[ Chapter Five—bad girl ]
"Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when they come for you?!" My voice rebounded around the cell in a surprisingly not-too-terrible tone of the song.
I won't lie, while singing was not exactly a passion of mine, karaoke was. Karaoke was something that was literally life and if I was being honest, I might actually like karaoke more than weed. Now that was saying something.
It all started at a young age with (guess who) Bella. My older cousin, while she was never than much of a fan of karaoke, when she did it with me it like she was a completely different person. Rather than the skinny awkward teen she had been, in my eyes during our karaoke nights, she was a badass rockstar with me by her side.
It was because of this that I was able to carry a tune.
As I sang in a rocker tone of voice, I scratched my wolf nails along the concrete floor. The cell wasn't big at all, a small crappy bed on the side, a toilet and sink in the corner, and that was it. The window was heavily barred, so much so that was it daylight outside I assumed light would not even be able to get in.
Though I was unable to change into my full wolf-form outside of the full moon, as I said before I was able to do this freaky thing where I could half-transform as I so wished. Essentially, my face turned all pointy and wolfish, hair grew all over my body, my nails turned to claws, my teeth turned into incisors, and my overall body grew an immense amount of muscle which generally caused my clothes to rip.
I had only done it once and that was only because Drake and I were testing out whether I was capable of changing into the huge monstrous beast of a wolf outside of the full moon. It had been just after my first full moon when it happened.
Drake laughed so hard he actually began wheezing, while I only freaked out at how beastly and ugly I looked. So much for turning my human form hotter if I only got to look like a hairy body-builder at other times.
Eventually, after Drake stopped laughing and decided to help me, I was able to change back into my human form. Since that day I would not dare to change back into that, it was scarring and traumatic. Though I will admit it made my already flawless senses peerless while in that form.
I had a feeling that had Patrick-John proved to be more of a challenge, I would have shifted to that form.
The cop on duty to watch me and the one other man—who was sleeping—in the cells was nose-deep in his phone, which I assumed was playing Netflix. He paid me zero no attention, even as I was c̶o̶m̶p̶l̶a̶i̶n̶i̶n̶g̶ talking to him earlier, he simply ignored me.
Giving up on interacting with the cop on duty, I opted to change just my nails into the werewolf claws and file them against the floor. Over the months of being a wolf, while I hated changing into the half-person half-wolf creature, I had learned to isolate certain parts of my body to change such as my claws or teeth or even eyes.
However, half the time my eyes changed color without my knowledge.
I groaned, throwing my head back as my stomach let out an hungered growl. I was fucking starving and I was half tempted to break the bars of the cell and escape just so I could go get food.
It had never happened before, but I was willing to bet should I not eat anything soon then my "inner-wolf" would come out forcing me to transform so I could "hunt", A.K.A go eat wild animals in the forest.
Absolutely disgusting, the only time I ever "hunted" was during a full moon and my human conscious was not in control. When it was my animalistic side in control, it made me prey on weaker animals either for fun or because I was genuinely hungry.
The only way I even knew that was because of the fact that oftentimes I awoke the next morning of the full moon naked covered in blood surrounded by animal carcasses with a disgustingly full feeling in my belly.
The only question was if my inner-wolf now, would it cause me to shift into the monstrous but cool wolf as Drake called it, or the freaky hairy body-builder side of myself? I desperately hoped it was the cool wolf.
"Yo!" I finally slammed my hand on the ground, my loud tone causing the cop to actually acknowledge me, "can I please have something to eat? I know you have food somewhere. Don't all you cops sit on your thumbs eating donuts or something anyway?"
It looks could kill I would be six-feet under.
"You want to be charged for disrespecting official authority too?"
"You want to be charged with starving an inmate?" I sarcastically bit back.
The cop scoffed rolling his eyes, "you're not starving and you are not considered an inmate either, don't be stupid. Now shut up!"
Pulling my lips back in a snarl, I shook my head looking down. "Fucking boomers," I mumbled so he could not hear me, effectively giving myself a new idea.
My eyes lit up and I was quickly transforming my claws back into normal-looking plain nails. Standing from the ground, I dusted off my rear knowing the concrete was rather dirty. Walking so I was inches away from the bars, I kept my eyes locked onto the cop who was back to staring at his phone.
I was right, he was watching some boring-ass show for old people on Netflix.
"Old ladies suck," I shouted causing the cop to snap his head up facing me, "okay boomer!"
Seconds passed by and in minutes, the cop was banging his head on his desk as I continuously sang the "Okay Boomer," song at the top of my lungs doing TikTok dances at the same time. Fine, I'll admit that I may have memorized the entirety of the "Okay Boomer" song, but it was bound to happen with how big it was and still is on TikTok.
