Twenty-Six
Aizawa groaned exhaustingly as he pressed a firm hand on his shoulder, the other one on his thigh. He hissed as he clenched the wounded cut over his shoulder, knowing fully well he shouldn’t have. It was a habit when he was stressed to press against his shoulders, but now it wasn’t an option, unless he was a masochist of course. Which he probably was when he agreed to teaching at UA. As much as how tired and drained he got from it, he was sure as hell glad he knew he was raising the next generation of pro heroes. Soon, the Symbol of Peace would have to retire and that would throw the whole world off of it’s balance. He didn’t need utter chaos to become a normal thing, but at this rate, it might as well be.
God, his years at UA were always getting shittier. Imagine his disappointment when he expelled the entire class last year on the first day nonetheless. Although he had a lot of free time, it wasn’t like he had anything to do with that free time. How could he? All he did was nap, which was very relaxing and peaceful, but as a pro hero, even as an underground hero, they were all used to working a lot. And he was a god damn workaholic. If he could get married to his work, he could.
“What can we do about our security? Obviously, we can hire more people, but can regular civilians really handle villains?” Hizashi questioned at the meeting the staff of UA held.
The other teacher and heroes nodded in agreement. Currently, they were discussing the intrusion from the female villain that they had dubbed her as “Obscurity,” as they knew nothing of her, other than the fact that she was a villain. It was a bad name, but it was the only one that came to mind first. Luckily the student has agreed to keep silent in this as only the police were involved, investigating along with the heroes at UA.
“No, I don’t think so. As heroes, we also cannot put regular citizens at risk of their health, especially when it is our fault. We need more than just them. I will impose the decision of hiring local pro heroes around in Musutafu for security purposes,” Nezu spoke. Seeming to be somewhat satisfied, the UA staff nodded their heads and Nezu smiled cheerfully, being able to solve one issue.
“The identity of Obscurity still remains unknown according to the police’s word. Without any DNA, we have no way of proving who she is. Even with the description of the quirk, nothing comes up. There’s not an individual listed that has a similar or has such a quirk. Unlike the files that were able to be found that had revealed the USJ attackers’ names’ Kurogiri and Shigariki Tomura, her presence was never mentioned. She could be a new member to the League of Villains, or just has been a quiet trump card that hasn’t been spoken of before,” Nezu continued.
Nemuri, Thirteen, Cemontoss, Power Loader all bobbed their heads. The others didn’t react, taking in the information emotionlessly. Hizashi and Ectoplasm seem to be contemplating something as well. Aizawa’s mind couldn’t help but flash back to Y/N.
“So what’s your quirk?” young Aizawa questioned as the two of them were scolded by their teacher after Y/N had used her quirk to make one of his bullies unconscious, again. They sat outside of the principles’ office, not caring they were also going to get chewed by the principal about using their quirk on others. Aizawa wasn’t sure why he had to go, but he’d prefer not to. Afterall, the two of them were inseparable. If it wasn’t him dragging along trouble, it was Y/N, but no matter what, one or the other would be following the other.
They were best friends. That’s what they do right?
Aizawa really never questioned it before, but he became curious when he noticed she only used her left hand. After the four or fifth time of using her quirk, he figured out that she ‘made people go to sleep’ by placing her left hand on any part of someone’s body. He wasn’t sure exactly how it worked at that time, but he was curious.
He had a quirk- his doctor said so when he was four- but he didn’t exactly know what his quirk was. Because of not knowing his quirk, right now he was thought of quirkless, and many kids bullied him. Some believed the teacher that they just couldn’t identify his quirk, so his bullying and harassment was much less than an actual pronounced quirkless child. Until something activated his own quirk, he himself would dub himself quirkless as well.
“My doctor called it ‘Pulse!’ I can make someone’s heart go really fast or slow. It’s cool right? I can make people go to sleep! Have you figured out your quirk yet,” she excitedly questioned. Aizawa smiled lightly at her enthusiasm.
‘‘Pulse,’ huh? Could be your hero name when you grow up.’
He admired the quirk, it would be very useful in heroics. She could easily knockout villains if she could get close enough. It was interesting. She could control a person’ organ. Like, an organ that actually made you stay alive? She could easily kill someone, but he knew far too well that she couldn’t bring herself to kill a spider even if it was crawling up her arm. (True story, this happened last week. Screaming and crying but refusing to kill the tiny spider, that left Aizawa confused and baffled as he stared at her judgingly. He would have just killed it if not for the fact that she refused to let him kill it. She managed to cup it in her hands and then let it go on the floor before it was stomped on by a few boys playing tag.)
