forty-two: sweet [[ extra ]]

"Oh, hey, Jihyun, how are you?"

The man in question hadn't expected to find Yoongi at his doorstep, late one night, without having been warned beforehand by any of his family members - well, his parents were currently on a trip for their anniversary, so they couldn't have known, and it was unlikely Eunjin did, either, because she was asleep by now.

"I'm good," Jihyun said with some hesitance. "Does Jimin...know you were stopping by this late?"

"Yeah." Yoongi showed off a small, somewhat shy smile. "He asked me to come over. Did he not tell you."

"He didn't. But that's alright." Returning the smile, Jihyun stepped to the side and gestured for the younger to go inside the house. And Yoongi did just that.

Within seconds of setting foot in the kitchen, the mint-haired boy heard footsteps coming from the staircase, and so he lifted his head to watch as Jimin came down to the kitchen wearing plaid pajamas and no socks. His newly dyed pink hair was an absolute mess - he must have realized this just then, for his hands quickly shot up to smooth down the ends sticking up like hay from a haystack.

"Hi, Yoongi," he said softly. A shy smile of his own peeked through but it faded as he turned to his brother. "Ah, sorry, Jihyun, I forgot to mention he was coming over. I fell asleep not too long ago."

"It's fine, Jimin, don't worry about it."

"Are you still going to Sehun's?"

"I am," the older said with a sigh. "He told me a while ago I owed him a favor and he recently decided that favor is, for whatever reason, binge-watching the Pirates of the Caribbean movies."

"Oh, dear." Yoongi couldn't help but chuckle at this. "That's like a solid ten to twelve hours right there."

"Thanks. That's reassuring."

Despite his blank expression, the laugh that followed Jihyun's response suggested he wasn't at all bothered by the situation. More so, it made Jimin smile. Knowing that his brother and his old friend had made up and were spending time together again - though he wouldn't talk much about it to Jimin's disappointment - made the boy feel happy and comforted.

He bet to both Yoongi and Namjoon the two would get together at some point. Rather, he hoped for it. Jimin really, really wanted to tease his brother about having a boyfriend.

"I'll see you tomorrow, I guess, Minnie."

"Okay, bye."

Yoongi waved goodbye as well as Jihyun pulled on his shoes, took up his duffel bag he had left by the kitchen table, and left the house.

For a moment, Jimin's gaze remained fixed on the door, a gentle expression upon his face that caught Yoongi's attention. He didn't have to ask; the other boy spoke up on his own.

"Ya know, I have a sneaking suspicion they're already together," he said. His smile grew. "I think Jihyun's just waiting for the right time to tell me."

"What a plot twist that would turn out to be."

"The best one."

Softly, Yoongi laughed at the dazed look on his boyfriend's face, though a bit disappointed at how long it lasted. He had to tug on the boy's sleeve to get his attention.

"Baby?"

Jimin faced him now, eyebrows raised, bottom lip sticking out somewhat now that his smile had faded. But it appeared again, along with a hint of color on his cheeks, as he made eye contact with his boyfriend. "Oh, right, sorry, uh...what did I text you about again?"

"You said we were going to bake something."

"I did??" A moment of genuine surprise. "Oh! Right, I did. Yeah, we have baking stuff."

Yoongi watched fondly as Jimin made his way over to the kitchen cabinets to pull down a cook book which he then showed to the other boy.

"You can pick something," he said and stood back. "Anything you want. My mom went shopping before she and Dad left for their trip so we've got lots of ingredients and things. Everything we should need. Except I think one of the recipes in there calls for nutmeg and I'm allergic..."

"You have allergies??" Yoongi opened his eyes wide and concerned.

"Just nutmeg!" Jimin blurted, so as to shoot down that concern before it could grow. "I know, it's weird, but-"

"No, it's not weird, it's just you never mentioned."

"Never came up in conversation."

"Well, now I know."

With that, Yoongi flipped open the recipe book and began scanning not only the pictures and dessert titles, but the ingredients as well. And all the while Jimin stood by, finding the boy's deep concentration a bit too amusing.

"Have you picked one?"

"Why don't you pick one?"

"I don't care what we make."

"Well, neither do I."

The two of them sighed almost in unison. It took some time, but eventually they came to the decision to make a simple chocolate cake together, because it seemed to both the most difficult to screw up.