"You ignorant hippie-youngin girl!" The cop screamed over my singing, but I simply continued on, smirking at him.
"It's funny, you think I respect your opinion when your hairline looks that disrespectful. YOU'RE OLD AND RACIST, ALL ABOUT THAT FAKENESS—!"
"What in the hell is going on here?!" The grumpy cop who had taken me from Officer Walker barged into the cell block with three particular people behind him.
Pale skin. Golden eyes. Immaculate beauty. Bella, Edward, and who I remembered to be Carlisle Cullen followed after the grumpy cop. Alike to my cousin and Edward, Carlisle had not aged a day since I last saw him all those years ago at the wedding.
He still appeared to be in his early twenties and yet, if I was correct, his cover was that he was in his thirties. While he looked entirely mature, I still found it incredibly hard to believe this forever youthful man was trying to pull off being in his thirties.
"Bella! Oh, thank god!" I stopped singing (s̶c̶r̶e̶a̶m̶i̶n̶g̶), moving toward the bars of the cell and leaning against them dramatically. "Get me out, I don't belong here!"
The cop who was on guard was glaring at me, along with the other grumpy cop who had just led my cousin in. The grumpy cop nodded toward the cop on guard who breathed a sigh of relief before quickly walking to the cell and unlocking the door.
As the cell door opened, I immediately walked out of it casually waving goodbye to the room inside.
"Goodbye cell, it was nice meeting you," I hummed, side-stepping the glaring cops and waltzing to greet my cousin.
"Dude," Bella groaned, both of us engulfing each other in a hug, "what were you thinking?"
Despite Bella being cold as hell, the hug itself was one of those hugs that you never wanted to let go from. I was four the last time I physically saw Bella, the last time I spoke to her was when I was nine or so. However, it still felt like we were closer than sisters. Even after fourteen years, the bond that had always been between both of us was still as strong as ever.
"I was thinking we could party," I said with a playful smile as Bella and I pulled apart.
From the corner of my eye, I could vaguely see Carlisle's eyes go wide with a slightly faint expression on his face while Edward was biting back snickers.
Bella rolled her eyes but smiled. "Vampires can't do that," she whispered so the cops could not hear.
"Ooh, that has to be terrible," I cringed.
"You get used to it," Edward spoke up causing me to turn to the bronze-haired vampire who now stood next to Bella.
Edward did not look older than eighteen and his outfit screamed that of the usual 2010's teen trash look. Dark wash hoodie, equally as dark joggers, and a pair of white Nike sneakers, not to mention he was wearing a pair of circular-framed glasses but I had a feeling he did not actually need them.
All in all, while he looked like the average senior in high school, he also did not look like a teenager at all. His eyes spoke words of being around much longer than his body physically showed, and even though the outfit looked casual, it also came across as extremely expensive. And, of course, no teenager could possess the unnatural beauty the Cullens did.
"Aye, Edward!" Edward's eyes widened in surprise from behind his glasses as I pulled him into a strong hug.
He, alike to Bella was extremely chilly, but the hug was nice. Not nearly as sweet and memorable as it had been with Bella, but simply nice, as though I was hugging a brother. Both of us were extremely strong, him with his vampire strength and me with my werewolf strength, so it was nice that we didn't need to be extremely gentle with each other.
I, for one, was used to needing to be very careful when I hugged people like my parents or Drake, even when I was drunk with Ryan Denmark, though I didn't really remember my few times with him, I vaguely remembered need to be careful.
With Bella and Edward though, hugging them was natural and I did not need to be careful.
"What's the deal with the glasses?" I rose a brow as we pulled away, Edward shrugging while Bella scoffed a laugh.
"He likes the style," Bella explained for me just as Carlisle tapped my shoulder causing me to whirl around.
Pulling him into an equally as strong hug—much to his surprise—I greeted him. Carlisle was young, yet he wore a sweater vest with a red necktie, slacks held up by a leather belt (I had a feeling it was real leather), and shiny cherry-colored loafers. Basically, this man with eternal youth was dressed as though he was some rich grandfather.
Carlisle pulled it off though—if anything his style added to his infinite good looks. Honestly, he was probably what females who were looking for a "daddy" envisioned.
As we let go, I looked him up and down once more. Oh yeah, for sure daddy material.
Edward laughed, looking in the other direction as though he had just seen something hilarious. He was quick to get himself together as he saw me and the two cops throwing him odd looks.
"Young lady, your uncle here has paid your bail, you're all free to leave," the cop nodded toward Carlisle causing me to look at the blond-haired vampire with a raised brow.
"Thank you, Carlisle," I said as we walked out of the cellblock and into the bleak waiting room before leaving, "I can pay you back now, how much was it again and do you take Venmo?"