“That’s a really cool quirk. I bet you’ll be able to become a hero,” he mused supportively and honestly. He wasn’t sure what his quirk was, but his mother’s quirk was the ability to paralyze someone as long as she could until she blinked, but his father could touch someone and they’re quirk would be negated for as long as that contact remained. Neither of them were pro heroes despite their handy quirks, and became regular police officers. Maybe his quirk would be similar?
Now remembering his parents, he and Y/N bonded over even more when they both had found out they lost their mothers. But that was irrelevant.
“As long as you’ll be a hero with me!” Y/N beamed brightly, nuzzling into Aizawa’s arms. Even at how young he was, he already knew he was in love. He smiled softly, placing his head over hers.
Not only did they get chewed out for Y/N using her quirk and Aizawa always provoking his bullies, but they were also yelled at for falling asleep together. But even the principal couldn’t help but smile softly as the two of them were comfortable in each other’s presence.
Aizawa shook his head, knowing fully well it would be impossible for the villain to be Y/N. The girl he’d grown to love in the many years he knew her couldn’t be a villain. Not like she could have a chance to anyways.
“Either way, she’s a dangerous individual, as she has given Eraser quite a lot of trouble. She is incredibly skilled with blades, as those are her preferred weapons and has exemplary hand-to-hand combat skills that are on par with Eraser’s. Her quirk can control life and death as well, we cannot confirm what exactly is her quirk, but we know she could control a person’s heartbeat through physical touch. She only uses her left hand, but if my theory is right, her hands control how fast or slow, or perhaps targets another attribute to the heart. If my first theory is right, she may also be able to temporarily revive people that have just died.”
This fact was alarming. The pro heroes looked at shock at such a quirk this powerful could be very helpful to the heroes’ side. What made her into a villain? He saw that question appear in everybody’s minds as their eyes widened and a few of them seemed to have wondered what it would be like for someone like her to be on their side instead of the villains’ side. He could practically hear the words of ‘Such a gifted quirk? Why become a villain when you can become a great hero?’ ringing throughout the room.
‘It’s simple,’ he thought to himself. ‘Quirks like those, could as well be considered as villainous as it sounds heroic depending on what aspect they see. I would have known.’
“So you found out that your quirk is called ‘Erasure?!’ That sounds so cool! Wow!” Y/N was the only person who said that when he shared his new found quirk to the class.
The teacher always asked how everybody’s weekend was and on Friday as if in the nighttime, he and being the bratty seven-year-old he was, had upsetted his mother over not brushing his teeth lately. Frustrated and furious, she did paralyze him using her quirk. He didn’t really understand the big deal of it, so he also was mutually pissed, his anger triggering his own quirk. When he watched her eyes widened in shock, he noticed he could move. He felt the wind running through his air despite being inside.
The two of them didn’t stay mad at each other at the end of the day.
The next morning, his mother had taken him to a quirk doctor, in which the doctor called it as ‘Erasure,’ and explained that he could ‘erase’ the quirk of one as long as it wasn’t a mutant quirk for as long as he could until he blinked. Which made an awful lot of sense. When he explained it to the class, everybody was silent, all of course his best friend. Even the teacher didn’t know what to think.
“Why would you want a quirk that took away other people’s quirk?!” one boy yelled out, which caused an entire riot in the classroom as more boys joined in to oppose him. His eyes widened, he thought he could finally be liked by others. He thought that people would stop avoiding him. He thought they’d be happy.
But when he saw Y/N’s smile and excitement and ‘ooh’ing in her eyes, he decided he didn’t need to care what others said. He didn’t need to-
But he still did.
“Yeah, that's what villains do! You’re stealing! And villains steal!”
“But I-” He tried to reason.
“Villain! Villain! We have a villain in our school!”
“Class settle down! I’m sorry Shota that you have to deal with that.” his teacher said to him as he never rushed to his seat faster in his life.
He gained a new name other than ‘quirkless loser.’
He was now the ‘Quirk stealer.’