Well, it would have been simple. But Yoongi had already had in mind before coming here that he wanted to make this as fun as possible for the both of them, even if it meant screwing up the entire process just for the sake of making Jimin laugh.

Jimin, on the other hand, wanted this to go well. However deep down it wasn't his biggest concern that the end result of their baking session was award-winning. He just wanted to spend time with Yoongi, and this seemed like an easy enough date idea to take advantage of while his mother wasn't around to scold him for wrecking the kitchen - not that she was typically the strict type, but she did care an awful lot about the state of this particular part of the house.

"Flour in the bowl."

"Which one is flour?"

"The one right in front of you."

"How much flour?"

"Three cups."

"The whole bag?"

"No, three—Yoongi, that's way too much!"

He slapped his hand over his own mouth, suddenly recalling his younger sister was asleep at this hour.

"Gotta keep it down," he whispered. Yoongi let out a giggle.

"What's next, Buddy Valestro?"

"Uhhh, water. I'll get it."

"I'll add the chocolate chips."

"No, not yet—.......you already added them."

"Two cups. What's next?"

"The water, I already said that."

Jimin gave Yoongi a little push, frowning as he carefully poured in a cup of water to the mixing bowl, then began stirring it. He then felt Yoongi's arms wrap around his waist. Heat rose in his cheeks but in an attempt to keep his focus, Jimin pretended to be unaffected.

"What's next?"

"Milk's recommended, if you would be so kind as to grab that from the fridge."

"No, I wanna stir the bowl."

"Fine, here."

Again, he pretended as though the boy's actions annoyed him, when in reality, on the inside Jimin swooned at the cute, random expressions Yoongi was pulling right now. He seemed happy. His head moving from side to side as little hums escaped his mouth. Jimin handed him the mixing spoon. Accepting it gratefully, Yoongi soon started stirring the bowl vigorously, laughing in an odd way at the realization that yes, he had definitely dumped way too many chocolate chips in here.

It made Jimin's heart flutter every time. Yoongi's laughter. But especially this kind, the silly, childish nature of it that the other couldn't help but adore.

He retrieved the milk from the fridge and poured some into the bowl.

"Not gonna measure it?"

Jimin just sighed. "What's the point of measuring?"

"That's the spirit. Can we add more chocolate chips?"

"No."

"Please?"

Those puppy eyes. The pouty lips. Jimin sighed, looking away. "Fine, but we're melting them first."

"Yay."

So he took down a glass bowl into which Yoongi happily poured more chocolate chips, then placed in the microwave long enough to allow melting.

"We're missing something-"

"If you say—"
"Chocolate chips."
"—I'll kiss you."

Yoongi giggled again, not having expected this would be the threat, but certainly not complaining, either. A smile on his face, he removed the bowl of melted chocolate from the microwave, dipped his finger in, then tasted it before humming happily in approval. His gaze shifted towards Jimin who watched him with the tenderest gaze. And he puckered his lips at the pink-haired boy, expecting a kiss as Jimin had said, and he got one, but on the cheek.

Oddly enough, this made him more shy.

"You got me," he muttered. "And just for that-"

"We're adding butter now."

"Chocolate chips."

"Butter."

"Chocolate chips."

Yoongi dipped his thumb in the melted chocolate now, then pressed it against Jimin's lips. Evidently, he found himself quite amusing, and proceeded to laugh once again at his own actions, whereas Jimin only stared.

He stared until Yoongi blushed noticeably, and right after tried to distract himself by returning his attention back to the mixing bowl.

The other boy, instead, dipped his own thumb into the chocolate and mimicked his boyfriend's action, turning him around so that he could press it against his lips. And Yoongi laughed to hide his embarrassment. It didn't help that Jimin didn't stop there, but rather placed his hand under Yoongi's chin and stepped forward until the boy's back hit the refrigerator.

It wasn't like him to initiate things like this. That's why it caught Yoongi even more off guard. Nervously, he stuck out his tongue to clean off the chocolate.

Next thing he knew Jimin was kissing him. His own lips, stained with the sweet substance, colliding with Yoongi's, where the same taste lingered.

