Steve pulls his motorcycle up to his apartment building as he replays the days events in his head, smiling softly. He was given some pretty good advice today, not to mention the couple of interesting run-ins with a certain brunette.
He walks upstairs, approaching his place just as his neighbor is locking her door, hands full of laundry. Steve nods politely and the blonde returns the smile.
"Oh hey, I think you left your stereo on." She informs him as she heads downstairs.
"Oh, thank you." Steve smiles before she leaves then quickly turns back to his door with a frown. 1940's music is playing from his record player and he knows somethings wrong. He did not leave music on when he left this morning. He takes a moment to listen before deciding to enter through his window.
He swiftly makes it in without a sound and starts scanning the room. The song takes a pause for a beat before continuing to blast.
Steve switches from wall to wall, shield in hand, before peaking around the corner to look at the record spinning before he spots June standing over Fury who's laying out on one of the chairs.
"I don't remember giving you a key." Steve directs at Fury causing June to spin around at the first word, gun ready to fire before quickly realizing it's the person who lives here.
Fury groans as he rises. "You really think I'd need one?" He smarts off. June chuckles.
"I could enter this place twenty different ways without a key babe, don't flatter yourself." She smirks.
"My wife kicked me out." Fury continues. "Car broke down, so June drove me here." He lies.
"I didn't know you were married." Steve replies with warily.
Fury nods his head to the side. "A lot of things you don't know about me." Well he knew June was his Goddaughter so that explains the ride. Wife he couldn't picture.
"I know, Nick. That's the problem." Steve sighs, finally stepping around to turn on a light. As soon as the lamp turns on he notices the blood on Fury and June's faces. His expression falls. Fury holds up a hand for him to wait before turning the lamp back off.
June sighs, shifting legs as Fury types something on his phone and turns it to Steve. 'EARS EVERYWHERE' Steve reads. His face turns to 'oh shit' and he begins to look around.
"I'm sorry to have to do this, but I had no place else to crash." Fury explains.
Steve looks to June confused as to why he couldn't stay with her.
She speaks up. "Yep, husband and I are supposed to be going out of town tonight, so you know. He doesn't like people there when we're not home." She smiles like it's no big deal, knowing Brock has tried to call her at least a thousand times and they should've already be gone by now.
She looks out the window to the darkness. He's definitely losing his shit right now, oh yep, him and her father. And when they both find out about what happened with Fury? Well, they'll probably want to kill him and ship her off as if she was some teen girl needing to be sent to boarding school rather than a grown ass woman.
Fury flashes his screen to Steve once again. 'SHIELD COMPROMISED' explains the real reason behind all of this.
"Who else knows about your wife?" Steve asks smartly.
'YOU JUNE AND I' Fury shows him as he stands. "Just... my friends."
"Is that what we are?" Steve looks at him, then to June who's watching Fury closely. He's pretty banged up and she's actually worried about him, something Steve hasn't seen from her til now. Concern. Worry. An emotion other than annoyance really.
"That's up to you." Fury tells him. Suddenly a gunshot fires through the wall before he can say anything else. June jumps instantly as Fury falls to the floor. Steve leans over to him before looking out the window. June turns around with wide eyes full of anger.
Steve grabs Fury's arm and starts dragging him behind the other wall he was just leaning against and June follows. Fury begins to cough.
"Shit." She spits out.
Steve goes to turn around when Fury abruptly grabs his wrist and then takes Juniper's hand before holding up the silver flashdrive. Steve goes to grab it before June quicky intercepts.
"Don't trust anyone. Only trust each other." Fury struggles to tell the two.
"Uncle Nick-" Juniper begins to argue, even with him almost dying, about why the hell she would trust Steve out of all people before a loud banging noise interrupts her and the door bursts open. June pulls her gun back out, fires off a warning shot, then steps out to fire another before she see's who it is.
"Captain Rogers?" The intruder calls out.
"Sharon! Goddamn it, I almost shot you!" Juniper breathes out.