“Perhaps she could do more than just alter and change the heart, but that is unlikely, as she’s only affected the heart in the few times we know and saw her use her quirk. Because she shows that, she has just as much power as the other two known members. It could also be that she’s not exactly a member, as she does not seem to be able to act freely on their orders. Students and Eraser have described her as being empty or figuratively ‘dead.’ Whether that means she’s a forced villain or not, it doesn't change the fact that she should be dealt with with the rest of the league as well. That could mean that they have more members under their sleeves that they’re keeping quiet. They seem to be able to convince or force villains to join their side if the hundred or so criminals that were arrested at the USJ said anything about that. That’s alarming and that means they could grow more powerful and attempt to attack Class 1-A since it’s what they seem to be targeting as of right now,” Nezu finished as he gazed at the other teachers.
Aizawa was well aware of this. She had the power to kill- in a matter of seconds mind you- in more ways than one. She was dangerous, and perhaps one of the most troubling villains ever if she wasn’t up against flashy villains. Evidently, she knew she couldn't fair and win against the No. 1 Hero in Japan which is why she ran, but any villain would do that; All Might’s strength was insufferable. It didn’t matter if she had skills, one punch would literally swipe her off of her feet.
“We don’t know the exact reason why she was there, but we assume for scouting purposes. Perhaps she was scouting for signs of All Might’s weakening state, but she wouldn’t have stayed afterwards during Aizawa’s exam. The police had suggested that they could be scouting the staff of UA, but I believe that she was scouting for the students. Which ones to target, we have no idea who they plan to target, but all we can do is prepare our students and increase our security. It could also be that they were scouting for both students and staff. Which staff to look out for that would most likely thwart their plans in successfully attacking Class 1-A. Eraser and All Might are targets for obvious reasons. We should be wary of that as well.
“None of us have leaked out any information about the exam, but the police had managed to find that our files have been hacked somehow. We are still tracking the hacker, but so far that investigation hasn’t gone anywhere without any leads. The hacker is of top skill, and it’s most likely that they had a quirk. The time of breach in the files’ security was between 7AM to 7:10 AM, an hour right before the exams started. Between that period and before the students is when she had supposedly intruded. She managed to slip past the guards placed around the school, most likely crawling up a side of a wall that was unguarded as a guard went off on a break. Using her blades like spiked claws that a person would attach on their hands. Clearly they didn’t want to use their warp gate because it would certainly be seen if they are not able to check who can see them. The League of Villains were careful with this.”
“The League of Villains definitely does like to show and flaunt themselves. First it was the USJ incident, and the release of the three Nomu’s in Hosu city, he’s adapting and learning. It’s terrifying to say the least. The USJ plan was although planned thoroughly, he hadn’t thought of everything, obviously he wasn’t planning on the panic that the USJ incident caused. Now, he’s not so focused on attacking us directly. He’s trying to draw attention, if it weren't Stain, then it would have definitely been them on the headlines, but we think that the hero killer and the villain criminal was involved with Shigaraki. Either way, he’s managed to successfully capture society’s attention, and he may be using Stain’s ideology to draw in more villains onto their side. We think that he’s more focused on attacking society’s view on heroes, starting with Stain,” Aizawa added in.
He saw the nods from the other teachers, there was an awful lot of agreement in this meeting, which usually wasn’t the case when they had these meetings, but they’ve never had a meeting with topics like this because they hadn’t needed these meetings in a while. It’s not like they knew that their first-year class was going to have a painted target on their backs this year. Most of their meetings were just about what they planned on doing with their students, maybe plan a field trip, or how to organize an event. But not a topic about villains and being in fear of them attacking their students in their own walls.
“I fear that the League of Villains have the power to utterly change society if they keep attacking us and throwing dirt. We are Japan's No.1 Hero School, a school meant to teach the next generation’s heroes. It’s meant to be the safest place, but we keep having incidents with the League of Villains and our students. They may have the chance to overthrow the hero society if they can’t be detained soon,” Snipe finished.
The ravennette glanced at the other teachers who seemed to have similar thoughts and not any other.
“The Provisional Hero License Exam is coming soon. Eraser, Vlad King, do you plan on having your first years to take the exam?” Nezu said, changing the topic.
“Always. No doubt,” Aizawa answered firmly.
No matter what, he wasn’t going to pull his students out of the exam. He always put his first years in the Exam, it just meant that they’ll be heroes sooner and they were already more advanced than any other school. He had to hold up the school’s reputation somehow, after all, he held up quite a lot. Anybody who passed the first week of his tests in his first years became successful heroes. Most heroes died two years after their debut, but all of his students he taught had surpassed that and are continuing to be successful heroes. Especially when the current number three hero had used to be his former student from the first year he had started teaching at UA.