The night sky was extremely starry, it was absolutely beautiful. In northern Arizona at university, this was exactly how the sky looked as well; however, in Mesa where I lived, it was too dense and populated of an area for you to be able to see many stars.
All of them scoffed, especially Carlisle who shook his head with a gleam in his kind golden eyes. "No, I am more than capable of paying for your bail,"
"But—"
"No buts, you will not pay me back," Carlisle said in a firm tone, all of us stopping outside the blue Tesla I had seen at the airport.
The parking lot was empty other than two cop cars with no one inside and this Tesla.
"Alright, what about the plane ticket?"
"Absolutely not, and we will be paying for your ticket back home at the end of summer as well," Carlisle explained causing my mouth to drop.
Now, most of the time I may have had no manners whatsoever, but even I knew that them paying for two plane tickets (probably first-class too) and my bail was going too far for my lack of manners. If Mom knew what happened she would hit me over the head and yell at me until I was seeing stars.
"Thank you," I said sheepishly, unsure of what else to say to their act of kindness.
"You're family, cuz," Bella teased as Edward opened the back door for her and me to get in the Tesla.
It was extremely sleek inside, nicer than any car I had ever been in. The leather was a warm tan color and just between the driver's and passenger's seat was a large tablet connected to the car. Bella got in first, scooting to the other side making room for me to get in.
Hopping in after her, I was about to close the door but Edward beat me to it closing it for me. He flashed me a perfect smile before him and Carlisle got in the car themselves, Carlisle taking to driving and Edward sitting on the passenger's side.
"Here's your phone, by the way, the rest of your stuff is in back," Bella handed me my yellow iPhone XR.
I eagerly took it, thanking her and sighing in relief at the fact that my stuff was safe and sound.
"Did they let me keep the weed?"
Bella rolled her eyes before answering, "no, they confiscated that and your bottle of Tequila. You're lucky they only charged you for traveling with the weed!"
"Man," I snapped my fingers in annoyance, "so both of them are gone, that sucks ass," Edward snickered at my comment.
"I also threw your Juul away," Carlisle mentioned. "Can you even get high as a werewolf?"
I did not mind as I never used my Juul anymore and it wasn't like it did anything as I was now a werewolf.
"Yeah, the effects of weed are the same as it is, but things like alcohol and medications I need much higher dosages to feel the effects," I explained while Carlisle looked extremely interested.
"Remarkable, perhaps the fact that marijuana affects you has something to do with it being a more natural substance versus things like medication and alcohol," Carlisle sounded extremely interested as if the question was something worth pondering on.
Nodding my head, I opened my phone checking to see if I had missed anything. Luckily, I didn't miss more than a text from Drake asking what I was doing.
Typing quickly, I briefed Drake on what happened, needed to force myself to tell him he was right. Drake's reply came quick which was nothing more than some laughing emoji's along with the statement of "I told you so, bitch!"
Scoffing silently, I replied with a short "fuck off" before casually looking through Snapchat. The only interesting thing on there was my old college roommate's story, which had a picture of her and her boyfriend on the beach in California.
I cringed wondering why she was still with him when she cheated so much over the course of university.
"What are you listening to?" I furrowed my brows, looking up from my phone as the sound of some classical music flowed through the car.
Bella, Edward, and Carlisle looked perfectly content with the song. Bella turned to me with raised brows as Edward easily answered.
"What? Don't you like Beethoven?"
Hearing it now, it reminded me of those old classical songs I would occasionally need to dance to when I was in dance (ballet specifically). Old songs such as this were the exact reason I rarely did ballet and stuck to more modern forms of dance.
"How old are you? C 'mon, turn on some real bops," Bella's shoulders shook with silent laughter.
"For one, Carlisle is three-hundred something and I'm over a hundred. Two, classical is the oldest form of modern music..." Edward's voice was droning.
Boring.
"It's not boring,"
Wait, what? Did I say that out loud?
"No, you didn't,"
"What the hell, Edward?" I reeled back as Carlisle looked at me through the rearview window.
He was driving quick and yet I had never felt safer in a car. The car itself stayed perfectly straight as trees flew by.
"Edward, don't scare her." Carlisle chided softly. "Don't be alarmed, Jaclyn," I hated the sound of my full name, and yet somehow coming from Carlisle it sounded perfect, "vampires sometimes have... gifts if you will. Gifts that come in the form of unique abilities outside the normal standards of a vampire, Edward can read minds," he explained, his tone staying in the lull of a peaceful hum.
"Woah, really?" I looked to my cousin's husband with wide eyes, Edward smirking in reply. "Tell me what I'm thinking right now,"
What to think about, what to think about...
"You're thinking of something to think about..."