"Juniper?" Sharon looks at her best friend in shock before looking to Steve as he peaks his head around.
"Captain, I'm Agent 13 of S.H.I.E.L.D. Special Service." Sharon says, gun still in position.
"Kate?" Steve asks.
"Who the fuck is Kate?" Juniper asks as Sharon rounds the corner to access before finally lowering her gun.
"I was assigned to check on you." Sharon says.
"On who's order?" Steve rushes out. Juniper laughs. This is the assignment Sharon had been given? The two life-long friends haven't had the time to catch up in a while, but during their last phone call Sharon said she had a important top-secret mission.
"S.H.I.E.L.D.'s." Sharon answers.
June snorts. "Thank goodness I wasn't assigned this task."
"You two know each other?" Steve looks between the two, before focusing on June. Who the hell doesn't she know?
"I would look just about as horrible as you do in those scrubs and I would've had to watch this one?" June points her thumb at Steve, ignoring his question.
"Hey, okay I picked these out." Sharon defends before bending down to check Fury's pulse.
June watches as Fury's words play out in her head. 'Only trust each other'. As if she's going to trust the government's lap dog over her childhood best friend? He should know better than that. But when it comes to the flashdrive that's out of Sharon's hands, league, and knowledge.
Sharon pulls out a radio. "Foxtrot is down, he's unresponsive. I need EMT's."
"Sharon, what the hell?" Juniper grabs her arm. The whole point of them coming here was to avoid all that.
"He has no pulse!" She looks to up to Juniper like 'what the hell else was I supposed to do.'
"Do we have a 20 on the shooter?" A dispatcher comes through.
"Tell him I'm in pursuit." Steve says looking out the window at a flash of silver moving.
"Wai-" June goes to tell him 'not without her he sure doesn't' until he runs and jumps out his window. "Alrighty then." She sighs, kicking the wall in frustration. Her head starts spinning with so many things happening at once.
"Juniper, breath." Sharon is now in front of her with her hands on June's arms. She exhales. "He's gonna be okay, Fury is gonna be fine. You know he is. He's tough." June nods, but she knows that's not true. He gave her and Steve the files. Which means he knew he wasn't making it out of this apartment. "Come here." Sharon pulls her in for a hug. After a moment June returns it. "I've missed you."
"Missed you too." June enjoys the embrace before pulling away.
"How've you been?" Sharon asks her, hating that they've both been too busy to hang out recently.
"Oh, you know staying busy. Brock got a new promotion and..." She trails off. S.H.I.E.L.D. is compromised. 'Don't trust anyone'... Does that include her own husband? Of course not. Right? Brock loves this job almost as much as she does. Hell, he lives for it. Excitement runs through his veins getting to be apart of and now lead S.T.R.I.K.E. It's one of the things that made June fall for him in the first place: he shares her kind of joy and thrill for their work.
"Ugh, I heard, believe me." Sharon rolls her eyes, snapping June from her thoughts.
She nods slowly. "I went to see Aunt Peggy today." June decides on another subject.
"Oh, good. I haven't been in a while..." Sharon's words slowly fade.
He wanted to go out tonight. Of town. The last time that happened their honeymoon was moved up and she missed out on 'Avengers Initiative' that she was actually supposed to be a part of.
She replays their phone conversation from earlier through her mind. He sounded rushed and occupied, and she heard some sort of yelling in the background. 'Just work.' He said. Right... Then why does she have this feeling creeping up her spine?
She trusts her husband, of course she does. That's what the wedding vowes and the weddings bands are for.
Right...

Sharon-June inspiration come back to meeeee. Last year when I was heavily planning out this book & the entire series I was so excited and inspired for their friendship & now I'm just kinda meh. Like I'm excited for all of June's other friendships but theirs & theirs is the longest... ugh.
Anyways, June if finally starting to wake tf up and connect the dots !!
And yes like in every fanfiction, some things are changed to fit my story, so Sharon's parts in this scene are a little different.
Hope y'all enjoyed this chapter, see you in the next one! <3
