(Name) picked up her clipboard , and sauntered towards the bed where elderly Mrs. Suzuki stayed at .
" Suzuki-san , it's best for you to avoid spontaneous movements , or any activity that puts a lot of strain on your body . I'll make it harder for you to heal ," she advised gently , a concerned look flashing in her clear eyes.
Mrs. Suzuki gave her a toothy grin , and nodded. (Name) waved curtly at the old woman as she slipped out of the room , for she had to monitor the other patients.
(Name) became a nurse two years ago , after she graduated from a prestigious medical school in Konoha. From a young age , she greatly adored the idea of being able to help and care for people , in other words , become their aid , hence why she chose the profession.
The hallway was silent , except for her own composed footsteps. She was about to enter another room , the echoing of rapid footsteps and a shout halted her actions.
" (Surname)-san !"
I turned around to see my working colleague , Himari who was calling out for me.
" (Surname-san) ! The hospital director wants to see you ! He said something about the Kazekage or something like that ," Himari said.
I frowned. Why does the hospital director wants to meet me? And why is the Kazekage related to this?
" He also said he wants to meet you now ," she pressed.
I nodded. " Thanks Himari ," I said as I started to walk towards towards the office of Suna's hospital director.
I hope I didn't do anything wrong.
' KNOCK KNOCK '
The sound of my fingers against the oak door synchronised along with my heartbeat. Am I going to get fired? I couldn't help but wonder.
" Come in ," a raspy voice echoed from
the inside.
I held the door handle and pulled it , the door opening with a slight click.
The door opened to reveal the elderly hospital director , Lady Chiyo and the fourth Kazekage , Rasa.
" Ah yes , (Surname-san). We've been waiting for you ," Lady Chiyo said.
I bowed at the Kazekage and Lady Chiyo.
" Is there anything I can help with ?" I asked.
The Kazekage observed me , and a smug smile appeared on his face - as if he is satisfied.
" (Surname-san) , I'd like to hire you as a personal nurse for my youngest son , Gaara ," he spoke.
Personal nurse?
" You've demonstrated exceptional service , and I believe the Kazekage's son deserves the best , so I summoned you here ," Lady Chiyo said.
" Pardon , but why does your son require my services , Kazekage-sama? Does he suffer from .. A disease? " I asked , lining my words carefully.
I never knew the Kazekage had a third child. I have only heard about Temari and Kankurou , the most popular kids in Suna.
" He was born premature , and suffers from congenital heart disease. Gaara is confined to a wheelchair as a result , and he is also.. Depressed ," the Kazekage confessed.
I blinked. Gaara led a dreadful life. The Kazekage didn't describe that , but somehow I just knew.
" I'll accept your offer ," I blurted. I wanted to change Gaara's life , even though by a tiny bit. I wanted to drag him out from his depression.
The Kazekage smiled at me. " You will be staying at the Kazekage mansion . It'll be easier for you to monitor him , " he spoke.
I nodded.
" We can leave now ," the Kazekage said as he rose up from the armchair he had been sitting on previously.
" We?" I asked in confusion.
The Kazekage eyed me sceptically.
" You're moving in today ," he said.
" But .. What about my stuff?" I spoke.
" Those can be provided . Now will you please follow me ?" he said.
I nodded , trying to hide my fluster.
He walked into the hallway , and I tagged behind him.
Who knew my life could change in such small time?
The Kazekage motioned me to enter his car - a limousine.
I sweat dropped.
Is it really necessary to ride a limousine to the hospital?
[ Time skip ]
I stared at the large Kazekage's mansion.
This will be my home from now on , till who knows.
The mansion is situated in a rather upscale part of Sunagakure , while my own apartment is at the low class part .
I sighed.
" Come . You still haven't met Gaara ," the Kazekage said. " Yashamaru will take you to see him ," he spoke as he motioned to a man to his side.
Yashamaru had a bright contagious smile plastered on his face.
But anyone could see that it was fake.
Just to polite though , I smiled back.
