe ran next to me. "It's Snoke's ship. You've gotta be kidding me. Can we jump to lightspeed?"

"We have enough fuel for just one jump." What! Oh no. This cant be happening.

"Do it. We have to get out of here." Poe commanded.

"Wait." She lifted her hand. "They tracked us through lightspeed."

"That's impossible." Finn shook his head.

"Yes. And they've done it."

"So if we jump to lightspeed... they'll just find us again, and we'll be out of fuel. They've got us." I said as i ran my hand through my hair.

"Not yet, they don't." Poe went to Leia. "Permission to jump in an X-wing and blow something up?"

"Permission granted." I ran to them. "Keep an eye on him." She looked at me.

"Yes."

"Admiral, spin us around!" Leia yelled as Poe and I ran out. BB-8 followed us.

"Don't wait for us! Jump in and fire her up!" Poe told him. We ran to our ships. I was ahead of him, and BB-8. I made to my ship and I got in, strapped. I put on my helmet and went off. The whole base blew off as i barely made it out.

"No." I said as I turned back. I turned on my comms. "This is commander Hera Dameron, im going in."

"Hera, turn back!" Finn yells. I couldn't, too many TIE fighters on my tail. Okay, so this insane. Im the only X-Wing out here. No back up. By the way the base exploded, nobody could've survived that. Poe? He was too far away from me, he is safe. I know it. I shot a couple of TIE-Fighters out of the sky, some still following me.

"You can do this Dameron." I whispered to my self. I closed my eyes and shot the last ones following me. A few more were coming in. I saw this one ship, different from the others. I had the target on it. My thumb hovered over the button. Soon as I had it, i was going to press the button. I looked to see, the one and only Ben. Everything went silent. I just heard him breathing. He looked me, as if he was going to shoot me down, do the same. I saw this scared feeling coming from his eyes. My thumb drops to its side. I couldn't do it. Not him. Then just like that, everything went black.