“Yes,” the grey-haired male replied with, giving Eraser a firm nod. The two of them agreed that pushing their students to their utmost limits and nudging them towards challenges would only help strengthen them as heroes. For the past years that they’ve been working together, the two of them had matching attitudes.
“Perfect! Let’s plan the first year’s annual trip in preparation for the exam! Shortly after, we’ll discuss the Second Year’s and the Third Year’s work study!”
Aizawa trudged down the hallways carrying a folder of all the Training Camp Guides as he stopped at his homeroom’s class. He needed to announce the news about the Training Camp to his homeroom. Sliding the door open, he greeted his students.
“Once the bell rings, get in your seats.”
All of the students were already in their seats, sitting appropriately and formally, quiet without a sign of recent chattery. Great, he could start.
“Morning. Unfortunately, there are those who did not pass the final exams.”
He observed Kaminari’s, Mina’s, Sato’s, and Kirishima’s faces blanched in fear and guilt as they sighed in disappointment and sorrow. He grinned internally as he imagined their reactions soon when he would state that everybody was going. But for now, their faces of dread were satisfying. He’d have to savor that. Student tears was always his second best choice of drink after coffee after all.
“Accordingly, for the training camp in the woods… everybody’s going!” he smiled brightly, but he knew very well that his smile was most likely the fakest and most expressionless grin they’ve seen.
“A LAST MINUTE TWIST!” all four of them that presumed they weren’t able to attend yelled excitedly.
“We can go, too?!” the red haired student shouted, his eyebrows furrowed upwards and his shark smile growing by the second. Aizawa groaned to himself at such energetic enthusiasm. They couldn’t be any more quieter about the news could they?
“Really?!” Mina was at the brink of crying tears of joy. Unfortunately, he’d have to burst their bubbles a little bit. Although they were able to go, it didn’t make their punishment any less tortuous.
“Yeah. Some failed, but no one failed the written exam. In the practical, Kirishima, Kaminari, Ashido, Sato, and Sero failed.”
A wave of dread washed over Sero as he facepalmed disappointingly and muttered to himself.
“For this time’s exam, we on the villain aside made sure to leave a way for the student’s to win while watching to see how you all would take on the task at hand. If we hadn’t most of you would’ve gotten stuck before you started.”
“So when you said you were really out to crush us…” Ojiro said questioningly.
“That was to make you feel concerned. In the first place, the training camp in the woods is one to increase strength. So those who failed need it the most. They have to get stronger.” He gave out another wide grin, but the large and bright grin contrasted his tired and emotionless expression on his face. “It was a rational falsehood.”
He loved seeing his student’s cringe and flinch at that. He glanced at the Class Rep. as he started mumbling and ranting to himself again while he was shaking and clutching his hands in frustrated fists. He shot up from his seat and raised his hand straight. Although as responsible and helpful the earnest boy was, he was far too loud for his likes.
“However, since you lied to us twice, our faith in you will waver!”
The jet black haired man and the jet-engined-legged boy ignored the brownette classmate’s comment seated behind the standing male.
Whether they believed him or not, he didn’t care much. He did do it for their good after all, and they would just have to get used to it. That was how he was, he was cunning and manipulative for the right reasons. If they can’t accept his teaching style and method, they could gladly leave and take the exit. But he gave a different answer.
“That’s true. I’ll consider that,” he said. You know, like a liar. “But I wasn’t lying about everything.”
His eyes glanced back to the five students that failed the practical exams. He faintly remembered the retake exam he and the two recommended students. They had won and were able to capture him, which he was glad for. They were recommended students, recommended students suggested by pros nonetheless. He would be disappointed if they didn’t pass because they both already have the making of becoming great heroes.
“We have prepared a separate time for extra lessons for you all. Frankly, it’ll be tougher than the extra lessons you’d get if you stayed at school.”
After answering questions and passing out the guides, he let himself walk down the hallways, slouching in his infamous walking style, his hands stuffed in his pants pockets and his head tilted downwards as well as his spine slightly bent towards the ground.
‘Training Camp,’ huh?
His class desperately needed to get stronger. He didn’t know what would happen to those kiddos if those villains kept attacking them.
He’d only hope things will get brighter for them all.
A/N: Ooh~ shit is about to go down.