He led me through four flights of staircases. Luckily I'm used to the stairs at the hospital , or I would've been gasping for breath by now.
Yashamaru motioned me to a room at the end of the hallway.
It looked so sullen and distant.
" That's Gaara's room ," he said.
I nodded at him.
I went towards the mahogany door and knocked it lightly. My footsteps were rather unheard as I walked on the carpeted floor.
There was no reply. Perhaps he's asleep?
I continued to enter the room.
A boy around my age , with bright scarlet hair and sea foam eyes stared back.
His lower half was concealed by the bed though.
" Umm.. Are you Gaara? " I asked.
" Who are you? Did my father send you?" he asked in an angsty tone. Confirmed. This boy is Gaara.
" Yes.. Well , he didn't send me to be precise , he hired me to take care of you ," I said sheepishly.
" I don't need someone to take care of me. I'm not a kid ," he retorted.
" But Gaara.. I'm here to help-" . I was cut off by Gaara's remark.
" I don't need your sympathy!" he yelled. I flinched slightly. Suddenly Gaara started to cough . Hard.
I searched the room for some water , which could relieve him a bit.
My eyes landed on a water dispenser. I grabbed a cup and turned the spile on. Water filled the cup.
When the cup was full , I walked over to Gaara , who was still coughing. I could see that he was sitting on a wheelchair.
" Here ," I murmured and I held the cup close to his lips.
Gaara tried to reject and push my hand away , but he is proven too weak to do that.
He surrendered and gulped the water from the cup. " Thank you ," Gaara said.
I smiled at him.
" I told you. I'm here to help ,".
He stared at me. I could see that his eyes have softened a bit. Just a bit.
" What's your name? Don't misunderstand anything , since you'll be here till .. Who knows , I figured at least I should know your name ," Gaara said.
" (Surname). (Name) (Surname), " I spoke.
He nodded. I examined him closely. Gaara's breathing was rapid , and the tips of his fingers and his lips had a blue tint. He also seemed tired.
" Perhaps you should rest. It's around dinner time . I'll go get you a meal ," I said.
" Hm," he murmured.
I pushed his wheelchair closer to the bed and helped him to get onto the bed . Even the slightest movements made Gaara exhausted.
I placed the duvet up to his chest as I fixed his position on the pillow , just to make sure he felt comfortable.
My eyes fell onto a pair of oxygen masks. A large oxygen tank was also situated by the left side of the bed.
" Do you.. Have trouble breathing sometimes ?" I asked softly.
Gaara nodded. I lowered my eyes. Poor Gaara.
Suddenly , a knock was heard by the door.
I quickly went to answer it. It was Yashamaru.
" The Kazekage told me to show you to your room. And all your stuff and belongings have been taken care of. Your room is there ," he said.
" Ah.." I murmured as I stared at the door of my room. It was right next to Gaara's.
I opened the door , and I saw all my belongings placed in numerous boxes.
" Thank you ," I said. " Ah yes.. About Gaara. Is his food pre-prepared or do I have to cook for him? If it's the first option , I hope you can speak to the Kazekage that I prefer to prepare his meals myself ," I spoke. Well I talked a lot.
" They are prepared by the cook , but the Kazekage did say you can do as you wish ," Yashamaru said.
Well that sounded uncaring. Oh well.
And about the groceries.. " If you wonder about the cooking ingredients , they are all in the kitchen . If you need something in specific , just inform me ," he said.
I nodded as he walked away.
I went back into Gaara's room , just to make sure he was in a good condition.
When I was satisfied , I spun my heels , ready to walk away.
" When you come back , make sure you're not in that nurse uniform. I don't like it ," Gaara spoke.
Huh? I found myself tearful. " B..but?" I murmured.
" I just dislike the uniform and hospitals . I don't hate you ," he voiced.
" Right... " I said sheepishly. My face was a little red. I felt really stupid.
Oh well.
I closed the door behind me. At least he doesn't hate me. That's a good start.