Dang, that's so cool. Wow, I really am starving, how nice would a steak be? Is that deer I smell coming from the forest? It would taste so good if I hunted it and sunk my teeth in the flesh... Ew, gross, stop thinking about that! No, bad...
"You're hungry, don't worry Esme and Nessie prepared food for you at home. I take it becoming a werewolf increased your hunger for meat?"
Carlisle rose his brows in interest, Bella looking curious as well. "Yeah," I answered plainly, my thoughts shifting.
Thank god, food at the Cullen's place. Good thing I'm not high, weed would probably give me the munchies and increase my hunger by a thousand...
"Now, you're thinking of weed, now of university... Ryan Denmark? Oh, gross, stop thinking of Ryan Denmark naked!" Edward exclaimed dramatically while I snickered at Bella's horrified expression.
"Sorry, anyway, let's change this trash classical music. Up for some karaoke Bella?" I looked to my cousin who gave a shy smile.
"Oh God, don't remind me of those days,"
"Those days were amazing Bella!" I smiled.
"You did karaoke?" Edward looked at his wife in surprise and I immediately thought of my multiple memories of being a child with Bella who sang loudly with me.
Edward laughed and Bella glared when she realized what was happening. "Stop showing him those memories," Bella crossed her arms as Carlisle let out a breathless laugh.
"Perhaps you should show us these skills of yours, Bella," Carlisle teased before changing the music from classical and turning on the station.
"I'm a sucker for you, say the word and I'll go anywhere blindly..." the voice of the Jonas Brothers came from the speakers of the luxurious car.
"Oh yeah, this is the move," I nodded my head, resting my head on Bella's cold hard shoulder, but I did not mind in the slightest.
It was actually a nice temperature change seeing as I was always hot to the touch.
"You're hot, are you running a fever?" Bella said in concern, moving her hand so it was on my head.
Carlisle looked back in concern.
"No, since I've been a werewolf my average temperature is just over a hundred,"
"Just like Jake," Bella muttered causing me to quirk a brow.
"Who's Jake?"
"Someone you'll meet soon," Bella assured.
"Alright, so wait, Edward can read minds, can you two do anything?" Carlisle took a turn off the main road, the tires squealing as they came in contact with an older bumpier road that obviously was not used very often.
"Uhm," Bella scratched her head, golden eyes flickering in thought, "well, Carlisle's extremely kind?"
I snorted along with Edward while Carlisle rose a brow.
"Really? Your power is being... kind?" I looked to Carlisle with furrowed brows.
"It is not necessarily a gift more so a personality trait." Carlisle explained, "Rather, Bella herself has the gift of blocking out all other mentally acclimated vampiric gifts."
"Oh, sweet, so Edward can't read your mind?"
"Nope," Bella smirked, "but, it's not only us. Alice, you remember her?"
Vaguely. A blurry outline of a short girl with dark pixie-styled hair came to mind.
"She was the one who said I would be staying all summer, right?" On the phone call, a good majority of the Cullens had started to talk, I was not able to keep count of who exactly was speaking and who was saying what, therefore names and faces of the family were still slightly foreign.
"Yeah, that's Alice. Well, she has visions of the future. Jasper," a face would not pop up in mind when thinking of Jasper, "he has the power to manipulate and change emotions. Renesmee, our daughter," Renesmee was the one who wanted to go to the beach with me, "she can project her thoughts to other people."
"Interesting, so who all lives in the house again?"
"Obviously us three, then there is Esme, Alice, Jasper, Rosalie, Emmett, Renesmee, and Jacob," Bella explained, Carlisle piping up after she said the names.
"Don't forget Seth and Leah come during the winter months," I did not who Seth and Leah were, but I didn't bother asking.
"Seth and Leah are good friends of ours," Edward explained sensing my confused thoughts.
"Hmm, wow so that's ten people not including Seth and Leah, you guys must have a pretty full house," I imagined they must have been stuck sharing some rooms and family nights in other rooms were probably crowded.
Edward smirked looking at me, the car suddenly started driving up an incline, the tarmac turning into dirt causing the car to give small shaky shudders as it drove. "I wouldn't say the house is full exactly,"
What the hell does that mean?
"You'll see," Edward answered my thoughts making me scowl.
I really don't like this whole mind-reading thing, I literally have no privacy.
"Okay, Forks or Fort Fairfield? Which do you guys like better?"
"Forks," they all answered in sync.
"Everyone else in the family agrees..."
"Except Rosalie," Edward piped causing Bella to shrug, "Rosalie likes Fort Fairfield way better, I can only imagine why," Edward said the last part dryly.
"Holy shit," I muttered as the car pulled the hill, the trees thinning out until all that was visible was a huge mansion surrounded by a golden gate with the letter C encrypted in the center.
"Jaclyn," even Bella saying my full name was fine, "welcome to the Cullen family manor."