Caught in the moment, Jimin slipped his tongue into his boyfriend's mouth and deepened the kiss, the two exchanging their own warm breaths. Yoongi's hands trembled. Jimin had their chests pressed together at this point, one hand playing with the other's hair, one hand wrapped around Yoongi's waist. He broke the kiss for a moment only to drop his lips down to the boy's neck, which he ran gently across his collarbone before leaving a trail of kisses up the side of Yoongi's neck and up to his ear. Jimin then began to nibble at it playfully, not realizing how utterly gone Yoongi was at this point.

The mint-haired boy could feel his own legs shaking. They had become putty by now, he was certain. And every inch of his skin felt warm, tingly, but in the least uncomfortable way possible. But it still messed with his head. He swore he would melt from this, from Jimin's unexplained burst of confidence and affection, from these soft, beautiful lips now biting gently at his ear.

This side of Jimin.

He really liked this side of Jimin.

Yoongi lost his breath and couldn't find it again until all of a sudden, in the near distance, a door shut.

Jimin threw his head back. Some sort of alarm flooded his eyes as he lay eyes on Yoongi's flushed face, and that realization, of what he just did, struck him upside the head like a blunt instrument and hurled him into a fit of embarrassment.

He darted out of the kitchen and up the stairs. Seconds later, Jimin's little sister, Eunjin poked her head around the banister. Her pajamas matched her brother's.

"Oh, Yoongi." She gave a soft smile and stepped into the kitchen. "I didn't know you were gonna be here. Why'd...Jiminie go upstairs?"

"Tired, probably," the mint-haired boy chuckled, rubbing his cheeks in hopes it would make the blush disappear. Eunjin nodded in understanding before peering at the several bowls on the counter.

"Were you guys baking?"

"Yeah. Chocolate cake." Yoongi smiled. He felt the blush already coming back - not that it had fully left to begin with. "We'll, uh...take care of the mess soon, I'm just gonna go check on Jimin."

"Let him know I'm gonna want some of the cake when you guys are done."

"Will do."

With that, Yoongi quickly ducked out of the kitchen and hurried up the stairs, soon to give a gentle knock on Jimin's bedroom door.

There was a somewhat distressed groan on the other side.

"Go away."

Yoongi couldn't help but laugh out loud at the boy. Did he feel bad? Maybe a little. "Go away?? You invited me here."

"Hmmmm."

"Jimin, get your hand off the doorknob and let me in, okay?"

"Don't want to."

"We didn't even finish making the chocolate cake..."

"That can wait."

"Jimin, c'mon, please—"

He stopped mid-sentence upon registering Jimin had released his grip on the doorknob. Yoongi waited a moment. Then he pushed open the door.

By this point Jimin had already flung himself on the bed and burrowed his face in his pillows.

Just the sight melted Yoongi's heart almost as much as that kiss had.

"Jimin..."

Biting back the urge to laugh, the mint-haired boy sat down on the edge of Jimin's bed.

"I'm embarrassed," he said outright. His words were muffled due to the pillows but Yoongi heard them loud and clear.

"Jimin, it's okay, just get your head up, okay?"

He did as he was asked, reluctantly, lifting his head to reveal all his facial features scrunched up, his cheeks and ears beet red, and tears threatening to spill over his eyelids.

That was all it took for Yoongi's heart to burst. "Oh, Jimin, baby boy, what's with the tears??"

"Already said," the other muttered, shrinking into himself and into Yoongi's touch as his boyfriend attempted to dry his eyes with his own sweater. "Embarrassed. I don't know why I did that, I'm sorry, I just wanted to kiss you-"

"Don't apologize, baby boy."

He caressed Jimin's cheek in a soft, tender motion. This only caused the boy to lose even more of his composure.

"Are we gonna go finish baking?" Yoongi asked with a warm smile. Jimin shook his head.

"No, I have a fever."

"You don't have a fever."

"Yoongi, I'm so sorry-"

"Quit apologizing or I'll tell you how I really felt about it."

"...was it too much?"

"No," Yoongi replied, his smile growing as Jimin's sheepish gaze finally met his. "You had me in the palm of your hand and I was ready to collapse."

"T-that means it was too much, I got outta hand-"

"Jimin, I meant that in the best way."

"No..."

"No, really. I quite like you taking control like that."

Jimin responded by re-burying his face into his pillows. And Yoongi smiled big and wide, leaning over to press a kiss to the back of Jimin's head.

"Love you, too, baby boy."
