"Have I ever told you you're the most beautiful girl I've ever seen?"

"Have I ever told you that if you make me blush one more time, I'll kick you?"

"You wouldn't..."

"Do you really want to try me?"

Garfield smiled, sweeping a lock of her hair from one side of her face to the other. "You love me too much."

She kicked his shin gently, "What was that, again?"

"Barely hurt."

"Do you want it to hurt?"

"No, ma'am."

Raven nodded. "Thought so."

Currently, the pair was inside of Garfield's room, putting the finishing touches on Raven's part of the assignment that had put them together in the first place. The video was completely edited, only needing Garfield's half to complete it.

Raven sighed as she applied colors to a certain drawing. Lately, she'd been thinking of her father. Not that she missed him, of course not. She had just been feeling as if their story had no closure, no substance. The last thing that happened was Garfield coming in to rescue her from a beating. It pained her to know that he'd never face justice. He was never going to be prosecuted for his actions that hurt Raven; both physically and emotionally.

Until she met Garfield, Raven felt worthless. Nobody could love her if not even her own flesh and blood loved her, she would think. Then along came Garfield. His smile and his eyes and his hopeful words that gave her strength every time he would simply open his mouth. She loved him, he gave her hope, happiness, and a sense of family she never experienced before.

"Rae? Whatcha thinking about?" Garfield tapped her shoulder, shaking her out of her slight trance.

"Hm.. Oh, nothing. Just lost in my own thoughts.."

"It wasn't nothing. Just tell me."

Raven shrugged, then added nonchalantly, "Trigon."

The tips of Garfield's lips curled down at the mere mention of his name. The name of the person who had hurt his girl for so long. "What about him?"

"Do you think he's ever going to jail?"

"Oh.. Uh.." He sincerely did not know how to answer that. Truth be told, it was unlikely he'd ever be caught. Trigon was well known. He had people to manipulate and money to buy himself out of trouble. And even if he was caught, it wouldn't be for too long. He was strong, capable, and menacing. Nobody in their right mind would lock him up. But he didn't want his girl to lose faith or feel hopeless, so of course he did the most reasonable thing he could think of.

He pressed his lips to her forehead and whispered, "If course he will be, babygirl."

But, even if it was a lie to protect her, it was still a lie.

And it was going to come to bite him back eventually.
